Firearms have become one of the most politically contentious issues in the United States in recent decades. As active shooter incidents have become increasingly common, exactly who should be allowed to own guns, and the specific types of guns available to consumers, have become subjects of on-going debate in this country.

While increasingly controversial, firearms have been fundamental to American identity since the earliest days of the republic. A constitutional right, gun ownership was all but essential for families settling the North American frontier, from the Colonial era through the period of westward expansion. Necessary not only as a means of self defense, guns were also needed for hunting and providing food.

With fully stocked grocery stores and armed law enforcement in the United States of today, firearms are no longer the practical necessity they once were. As a result, the majority of Americans do not own a gun. Still, the legacy of the role firearms played in making the country what it is looms large, and today, guns wield outsized influence on American culture, values, and politics.

Using data from a range of surveys, public opinion polls, government databases, legal documents, and historical archives, 24/7 Tempo identified 37 amazing facts about guns in America.

When it comes to firearms, the United States is a global outlier. One of only three countries in which gun ownership is a constitutional right, the U.S. is also the only country in the world with more guns than people.

    • “ With fully stocked grocery stores and armed law enforcement in the United States of today, firearms are no longer the practical necessity they once were.”

Then why does the IRS need them? Why do any federal agencies need them? Why does the military have them? The wall st. Staff are missing critical elements here to their assertion.

      • Why does the Social Security Administration have SWAT teams? Afraid Granny Smith is going to hole up with her H&R 12 gauge single shot?

        • Probably because the SSA much like the IRS or any other agency arrests dangerous criminals. The IRS eventually got Al Capone on tax evasion. Do you think they should have sent unarmed auditors to pick him up?

        • “Auditors” are NOT the class of gummit goons that picked him up. I believe it was Federal marshalls went on the little adventure to “round him up”. Auditors to NOT enfroce laws. they only gather the information needed to pass along to higher ups who then go do the dirty work and face the lead.
Pencilpushing auditors knowingly placing their overweight derrierres in t eh line of fire? Man o man you’ve got a gREAT sense of humour. Next thing you’ll be saying tax cheats will be volunettering to correct their “mistakes” and voluntarily handing over the difference between THEIR numbers and reality.

Its actually far more efficient to effet this “division of labour”. ANy idea the actual cost to train, arm, season with real world exoerience, a cadre of “armed enforcers” of the laws? Audittors need several years of college to learn what they need to know to do their job. You gonna propose they spend an extra two years in firearms, tactical situations, law (ya cain’t have these “cowboys” breaking the law when they DO arrest their quarry…. IF they even survive.

    • Why does TTAG need to dig out/post these meaningless troll bait “stories”? Post REAL news.

    • does anybody believe this nonsense?….people bought all these guns for a reason…and the left provided those reasons…they’re totally complicit in all of this….

  1. I stopped reading the Wall Street Journal round about 1994. It seem they went even farther to the left than they were then. Oh yeah, and I also started making more money in the stock market AFTER I stopped reading the Journal. Yeah, that’s true.

    • the front page human interest story is usually good, and they will allow some surprisingly intelligent editorials.
      it would not influence investment.

      • My dad used to get the Wall Street Urinal mailed to him occasionally, even though he never subscribed. I think it was the only paper that my folks got, so they used it to line their parakeets cage with.
To the best of my knowledge, Petey the Parakeet died penniless.

      • I used to get occasional promotional subscriptions. My dad’s had a subscription for years. It’s the best paper, but that isn’t saying much. It’s definitely left wing. They almost always relegate the right wing articles to the opinion section even when it’s straight reporting.

    • RE: Using data from a range of surveys, public opinion polls, government databases, legal documents, and historical archives, 24/7 Tempo identified 37 amazing facts about guns in America.”

Clearly the article was penned by some sneaky nasty nice Gun Control zealot trying their very best to restrain their disdain for firearms.

All of that data and not one word about how History Confirms Gun Control is Rooted in Racism and Genocide…Amazing how know it all pompous gutless wonders never want to discus what hides on the other side of the coin.

    • That is NOT the Wall St Journal. The WSJ HAS, in fact, gone to sh it though since Murdocjh bought it.

    • What does the Wall Street Journal have to do with anything? This article is not from the WSJ.

  2. and with the shelves empty, leos hands tied and courts tickling crooks with feathers (a feather is sexy, the whole chicken is kinky) you’d better grab your what? ankles?

  3. Fun fact: Tyrants need an unarmed populace in order to subject them to brutal social engineering and out right murder, see Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Castro, Pol Pot among others.

    • All of the wicked, both tyrants, and the common street criminals seek to disarm the common folk. They want to turn us all into their victims. Evil is real, and those who seek to disarm the public serve the cause of evil.

