The 7-Eleven convenience store chain offered a $100,000 reward Wednesday for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a masked gunman suspected of robbing six Southern California stores, killing two people and wounding three others.
A clerk, Matthew Hirsch, 40, was shot and killed at a Brea store and Matthew Rule, 24, was gunned down in the parking lot of a Santa Ana store during a five-hour string of holdups Monday morning.
Police in Ontario, Upland, Riverside and La Habra have said they believe 7-Eleven robberies there also are linked.
A customer was shot in the head and gravely wounded at a Riverside store and two people, one of them a clerk, were shot in La Habra but were expected to survive.
The Riverside shooting victim was identified by his family as Jason Harrell, 46. He was breathing on his own and was no longer in a coma, his brother David Makin told KNBC-TV.
“He has to keep fighting. Jason is a fighter and so we fully expect him to fight through his whole thing and win this battle,” Makin said.
Both of the La Habra victims were released from a hospital on Wednesday, KNBC-TV reported.
One victim, Russell Browning, 60, lost many of his teeth when the gunman shot him in the mouth as he sat in his car, the station reported. The bullet came out through his cheek.
Browning had picked up milk and doughnuts at the store and was heading to his job as a truck driver, his family said.
“The wrong place at the wrong time. That’s all it can go down as,” Browning told KNBC-TV as he sat in a wheelchair.
Authorities have shared images of a masked man wearing what appeared to be the same black sweatshirt with a hood over his head. The sweatshirt had white lettering with green leaves on the front.
“We are currently working with the local police to spread the news in the community” about the reward, 7-Eleven officials said in a statement. It said tipsters can anonymously contact Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS.
All the attacks took place on July 11 — or 7/11, the day when the company celebrates its anniversary.
However, investigators haven’t said whether the date may have played a significant role in the attacks.
Capture will not be a problem; conviction will be more difficult…
What is the evidence for that statement? If he’s caught and the evidence is sufficient why do you suppose that he’ll get away with it. I always thought that in America you are ‘not guilty’ until ‘guilt’ is proved beyond reasonable doubt.

Exactly what is the bloody point in stating the glaringly obvious? Yet again I find myself reminding the ill informed that Policing in a democracy depends above all on two things – the consent and co-operation of the citizens it serve’s. I seem’s to me that at time’s both are seriously lacking and it’s not just an American problem either. The American problem is that in comparison to most of the civilised world where FIREARMS do not figure large in the equation criminal behaviour very rarely results in death.
Consider this. The TOTAL number of illegal deaths in the UK per annum is around the 800/900 mark from all causes. This included knife crime, domestic violence, acts of terrorism MANSLAUGHTER where the death of a victim is not the intent, and of course GUN CRIME Interpolatiion of this to the USA and taking into consideration that the population of the USA is around four and a half to five times that of the UK this would mean a TOTAL illegal death rate in the USA of around 4000 from all causes.
These figures for the UK are within spitting distance of the European and most of the Common Wealth average figures. Surely that must be cause for concern!! Or do American’s take dubious pride in their lethal criminality as an illustration of ‘macho’ness?

Freedom is dangerous but I’d rather live with the danger than be a “subject” like you any day. I will preface that with in order to be truly free you must be able to be armed. You can cry about our freedoms all you want we don’t care.
Albert, something you may have missed. a very large percentage of violent crime in the US is restricted to a few inner city neighborhoods. If the violence resulting from the drug and gang related activities of those inner city neighborhoods is discounted from US crime stats, the US would be amongst the safest places in the world. I can give you a hint as to the demographics of who lives in those areas. The same group you seem to believe are being unfairly represented and unfairly punished in the US legal system. Of course, if you believe the media, and the more left leaning politicians, it’s because of some sort of racism, or supremacism. And, a century ago, it may have been some truth to that in parts of the country. What has caused much of the current problem is the destruction of the minority family and the idea that certain groups are not responsible for their actions, or their poor decisions. As well as semi permanent accusations by a certain group of racists who believe everything is the white man’s fault.
Lastly, laws, and how they are enforced differ from state to state here. We don’t have a national criminal justice system as is used in the UK. How prosecutors do their job in California is different from how they do their job in Iowa or Alabama. Much depends on the politics of the party in control in the separate states, or even cities. The far left has control of California and has been rather lax in both enforcement, and punishment of even violent offenders if they are from certain, protected demographics.

The reward COULD have been $102,500 if they weren’t paying his survivors their generous death benefit.
If only they didn’t ban their employees from being armed while on duty, they could have paid him for taking out the trash.
Yea, I’m curious to know what the payout for the families of the victims was, if any. Health/life insurance at these companies are a joke and if they didn’t work a certain amount of hours as a slave before it happened, they don’t have to do shit. Aint it great?

One of my children is a young adult and works at a well known national fast-food restaurant chain. Of course that restaurant chain forbids being armed for self-defense while working.
My adult child may or may not carry a concealed handgun for self-defense while working–in violation of their policy. Other employees at that particular restaurant may also be armed for self-defense–also in violation of their policy.
The point is simple: unless you face a felony rap for being armed for self-defense at your workplace, arm yourself for self-defense at your workplace.

There have been cases where 7-11 employees have been armed anyway and have ended some of these vermin. They get fired, but they live. I have even heard of people clamoring to hire them after they delete these criminals. I think that’s the only way this could end, but it’s Ca. where the criminals have the rights and the law abiding are to respect said rights.
