“Russia has shown a more than neighborly interest in Russian-speaking airsoft players, as well as members of martial arts and shooting clubs, in Latvia and Estonia, two countries with large Russian-speaking minorities. Russian trainers with military connections — even special forces connections — have joined some clubs in those countries as trainers, teaching what one observer described as ‘small unit tactics.'” – Russia finds young men who love guns — and grooms them [via washingtonpost.com]

    • Read between the lines…. This exactly what you DON’T want our Government doing. See Ukraine for results.

      • So will New Brunswick be the Canadian Crimea, then? We shall call it the the Donutsk People’s Republic and seize all the Tim Hortons as property of our new state.

      • You really don’t want to be bringing up Ukraine as an example. The CIA’s little coup has turned that country into an utter shithole.

        • The first russian kingdom was established in Ukraine. The slavs, huns, and muslim khans have been fighting over that area for 1000 years….. Hell, at one time Cathrine the Great established a huge german colony in the Volga region until Stalin cleaned them out. Everbody and nobody can claim Ukraine as theirs.

    • Don’t worry. Pretty soon the Democrats will say that’s exactly what Trump is doing, hiring Russians to teach our innocent young to shoot, and Trump will tweet out something hilarious to goad them, and some staffer will take that as a mandate to do something stupid, and whaddya know, pretty soon will be importing Spetsnaz airsoft coaches and win the new Olympics sport of 3-gun airsoft competitions.

  1. Cheeki Breeki my dudes!

Honestly, there’s nothing funnier that reading this absolute idiocy out of the WaPo anymore. If it’s not the Nazi’s are coming, it’s the Russians are coming. I can’t help but point out how that kind of leftist swine were the kind of scum that loved Russian when they were communist. Now they’re in full blown red scare mode ever since Hillary failed to cheat her way to the presidency, and they decided to try and shift the blame away how terrible she was and towards a narrative of mystical foreign influence in our election, and now, our culture.

    • I wouldn’t underestimate the grief Putin can cause us.

He hated the HildaBeast after she questioned the validity of Putin’s re-election, and Putin hates Trump for flooding the world with oil, doing ugly things the Russian economy.

Putin simply loves fucking with us, just because he *can*…

    • Well… Russia is very anti-commie these days. Something about the locals getting tired of endless cycles of authoritarianism and genocide. For all the bad press Putin gets, his government affects the daily life of the average Russian not at all.

  2. Man, if you want toxic levels of leftist stupidity, check out the comment section of the article. There’s something for everyone; collusion, hatred of the west, the military industrial complex, anti-military sentiment, and even one or two posts blaming the NRA for one thing or the other.

But in all seriousness, nowhere in the article or it’s many comments is a suggestion that some dudes just like Call of Duty and action movies and want to play airsoft in the woods like an Operator. Instead of teenage boys just doing a little harmless escapism, it’s immediately turned into “RUSSIA IS GROOMING A HOSTILE INSURRECTION BY MEANS OF AIRSOFT INSTRUCTORS”. It’s good old fashioned mass hysteria at its best.

  3. Wait, I thought McCarthyism was bad?

Sorry comrade. I forgot for a moment: We have always been at war with Oceana.

  4. Vladimir Putin is a Russian nationalist. He views the collapse of the Soviet Union as the worst thing that happened in the 20th century because it stranded Russian people in the soviet satellite states as citizens of not Russia.

I’d be concerned if I cared about Latvia and Estonia. Are they in NATO? That’d be a reason to be concerned.

    • Putin is regrowing the Russian empire. Which isn’t all bad. Western Europe may not go full islam with a strong russian empire there to absorb the EU.

      • I’d be more worried about a strong Russian empire than a Muslim horde because I think a Russian empire would be a stronger adversary. (Not that they would be a stronger adversary if they were an adversary, but that they would be an adversary that is strong).

        • Historically, the Russian Empire has had very few territorial ambitions. Finland might want to be concerned, but Estonia and Latvia are artificial countries anyway. They haven’t been independent states since the Middle Ages.

          • “Historically, the Russian Empire has had very few territorial ambitions.” I don’t know if I would agree with that, but I’m pretty sure you have a better understanding of Russian history than I do.

        • Very few territorial ambitions *in Europe*. It is very much a continental power. Let’s not forget that Russia steamrolled most of central and western Europe in the early 1800s during the Napoleonic Wars and then just gave back the territory. The borders of the Russian Empire hadn’t really changed between 1700 and the Russian revolution.

  5. Former military operatives with special skills getting paid to instruct non government affiliated individuals and organizations on military tactics for fun and profit. Please tell me how this is different than any other country in the world – including the U.S.?

Sounds like capitalism at work to me.

Point of fact knowing how the OPFOR conducts business is valuable in executing a successful counter offense. Perhaps the U.S. military should hire a few of these Russians.