  4. Leaving aside that in rural and poorer areas, hunting is still a major contributor to many families’ food supply…

So what? It’s a choice for the individual to make. If an individual deems it not “necessary” to own a firearm, it doesn’t entitle that person to make the choice for other adults. “Need” writ large doesn’t enter into it.

  5. “ One of only three countries in which gun ownership is a constitutional right, the U.S. is also the only country in the world with more guns than people. ”

Uh, duh, that’s called leading by example.
A mentor once told me that sometimes when you push boundaries it can upset some people. And typically the more peeps that are uncomfortable with this indicates you’re on the right track.

Freedom… it’s not just for the ruling class

  6. I can get on board with eliminating things from our lives that are not practical necessities.

We can start with most cars for being impractical, all of Holloywood, music, arts and of course men in womanface. Procreation is a necessity for civilization so sorry to the gheys but either be practical and necessary or you’re outta here.

While an economy of trade may be practical and necessary we certainly don’t need for-profit speculators so buh-by Wall Street.

    This is fun.

  7. tell me again who the OP ED writer is and why we should even consider them, their opinion;or the other parts of the world he/she/them/they apparently wish to emulate so much?

  8. The need for hunting to put food on the table may have decreased, but the need for defense of one’s self and property has not diminished. Since crooks don’t work they will commit crimes that may result in death in an attempt to steal funds with which to buy food.
I hear birds don’t like their cages lined with pages from the wall street journal. Besides it is already full of shit.

  9. Awesome to hear we’re the only country with more guns than people! USA ! USA ! USA !

Also which are the other 2 countries with firearms ownership in constitution?

      • I don’t know about Guatemala but let Jose Sanchez try to buy a gun in Mexico at the only legal gun store in the country, located in Mexico City. Heaven forbid he attempt to buy a firearm in a military caliber. He will die of old age before his request to buy a single shot 12 ga. shotgun is approved. On the other hand, should he be a friend or relative of El Presidente, his request will be honored the same day.

  10. lol
What a load of complete BS!

Every little thing said here is easily refuted with what we have all seen for ourselves in just these last few years. If this person truly believes this then I want them to explain why there is such a heavy handed push to arm everyone in Ukraine. I saw what happened during Covid and what happens when a major storm comes through that knocks out power for months.

  11. Armed police are merely a means of cleaning up the mess after the fact; not to mention that SCOTUS has made clear that they have no duty to protect you. You are your own first responder.

  12. Eventually the Democrats will control both houses of Congress and when that blessed day comes we will finally have a national health care plan like all the other civilized nations of the world have had for decades.

As far as gun control is concerned the majority of the American people are fed up with all the gun violence and they do not want to live in fear of maniacs with assault rifles gunning down their children at school or themselves when they are shopping or at a large public gathering.

Sane gun control laws are long overdue in Capitalvania and survey after survey proves the American people are ready and wanting it. It is not a question of “if” such laws will be passed but only a question of “when” and the sooner it takes place the more lives will be saved. The history of gun control has proven it in the civilized countries of the world.

The average American Hillbilly has never been to Europe or the Far East and observed how much safer it is to live in those countries than in Capitalvania where rivers of blood flow in the streets on a daily basis and its about time it ends.

    • lil ‘d, I thought that “Blood River” might have helped me locate Capitalvania on a US map, but it was just as suspected… they’re BOTH just made up shit from the warped mind of a stark-raving lunatic. Since your fantasy -land dream of Constitutional shit-canning won’t happen in five lifetimes, do us and yourself a huge favor and move to one of those wet dream Utopias… Venezuela ought to tickle your fancy.

    • “The average American Hillbilly has never been to Europe or the Far East and observed how much safer it is to live in those countries than in Capitalvania”

I’ve been to Europe, including the UK, and the ‘far east’ (Japan) multiple times. It is not ‘much safer’, just different weapons being used in their violent crimes that are largely not even investigated by police so never make it into stats because no arrest and prosecution.

No country in the world is ‘much safer. Its just different levels of violent crime using different predominate weapons.

      • Yes, in Japan the yakuza prefer to use knives or swords, both illegal, to carry out hits. As .40 Cal mentioned, a yakuza knocking off another yakuza gets an “Okay we’ll check into it” from the local fuzz. Now, if it is a shooting it gets all kinds of police response because the danger to non-yakuza is much higher in a shooting carried out by a hood who perhaps is firing his piece for the very first time in his lifetime. So there is a double reason for yakuza to use knives and swords. Easier to obtain. Heck any decent metal worker can make a serviceable sword. Might not be a multi-thousand dollar Nipponto made from special sword steel, but for stabbing or hacking, works just fine. I have a $3.00 Chinese made machete that will do the job. I may not be able to strike your head off with a single slice, but that takes practice and commoners who are okay with having their heads sliced off for practice have become really rare these days. But I can make a bloody mess out of someone with it and not cause a big ruckus. Well, there might be some screaming and yelling but no really loud noises and in some neighborhoods, screaming and yelling is a nightly event. Japanese cops can still hold an arrestee for 15 days without notifying anyone, even the prosecutor that they have you. They can no longer interrogate you 24 hours straight but they can still tag team you with interrogators. Some percentage over 90% of all Japanese crimes are solved by confession. Hmmmm??? I don’t remember whether it is 95% or 98% so won’t define the exact percentage.

