During the production of a recent hidden camera hit piece on JSD Supply and “ghost guns” in Pennsylvania that was broadcast by NBC News, reporter Vaughn Hillyard and employees of the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s office appeared to violate a number of local, state and federal laws (see our stories on what took place here and here).

Today, a coalition of five gun rights organizations sent the following letter to Pennsylvania House Speaker Bryan Cutler requesting an investigation into AG Scott Shapiro’s office in connection with actions taken with and broadcast by NBC News.

They just dont get it, theres certain people and businesses that are above the law.
Send all the letters you want, the only thing that does is wear out the paper shredder

I want to make $200/hr for qwe03 from home (whatever that means???)
        Please advise!!

    • I think they do, it’s not to get him arrested but to gain publicity over the hypocrisy.

      • He’s running for Governor. Unopposed in the democrat primary. Maybe we can use this to keep him from being elected, either through legal action or through convincing the public not to vote for him if we can spread the word.

    • This is nothing new. NBC news rigged up a General Motors pickup truck to explode on their camera footage. ABC News hired a woman to work under cover in a delicatessen. And she didn’t complete her job assignment. Film footage of a dirty meat slicer was used to smear that private business. But it was her responsibility to clean the meat slicer and anything else that she used in her job.

That news report was done by the libertarian consumer reporter John Stossel. And ABC News paid a lot of money in lawyers and to the Delicatessen/grocery store company that they smeared with a false story.

Stossel would later claim he didn’t know anything about that woman being hired, by the company he worked for. ABC News.

    • You know possum, if they keep acting like they are above the law then regular folks might start thinking the law doesn’t apply to them either………

Of course there is no precedent for this. I mean, it’s not like hippies and pot heads got things changed just by ignoring the man………

It’s not like a bunch of lefty cities and states decided immigrations laws just don’t apply to them………

If only someone had already paved the civil disobedience road for us……..

    • If this gains traction and an investigation or a court case actually develops, the NRA will tag along after the leg work and heavy lifting is done. They’ve used that mode of operation several times, when their not too busy defending WLP. The 2020 Virginia pro-gun uprising and protest was a very good example. They put out a support letter near the end, no $$$ spent, and this was the state of their HQ’s.

      • The NRA is beginning to remind me of something that happened on our farm many decades ago. We had a raccoon get into our chicken house late one night. Our black and tan coon hound started raising HELL from all the commotion. My dad turned him loose and off he went after the coon. After thoroughly chewing it’s ass to pieces. Our small beagle was yapping, barking and running around in circles like He had done some great deed. That is what the NRA seems to be doing these days. As a point of reference I’ve been a Life Member of the NRA for many decades. I no longer support them financially. I do support 2 of the organizations listed above as well as state and local organizations.

        • I’m a life member also and have not supported them financially for quite a while now. I do belong to RMGO and I am looking at GOA. Your example is funny and sounds spot on!

        • Darkman.
That story reminded me of the beagle I had, she was a hunter, just had to go with us coon hunting.
Them were the days, Full Cry magazine was my bible.

    • The NRA were about carry licenses back in the day. The organization wanted to exclude the unwashed and poor from carrying a firearm along with many other FUDD moves.

Who needs them, they got us where we are today.

  2. well,,, uhhh… its about time.

    Prosecute this fool.

I want to see the FBI/ATF investigate this guy too.

    but… we shall see

    • STOP SHOUTING!!!! LEARN TO USE YOUR FRICKIN’ “CAPS” KEY!!! OR JUST GO AWAY AND LEAVE US ALONE!!!!

      • We don’t know, he could be limited in vison.

He’s far less annoying than d*cian and my obsessed, obviously brain-damaged and mentally-ill demented troll (who deserves to live in New Jersey)…

        • Below please find a complete list of everyone in the world who gives one steamy dump about Geoff’s opinion:

          1) Geoff; and
          2) Lamp (Probably, but who really cares?).

          -End of list

        • 3) Me.

Now who care about your opinion?

          1) Your momma. She told me so last night after she swallowed.

  3. Does anyone else see a bit of irony in this?

Ok, so a “hidden camera” investigation (that did not need a hidden camera ’cause nothing illegal was being dine in buying and selling the kit) to show the public how easy it was to buy and complete an 80% kit, failed to show that because: Apparently its not so easy ’cause Hillyard being unable to complete the kit had to take it to two special agents of the state attorney generals office to have the kit completed and then the special agents returned the completed gun to Hillyard.

So boys and girls, if you live in Pennsylvania, and even are from out of state, and want someone to complete your 80% kit apparently you can drop it off at the State Attorney Generals office and they will complete it and return it to you.

