On Canyoneering trips, I pack an lcp and small folding knife. The weight of the wetsuit, ropes, and rappelling equipment helps me keep other gear to a minimum.
When hiking the Sierras I carried an AR-7 and a Charter Arms Bulldog.
I’m interested in that compass. I’m always misdirected.
Like everything I see. I’ve been thinking of putting together something like that myself, but haven’t gotten around to it. He be the gear, just haven’t done it. Some small changes based on where I live, but overall, yeah. At least there’s a spare mag.

Way too much weight for a hike of any length and not enough utility. Also I don’t see an IFAK.

It’s not too much weight but you could get far more utility for the weight he is packing.
Like all that’s in pack but I think should also have small knife, fire starter, backup gun, first aid kit, emergency blanket, 100ft of 1/2″ rope,hand gel type that has alot of alcohol because you can use to help start fire besides for clean up ,CD makes better signal mirror won’t brake like glass,water filter strall or water tablets ,metal cup for boiling water or cooking

What is missing depends on what type of hike it is. But any hike requiring that kind of knife would probably require other things first.
I used to be the kind of guy that would carry around a knife like that when hiking. It gets old. A smaller, lighter one works just as well for pretty much anything unless you’re planning to go around taking out sentries quietly. There’s pretty much nothing a big old knife can do that a smaller one- or a gun- can’t do better. Sure, you might be able to more easily baton wood or something but his pack doesn’t look like it’s set up for firemaking for warmth or food.

This looks like a bushcrafting setup. Which makes sense to carry a big ol’ knife. And there’s a smaller multitool (in blue) for all those folks saying this person should be carrying a smaller knife…
Truth. I usually carry 2 knives in the boonies. My belt knife is a Mora Companion and then I have a SAK with a swedish firesteel on a bootlace around my neck. Both are light and useful around a camp.

I always carry a small first aid kit. Small bottle of Iodine (cuts and water purification), Luekotape (great stuff), snack bar and lighter.