    • dacian, the DUNDERHEAD, Nice try. Same ole Leftist anti-gun propaganda. IT seems that you wannabes keep harping on how the Europeans have such a better murder/violence rate. It seems Lefty that your European buds have a rate pretty darn close to ours, overall. You see instead of guns, your criminal buds in Europe use knives when they commit their violence. There is a story going round about a city that put a box out for people to give up their knives. Only problem is that the knife box was stolen before the city fathers could retrieve it.
And you Lefties keep telling us how awful it is that people commit suicide with a gun. Well, in Germany, they use knives more often that we do with guns and knives put together.
Let me put it another way, you are a Leftist anti-gun propagandist.
And let me add, that your buds the DEMONcRATS are not going to get the House and the Senate in 2024. You can kiss your “universal health care” good bye. The American people have seen the fiasco it has created in Great Britain and Canada. No thanks!

      • In Japan which has a much higher rate of suicide than the U.S. carbon monoxide is the favorite way of doing oneself in. They even have on-line chat rooms where folks can get together and discuss various successful methods of suicide. Group suicide is not an unknown event in Japan where folks who have met in a suicide chat room decide to get together and do the deed in a group effort. Blue tarps and a barbecue grill as the favorite instruments for such group activities. There is a forest near Mt Fuji that is the favorite spot for such activities. It is so popular that the authorities make regular sweeps through it to gather up the dead bodies of those who have successfully passed on. They try to retrieve them before they get too ripe.

      • to Walter the Beverly Hillbilly

Several days before the school slaughter at Sandy Hook a man man in China attacked a school with a knife. All the children survived. If he had had access to a firearm none of them would have survived. Now you clown what part of this do you not understand????

        • dacian, the DUNDERHEAD, WOW! Did the school have a nurse in attendance? Maybe someone was armed with a gun and took your knife welding guy out?
if in one hand and you have a good idea of what is in the other.
I also read of a school be attacked by a gunman in Uganda and 20 children killed, would you like to go there and try to ply your anti-gun propaganda?
Speaking of clowns, how is your namesake, Alfred E Newman ?

        • once again dacian you are full of s*it and lying about how much safer China is…

          just a few things….

“A series of uncoordinated mass stabbings, hammer attacks, and cleaver attacks in the People’s Republic of China began in March 2010. The spate of attacks left at least 90 dead and some 473 injured. … As the Chenpeng school attack was followed by the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in the United States hours later … On 21 September 2012, three children died and 13 more were injured after a suspected mental patient allegedly broke into a nursery in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and attacked students with a knife. and yeah.. the people on 14 Dec in China survived…with cut off fingers and ears and trauma that will be with them fjr the rest of their lives…if you want to call that surviving.

but you miss something in your zeal to dance in the blood of the innocent…. no one armed was in these places to stop these attackers and none of them were stopped before they could inflict harm.

you are sick dacian, you need to see a mental health professional. you actually desire to see more killed and can’t distinguish reality any longer

and there are others as well, the wikipedia link is incomplete in their list but there are others there as well.

Survived? You call stabbing injury and death and cutting off fingers and ears, and the trauma that will follow those people who lived for the rest of their lives – you call that surviving and want to use it in some weird ‘dance in the blood of the innocent’ rant of not allowing kids to be protected as more safer, how?

Ya know whats missing in those incidents in China? Am armed person actually in those areas at the beginning of the attack, able to stop the attacker.

In every case except one in the United States, in the last 30 years, where an ordinary armed citizen was permitted to carry a firearm and engaged a mass shooter (which also includes school shooters, but here combining in school and other public places) there has been less injury or death (in some cases none) vs waiting for police to arrived and comparatively between those conditions for the armed citizen and waiting for police to arrive in all incidents there has been overall 80% less people injured or killed when an armed on scene citizen engaged and stopped the shooter – it works out on a per incident basis to about ~12% average more injured or killed while waiting for police to handle it. For example, had Eli Dicken not engaged the shooter that day – waiting for police would have resulted in a large number of people being injured or killed, possibly 30 or more because without Eli engaging the shooter to stop him the shooter would have been able to advance into avenues of escape in 10 seconds or less way before police could arrive and dominate those areas and in those areas were up to 100 people and they would have had no escape.