    🤣

    • They had to hide the camera because Eagle Gun Shows prohibits filming in their shows.

  4. There are two systems of laws in Capitalvania, one for the rich and powerful and another for the troglodyte worker slaves. If an ordinary person would have committed only 1/10 the crimes Herr Drumpf did in his 4 years of circus in office they would already have been sent to prison for life so why persecute the News Media for telling the truth and presenting an instructional video about the scourge of ghost guns on U.S. Society.

    • Troglodyte slaves huh.
Your something else, if you work your a troglodyte, if you own a gunm your a neanderthal.
Is there anything about America you like?
Used to be an old saying, “America, love it or leave it.”
      What’s your excuse?

      • Unlike you I work to civilize America and improve the working conditions of the American troglodyte worker slaves that labor under the evilness of the Capitalvanians. The big Union Victory over the evil empire of Amazonia this week is one example of a workers Socialist victory over the evil Capitalvanians.

      • He’s said it before. The countries that he says are better than America won’t let him move there. Apparently they have border controls and immigration restrictions.

        • We’d make him part of the “Pacific Solution”. An extended holiday on Nauru where he can see the white sandy beach through the razor wire. Length of stay: indefinite. Paid for by the applicant.

    • In capitalism man preys on man. In communism it is exactly the other way around.

  5. So what became of the gun? Did Hillyard take it home to NY? Did he sell it?

I hope that TTAG will follow up on this story as I’m really curious as to the outcome. As our resident marsupial implied, some people are more equal under the law than others.

    • “As our resident marsupial implied, some people are more equal under the law than others.”

I was out driving a week or so back late one night, and saw a possum that got splitched on the side of the road, and for a moment, wondered if it was one of Possum’s kinfolk… 🙂

      • All possum’s is kin. Did you stop and put a toe in its ribs to see if it was, you know, playing possum?

        • What came through the A/C vents informed me it was good and expired.

I’m confident the ants and other scavengers will take good and competent care of the remains… 🙂

  6. These lazy journalists and bureaucrats wanted a pile of confusing and arbitrary laws. They got their wishes and now they’ve fallen into their own trap of byzantine laws. Ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law. Demonstrate that accountability means something and throw the book at everyone involved.

    • I would think ignorance of the law would be a claim unavailable to a state attorney general anyway.

  7. Yeah where’s your hero’s old Walter III? Nothing will happen BTW. Virtue signaling…

  8. Bets are this ship has already sunk at the dock Torpedoed in her anchorage by “Laws for thee not me.” Same context when TV anchorIT had large capacity magazine in DC, and never was prosecuted. ATF decryed the completed packaged kits to be firearms. Thereby, firearms were sold to NY resident in PA initially, sans NICS for this illegal transaction. Did he return, cross state line with those firearms. Return across state lines with contraband firearms, induced criminal action on those firearms, and consprie to receive illegal firearms, with transport across state lines. PMF finished for another, tools/eqwuipment used not owned by machinist (probably state resources), PMF transferred by maker to other, Gun running charges, ala Fast and Furious of Holder.
Seems like a shit load of Federal and state charges. And, nary one will be prosecuted.

    • He is running for governor. If we can get this information out and make a big deal out of it it may sink his election even we never get him or anyone in his office prosecuted.

  9. Yeah, this guy should be impeached and arrested but that will never happen because the is pushing an agenda to perpetuate and increase government power.

  10. “The NRA were about carry licenses back in the day. The organization wanted to exclude the unwashed and poor from carrying a firearm along with many other FUDD moves.

Who needs them, they got us where we are today.”

They certainly did. The AWB is gone due to the sunset amendment NRA insisted on when it was going to pass no matter who stood against it. (GOA and SAF were around back then- they didn’t have much effectiveness.) We now have more types of MSR than anyone could’ve imagined in 1993.

    And AR pistols?

Or the explosion of small, but effective handguns for concealed carry, along with holsters and other intelligent methods to pack them? And many choices of effective, defensive ammo. That’s all due to the 40-some states where free citizens now boast “shall issue” concealed carry, which is fast becoming permitless carry, also thanks primarily to NRA and its state organizations.

Now, on the other hand, anyone want to put money on the results of the letter these groups offered? Think it might be directed more towards fund raising than actual prosecution?

We all know the news people broke the law, just like Mario Biaggi did years ago when he used his Congressional position to “sneak” a then new-to-American-markets “undetectable”, plastic Glock past airport screeners with a raft of reporters who just happened to be following him.