The only verified study (because one was able to contact the schools their selves and check it out even though other anti-gun researchers tried to refute the findings despite the schools them selves verifying the study was correct) – was conducted by John Lott – shows that armed teachers are a deterrent and life saver. The study examined the rate of shootings between January 2000 to August 2018 in all K-12 school shootings that allowed teachers to carry guns. The research did not find one one shooting in which someone was wounded or killed because an armed teacher stopped the shooter. Where comparatively without armed teachers in a school the number of people killed at other schools increased significantly doubling between 2001 and 2008 versus 2009 and 2018.

(note also: 28 states currently have teachers that actively carry guns during school on a routine bases. In those states in every school where teachers choose to carry guns and do on a routine daily basis there have been zero school shootings or school shooting attempts where comparatively in other schools in the same states where teachers could carry guns but did not on a routine daily basis there were school shooting attempts and shootings and had a SRO who did stop the shooter but the difference is stark between zero shootings with armed teachers and some shootings with SRO’s. Teachers have more of a vested protective instinct and desire to protect their students, this is because the shooter is coming for the students too and teachers have bond with their students and their own lives are in danger too – where as an SRO or police are usually not close enough to the students in the class room, sometimes not even in the school, and as we see with the Broward Coward incident and Uvalde can simply choose not to protect the kids or follow some orders from some place else or some other ‘procedure’ where as a teacher who has students under attack has no other choice but to try to fight and stop the attacker to save not only the kids but their own lives. Had there been one armed teacher in that area at Uvalde, or instead of the Broward Coward at that school, the kids would have had a much better chance and most likely the death and injury would have been much less. Although there are 28 states now where teachers can actively carry, there are some more states that do have the framework in their laws for teachers to carry but teachers are dissuaded from carrying by the teachers union and anti-gun organizations and democrat politicians and in every one of those states there have been school shooting attempts, with some students shot – one or two -, at over 50% of the schools even though they had SRO’s)

Most if not all of these stopped shootings never made the national news, there wasn’t enough injury or death to satisfy the left-wing glorification of their sick agenda.

You are sick dacian. You push a proven-deadly agenda of removing protection for kids in schools in favor of an imaginary force field of a ‘no guns prohibition’ which does nothing but attract school shooters. And every school shooting that happens where there are no firearm armed defenders proves you wrong yet you are too stupid to realize it. Then you come back here and post your crap to dance in the blood of the innocent to push an agenda for one of the very things that resulted in more death and injury and that being no firearm resistance available to stop the shooter yet fail to realize the ‘no guns prohibition’ is what attracted the shooter there.

You are delusional dacian, you like all anti-gun have lost touch with reality and try to cover it up with confusing the issue with talk and discussion and controversy and semantics. All the while purposely ignoring that the anti-gun policies of ‘no guns prohibitions’ are specifically attracting school shooters into schools. You figuratively, like all anti-gun, dance in the blood of the innocent every time a school shooting happens. You and all anti-gun have this opinion that pro-2A people don’t care – we care greatly, its horrible and we want those kids protected and we know how to do it because we know, aside from someone getting very win-the-powerball-type lucky, a deadly force threat can only be stopped by deadly force and can not be stopped by a ‘no guns prohibition’ that you and all anti-gun think stops school shooters.

You are sick dacian, you need some serious mental health help.

    • “where rivers of blood flow in the streets on a daily basis”

      huh?

really? you so literally say ‘rivers of blood’ then it must be true, right?

so I should be able, through a simple search on, say, Google or Bing able to find multiple news articles and videos telling me where these rivers of blood are and see videos of them. After all, this is a world where people place such on YouTube and surely at least one anti-gun group would have documented video evidence of “rivers of blood” that “flow in the streets on a daily basis”. Think about it, the anti-gun prophecy come true that ’cause, ya know, law abiding people have guns and carry them that “rivers of blood flow in the streets on a daily basis”… so surely if its as you claim there should be many such documenting videos and stories and lots of actual evidence substantiating your claim.

      oh wait….

how come there is not even one news article that tells where these rivers of blood are? These rivers happen daily, right?

how come there are exactly zero anti-gun groups or people who have documented such rivers of blood like you claim?

how come there are exactly zero research studies anywhere that document your claimed daily rivers of blood?

ahhh wait… I know, ill ask one of those guys driving one of Joe Bidens many trucks roaming around multiple cities streets and then parking at curbs and spreading guns like Johnny Appleseed spread apple seeds. Surely they would have seen these daily rivers of blood you claim and be able to direct me to one so I can see it ’cause after all they are, according to Joe, plentiful and get around a lot so would have the best chance of seeing one of these rivers and knowing where they are. If I find one of these rivers ill let you know.

    • You śťūpid fùćķ leftists are about get the civil war you deserve. Then you’ll be forced to move to the socialist utopia (śhìť hole) of your choice, BECAUSE YOU CAN’T STAY HERE!

    • Sorry kid. This dumb assed country boy has been stationed in Europe and in Asia.
Also spent more time than I wanted too in Central America. From what I’ve seen of your comments, either you have never been outside the resorts or have done nothing but read travelogs.
While it’s true I never felt threatened years ago in western Europe a couple decades ago, when I was in Europe last year, I was surprised at just how dangerous the major cities have become.
You may not get shot, but stabbings have become common and shootings are becoming more common than in the past.
Used to be napping in the train station was safe. Don’t even hang out longer than the next train today.
And their healthcare is not as universal nor as inexpensive as you imagine. Unless you think 6 month waits for basic services is somehow good. Or else you pay for private insurance or a private practice DR.

    • some of us have been to europe…[more than once]….saw Uxi’s and AK’s at the airports…didn’t make me all that much safer…terrorism is a real threat over there

  13. “With fully stocked grocery stores and armed law enforcement in the United States of today, firearms are no longer the practical necessity they once were. As a result, the majority of Americans do not own a gun.”

    1. “fully stocked grocery stores” has absolutely nothing to do with firearms ownership.

    2. “armed law enforcement” has has absolutely nothing to do with firearms ownership. In fact, its one of the very reasons to own a firearm because this “armed law enforcement” is more than extremely unlikely to be there when you need to protect your self or family or maybe others against the very criminal elements this “armed law enforcement” doesn’t protect you from in that imminent moment when such defense is needed.

    3. “the majority of Americans do not own a gun” is actually false. Based upon records of sales via the submission of the 4473 (over time) ~40% of the law abiding U.S. population owns guns so although sizeable its not a majority. However, based upon surveys and studies ~30% of the law abiding U.S. population did not acquire their guns in a transaction involving the 4473 and either borrowed guns, bought guns in private person-person sales, or were gifted guns. This means that, in terms of possession, that over 60% of the law abiding U.S. population ‘owns’ guns and that is a majority.

    4. “One of only three countries in which gun ownership is a constitutional right” is deceptive and disingenuous. There is a ‘constitutional’ expressed right where a government has ‘granted’ and what the government grants can be taken away by the government so its not really a ‘right’ but rather a ‘legal’ ‘strong’ permission granted or allowed by those governments. The United States is different, the 10 rights in the Bill of Rights are not granted by government and are not ‘legally granted’, and are not ‘permissions or allowances’, but are inherent inalienable rights.

Inalienable rights supersede governmental laws and cultural norms. They are natural rights that may never be taken away from the individual, and yes firearms ownership is an inherent inalienable means to protect life and liberty, which is something not recognized in any ‘constitution’ in any other country in the world and not even in the ‘Universal Declaration of Human Rights’ by the United Nations.

So its deceptive and disingenuous to say the United States is “One of only three countries in which gun ownership is a constitutional right” because our right is an inherent inalienable right and the others are not and there is a difference.

    • Not to mention the firearms that have been handed down in family transfers. There are millions of firearms that have barely been used, many families do not use the weapons(other than to learn how to shoot them….maybe…).
Hopefully these owners will keep them up, make sure of cleanliness and proper springs, and may become interested later in life.

    • “This means that, in terms of possession, that over 60% of the law abiding U.S. population ‘owns’ guns and that is a majority.”

And…if we start getting really technical…if you include firearms manufacturers production stock for civilian use, and FFL for retail sale stock to civilians you can increase that to closer to ~70% because these too ‘own’ those firearms (before sales). And to go further if you include ‘government’ (e.g. state, local, federal) you can increase that to closer to ~85% – ~90% range.

So contrary to the biased and incorrect and false and deceptive assertion that “Guns Are No Longer a Practical Necessity in America”….up to ~90% of America disagrees with that and as for the general public at large a majority disagree with that.

and as to ‘practical necessity’… to also point out that the government (e.g. state, local, federal, etc…) certainly think they are ‘practical necessity’ along with millions of law abiding citizens that are the majority that is so deceptively and falsely claimed to not exist.

    • Yeah, somebody I don’t know calls me after dinner and wants to know if I own any guns. If I am in a good mood I gently hang up. If it has been one of those days, I am liable to burn the ears off whoever the idiot is. Actually, now that I have moved up to a cell phone, if it is an unknown number which my cell phone remembers telephone numbers way better than I do at my advanced age, I just push the hang up button and if they call more than once I put them on the automatic system that turns them off as soon as they complete the number input process. Modern Science! It’s wonderful! Although for user friendliness nothing beat the old party line we had when I was a kid. Pick up the phone and ask the operator for the pharmacist. She might tell you that he was over at the luncheonette. Did we need to talk to him right away or could it wait until he returned from lunch?

      • “Yeah, somebody I don’t know calls me after dinner and wants to know if I own any guns. ”

just tell them…”yep, a lot. But I can’t talk right now, pretty busy cause another truck with guns just pulled up to drop off for the gang.”