I’m betting there will be no investigation nor legal action against Shapiro, but maybe I’m a bit cynical after all these years…

    • “Or the explosion of small, but effective handguns for concealed carry,…”

A *direct* result of the 10-round magazine limit, giving us the tiny Glock 26 in 9mm, the 27 in .40, and now the Glock 29 in 10mm.

Has anyone fired the micro 10mm Glock 29? Does it suck as much as I imagine it would? 🙂

      • Well, a real man can handle it just fine. In other words, it’s not the gun for you 🖕🤡.

      • “A *direct* result of the 10-round magazine limit…”

Perhaps where you live, for me and millions of others, it was to create an effective firearm that was easily concealed, because, well, now, millions more could “legally” carry them if they wished. (And TTAG’s favorite punching bag, Marion Hammer, started it all way back.)

(I suppose you can argue the legality/2nd Amendment issue but then I wouldn’t want to have to pay your bottom feeder bills. But permitless carry is taking care off that, slowly but surely, in similar increments as when these rights were being withheld. Takes time and smart people, either way.)

        • “And AR pistols?

Or the explosion of small, but effective handguns for concealed carry, along with holsters and other intelligent methods to pack them? ”

Really? Which ones did the NRA design? Did they petition the BATFE to make rules to allow arm braces (not in response to last year’s proposed point system)? Pocket semiautos in .380 and smaller existed prior to the 1911. I concur with Geoff that the surge of subcompact full caliber pistols, led by the baby Glocks, was an unintended consequence of the 1994 Crime Bill that limited new magazines to 10 rounds. A palm sized gun now had the same caliber and capacity as full size service handgun, if you were willing to trade recoil and sight radius for better concealability. The NRA was responsible for pushing shall issue laws in the 90’s and early 2000’s, but that was before WLP decided he deserved a lavish lifestyle and started treating the NRA as his personal piggybank.

    • Craig in IA,

The National Rifle Association (including its legislative action arm) may have (probably) did a lot of good back in the 1990s to support the Second Amendment. For the last roughly 10 years, it is readily apparent that the National Rifle Association is no longer that positive force in support of the Second Amendment. Even worse, many of the internal actions of the National Rifle Association over the last roughly 10 years are utterly indefensible.

If you are still in love with the National Rifle Association, then please direct your energies to the massive clean-up that organization needs in order to be a huge force which supports the Second Amendment.

      • “If you are still in love with the National Rifle Association, then please direct your energies to the massive clean-up that organization needs in order to be a huge force which supports the Second Amendment.”

I guess it can safely be stated such is already happening.

Of course, “common sense” might also show that no one in the US is actually guilty until proven so in a court of law. Even your trying to help Leticia James in this matter isn’t having much luck other than to try to throw others under the bus, especially when you have little access to anything but hearsay “evidence”.

    • The NRA has supported every federal and most state gun control laws since at least 1934. There are articles in their own publications in support of the GCA 68. They supported the AWB 94.

In 1996 and several times later NRA supported turning PA into NJ as far as gun laws. It was the locals that stopped them. Kim Stolfer may have lost his mind and shit the bed in recent years, but before dementia set in he and FOAC did yeoman’s work here in keeping us relatively free. If it wasn’t for the doddering old bastard and his organization PA would be as bad as NJ or MD. NRA doesn’t do shit here except for showing up for the photo op when WE, NOT THEM accomplish something.

  11. “Really? Which ones did the NRA design?”

Obvious ridiculous question. But in answer to both, realistically, NRA lead the crafting of the AWB in its final form, which, again, was destined to be both passed and signed into law by those in power at the time regardless of what NRA “wanted”. GOA, Neal/Jeff Knox’s “Firearms Hardcorps”, SAF, et al only cried foul and offered nothing else.

In fact, those groups and their no-compromise manifest would’ve allowed no sunset provision to the AWB and the game would’ve been over. No ridiculous point system for defining an “assault weapon” which was worked around in days by the manufacturers at the horror of DiFi, Schumer and even Bill Clinton. No compromise = game over.

As for “shall-issue” concealed carry evolving into permitless carry: There’s no logical progression from “may-issue” to permitless carry had not “shall-issue” given absolute, provable lie to those claiming “Wild West” shootouts would result from citizens carrying firearms for their own protection. It’s also difficult to imagine shall-issue concealed carry at this point were it not for Marion Hammer’s leadership in Florida. It’s also safe to state that it never was really considered in Iowa until NRA took the lead from Aaron and his Dorrtards.

Maybe gun owners in FL should seek the same there and stop smearing Hammer as the villain- Valdez and GOA seem to be spinning their wheels just like Dorr and IGO was for years in Iowa.

    Just sayin’.