    • most people…[the law-abiding anyway] don’t own guns in urban areas…although that is changing…especially in regard to pistols…the rest of the country has plenty and seems interested in acquiring more…

  14. I’d much rather be without a car (in a rural area) or be broke (anywhere) than be witihout a gun (anywhere)

  15. Gee, I regard armed law enforcement several miles away and well stocked grocery stores reasons why we need guns and bows, for that matter, more than ever! Especially considering the inflated prices resulting from excessive government spending. Living in the country when seconds matter law enforcement is only about an hour away and deer meat is after all a good source of lean protein!

  16. The Wall Street Journal shouldn’t be “allowed” to print their trash paper. With the internet these days ordinary people can share information online so big newspapers are no longer necessary, needed, or even good for the country. Bill of Rights be damned…

  17. I suppose they drive to work, and stay off of public transportation and do not drive through bad areas, in order to publish this drivel: “With fully stocked grocery stores and armed law enforcement in the United States of today, firearms are no longer the practical necessity they once were.” I don’t know what a fully stocked grocery store has to do with guns. And if they author paid attention to reality, they would know that the criminals are traveling in packs now, and hitting fully stocked grocery stores. The need to defend yourself has never been greater, especially since illegal invaders are streaming across our borders. They are taking what they want, from whomever has it, and the cops show up afterwards and write a report.

    • There is not going to be fully stocked grocery stores in the near future and the Powers That Be do not want the citizens to be armed. Every mammal gets really pissy when they get hungry.

  18. They have become an Absolute Necessity. In the chaos filled jungle that has become of the once polite society. That I grew up in.

  19. This time it will be different. These exact words are said by the so-called highly educated right before every genocide.

Yes, we know what happened last time, but we know better, so this time will be different.

It’s arm up, or get in the box car. Xring3.com

  20. “As active shooter incidents have become increasingly common, exactly who should be allowed to own guns, and the specific types of guns available to consumers, have become subjects of on-going debate in this country.”

Nope! Active shooter incidents have become increasingly over blown up by an extremely biased liberal media.

    • most people will never experience the traditional mass shooting…being a victim of crime is another story..and being caught up in a shootout between blacks is becoming all too common…no matter where you are

    • Practical or not I bought a shotgun this month. And I ain’t giving up ANYTHING else🙄

  21. “the U.S. is also the only country in the world with more guns than people.”

Actually, although often said its not actually true. When you include all guns in the US a little over 25% of them are held by elements of government that are not law enforcement and law enforcement. When you apply that government and law enforcement holding concept to other countries we find that every country in Europe and Japan and Russia and China has more firearms per population than the US civilian population has.

    • pistols are everywhere these days…some legally carried and possessed…some not….

  22. They want you disarmed because they want you dead. The guns make it harder.

And make no mistake. Anti gun people hate American gun owner. They want nothing less than the literal complete and total ban of all guns, the compete and total ban of private gun ownership with the full 100% deployment of the entire United States military and all federal law enforcement to godoor to door to confiscate all guns by force and kill not just the gun owner but everyone in that household. They want literally nothing less than a complete and total government mandated extermination of the entire population of the United States in a gun only household. And the fact that they can’t do that fills them with hatred and rage for us. Thusly justifying the primary reason to get them in the first place. They only have so many bodies they can use to enforce it and the general population would not go along with it. Hell even a good chunk of the military and federal law-enforcement wouldn’t go along with it. The majority still would. However most of them would not have a problem pulling a Vasily Blokhin and personally executing thousands of United States citizens as long as they get to keep their pension. But there are only so many of them.

It’s probably why most Democrats, the far left and literally every single solitary person in military leader ship roles want to use nuclear weapons to exterminate all gun owners. They talk about it enough.

    • The left-wing doesn’t want anyone not them to have guns but the left wing accepts its OK that the left wing has guns. Somehow in their minds their lives are more valuable and more worth defending than yours or your family;

Even Joe Biden has guns in his home, about 5 of them according to Hunter Biden in text messages (https://dev.thetruthaboutguns.com/hunter-biden-illegals-to-blame-for-tossing-his-gun-in-a-dumpster-near-a-school/#comment-6644238) – and the son of Hunters sister-in-law-turned-lover/pump-piece-when-hookers-not-avaiable has, according to Hunters text messages (see link), “There are f—ing more weapons in your sons room then in an armory,”. – these are all left-wing liberals.

And even in the anti-gun groups own ranks, for example, Shannon Watts once admitted that some women (and men) in her organization owned and carried guns. And there’s a woman that’s a member of Moms Demand Action that has appeared in a pic (protesting with MDA) with an article here at TTAG, that I know for a fact she owned an AR-15 and carries a Sig Sauer P226 and I know that because I saw her the day she purchased at the gun store about an hour after their MDA protest broke up and she still protests with MDA today. Our own local resident ex-very-rabid-anti-gun person now pro 2A and pro-gun after her life altering awakening to reality, used to work directly with Shannon Watts at times, sometimes she will see a pic of anti-gun groups protesting and point out for us which ones she knew to be gun carriers and owners of AR-15’s.

But ya never really see the left-wing talking about them owning guns AND wanting to take those left wing guns away – its always wanting to take your guns away on the pro-2A side. We occasionally here at TTAG see a left-wing’er come out and say (e.g. in their biased and delusional articles bought forth here as part of TTAG produced articles) they own guns and we see people comment that anti-gun will take their guns too…well, I do not believe that to be true as anti-gun is not going to take the left-wing guns and that’s evidenced by their acceptance that its ok for a left-winger, even in their own anti-gun groups ranks, to have guns but they protest against your guns on the pro-2A side.

Its also evidenced by the left-wing acceptance of the very-militant and violent members of the liberal LGTB (and what ever alphabet letter follows that now) community having firearms – for example, notice how the left-wing tried to downplay the gender-identity factor in connection with the Nashville and Club Q mass-shootings (the Club Q shooter identified as non-binary) to make it about YOUR guns on the pro-2A side instead of the militant and violent mental illness of these members of the liberal LGTB (and what ever alphabet letter follows that now) community having firearms. Notice how its OK for the left-wing’s pet private army ANTIFA to have AR-15’s to ‘provide security’ for a sexualized and basically obscene pornographic drag show for small children and the left-wing anti-gun groups didn’t say a word about it but if pro-2A people show up in public carrying AR-15’s the left-wingers point to it as ‘proof’ of the cause of gun violence and all sorts of things and YOUR guns on the pro-2A side need to be taken away. And they do all this while ignoring the cause of their claimed ‘gun violence’ which are criminals and mental illness.

And MSM, notice they don’t bother to have negative slant on the left-wing having guns and anytime its comes up they direct the narrative to YOUR guns on the pro-2A side are a problem.

    • one of the most ironically funny things I heard a liberal anti-gun person say was right after they had been beaten very badly by two guys who robbed him. Not just a few punches and shoving him around to show dominance and get the point across…. had him down and punched and kicked after he handed over his money, broken rib, eyes swolen shut, smashed in nose, big bleeding gash open to the bone along the side of his face, sliding in and out of consciousness. Me and a friend came across it happening, came to his aid, drew our firearms when one of them started towards us trying to pull ‘something from under his hoodie (that later turned out to be a gun when the cops caught him), but when we drew they both turned and ran. We did what we could for him, called 911. As he came around again before the ambulance and cops arrived he asked. “where are the cops?” then passed out again several seconds later as the cops and ambulance came rolling up.

later I thought about that comment. And though the situation was not good at all I could not help but to laugh at that comment.

  23. The left hates the fact that citizens in American are armed. They desperately long for the days of having slave collars around the necks of ‘the little people’ who they look down upon. All their actions and even their works point to this. Their demands for obedience to their narrative, their language, their code of behavior. Non-compliance is treated like a non-pod person discovered by one of the pod people. They DEMAND you do, act and speak like they wish you to.

I refuse to be a slave or bend the knee to any but God.

    • 2020 was a disaster for them…it motivated many to arm themselves who would never have considered it previously…they brought this on themselves…

  24. We saw how well calling the police worked out over the 2019-2022 years. No thank you on that being the only people to rely on for defense.

That doesn’t say anything about the idea of letting the state have a monopoly of force.

  25. “exactly who should be allowed to own guns, and the specific types of guns available to consumers, have become subjects of on-going debate in this country.”

Only the gun control side seems to be hung up on what types should be legal or by whom, and that is by design to continuously pass “common sense reforms”, victory by bits and pieces.

Outside the gun control crew, there shouldn’t be debate, it’s yeah, all arms are legal, and by all people. Though current federal and state law has a lot of limits both to what arms, like those scary switch blades, or braced pistols, frightening imported rifles, and those small pistols without target sights!

  26. In this age of BLM, ANTIFA, Social Justice Warriors, Illegals and just plain old criminals you should be armed 24 x 7 x 365. I carry my gun with me everywhere I go, store, meetings, church, dinner at friends, restaurants and movie theaters. I carry it taking out the trash, cutting the lawn, watching TV and having breakfast. It’s less than 2 feet away from me at night or in the shower. I highly suggest you do the same. And yes, carry a knife also…

  27. Bruen outlined quite clearly the answer to anti-gun questions. So either obey the law or take a hike.

Also, we need a nationwide boycott of all supplies to all federal government agencies until they better represent American Citizens.

  28. “So its deceptive and disingenuous to say the United States is “One of only three countries in which gun ownership is a constitutional right” because our right is an inherent inalienable right and the others are not and there is a difference”

and the rest of what I wrote in that post…

context matters, and leaving it out is something, among other things, their ‘Amazing Facts’ left out.

  29. And the point is what exactly? That we should give up our guns? The author needs to study history and see what happens to unarmed populations. The people have the right to be armed to prevent what happened to the other groups in history AND to prevent our own government from becoming more dictators’ than they already are.

  30. You need a gun because when seconds count, law enforcement is only minutes away. Plus, it is MY right to won one or more if I want to – see: Constitution, Bill of Rights, Second Amendment. END OF ARGUMENT!

    • The 2nd Amendment is to PUT DOWN a Tyranical Government.
The way Our CORRUPT Federal Governemnt is going….(Down the Toilet) WEAPONIZING the FBI, CIA, BATFE, Homeland “Security”…..And Just PLAIN BAT SHIT OUT OF THEIR MIND DEMOCRATS (GODLESS PEOPLE) is EXACTLY WHY WE NEED THE SECOND AMENDMENT. GOD HELP US.

    • law enforcement is a variable these days..and under attack as well…the only one you can count on is you….

  31. This is obviously a claim that the whole platform under the Second Amendment is based on some flavor of “need”. Interestingly, the Second Amendment itself is based on “need”, rather than natural, human and civil right.

      • “yet that word never appears in its context…”

        Actually, it does….
“A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security….” IOW, security of a free state “needs” a well-regulated Militia. And, a well-regulated Militia “needs” ready access to appropriate weapons to protect the people from tyrannical government, and other threats to safety of the community.

  32. If taken at face value this opinion piece tells us :

    criminal behaviour no longer exists

    food is plentiful and inexpensive

the government is self regulating and free from any ability to be tyrannical

the world is at peace and all is well

I think I shall remain armed. I really don’t think the above is true.

  33. AMAZING..I do not recall seeing the MAIN Reason for the Second Amendment. TO Stop and Put Down a Tyrannical Government. NOTHING About the 2nd Amendmenst says ANYTHING about Hunting or Self Defense!!!

    • a”militia” can be many…or one..the 2A is all about self-defense….and having the means to do so…..

  34. So the major argument against private ownership of firearms is we don’t need them.
Guess the government will protect you, right?
So who will protect you from the government? Can’t happen here? Believe that and I have a bridge for sale cheap.
How well did the government protect a large portion of the German population in the 1930’s and 1940’s?
How well did the government protect several million Russians? Or who knows how many Chinese?
How well did the government protect thousands of Cambodians? or Guatemalan’s? Or Peruvians? Or Haitian’s? Or Ugandan’s?
How many disarmed civilians who’s only crime was to be a minority or out of favor with the government at the time have died just in the last century?
Can’t happen here? Ask a German Jew if it could happen in 1925 Germany. Or people in Italy before Mussolini. Or in Spain before Franco.
For that matter ask the disarmed Lakota people at Wounded Knee.
But we should trust the government to protect us?
And don’t forget that armed police officer may or may not show up in time to do anything more than write a report and call someone to pick up the bodies.
Sure, you can trust the government. Just ask an Indian or a Whale.

  35. “Using data from a range of surveys, public opinion polls, government databases, legal documents, and historical archives, 24/7 Tempo identified 37 amazing facts about guns in America. ”
    ——–

    Person 1: “The polls show…”
Person 2: “Well poll them again until you get a different result.”
1: “What do you mean poll them again?”
2: “Yes, ask them a different set of questions until you get a different result.”

  36. With fully stocked grocery stores and armed law enforcement in the United States of today, firearms are no longer the practical necessity they once were.

So no resisting tyranny then? You never figured out the real 2A? Commies keep those shelves stocked do they?

  37. Great…the writer of this article suffers from a child like syndrome. I call it “let’s play let’s pretend.” I mean REALLY?
Americans need to have all their guns taken away so that the police can stand around and wait while our children are massacred and take a knee while our cities burn.
Gun prohibitionists think that their lives are so much more important than police or military. They want THEM to protect them from bad guys even though they are never there when a bad guy is. They do not operate using reason, logic and common sense. They are IRRESPONSIBLE people who want someone ELSE to protect them rather than being responsible grown ups who are willing to learn and train to be able to protect themselves, their families and their neighbors. They will cower in a freezer in a grocery store or hide under a desk in a school while the customers are being massacred or the school children are being butchered by gunfire because they are COWARDS. They want SOMEONE ELSE to save their worthless lives and to be willing to protect THEM.

People like that are like children who properly EXPECT their mommy or daddy to protect them. CHILDREN shouldn’t have guns and yet I’d trust more children with them then these pitiful excuses of human beings who are so cowardly that they will refuse to defend their own selves from murders, rapists, robbers and politicians. (Did I just repeat myself?)
