“There’s crazy people out there and you don’t know who they are. They look like me and you and Joe Schmo from Kokomo. They don’t glow in the dark. That’s why you have to be prepared.” Sutherland Springs resident Lynn Robbins in ‘You have to be prepared’ Why the church shooting hasn’t changed rural Texans’ minds about guns [via cnn.com]

  1. I agree with this sentiment but there are ways to tell who might be planning some sort of attack, the same way you might spot a criminal like a mugger, pick pocket, gang banger etc… they all have cues, ways they dress, act, talk, behave. Profiling isn’t morally wrong. It’s a survival trait we developed over thousands of years of slugging it out as hunters and gathers, and later on slugging it out with eachother. These types of people also leave cues. These days they often leave cues of their intentions on social media and blogs, like this extremist atheist who spent much time spewing hatred against Christians online. It is also true, these mass killer types do tend to be left wing politically. They are often sad loners with no lives and live to bother others.

      • They do, but in certain circumstances I believe we could get “the drop on them”, so to speak, like with the GOP baseball attack. If I remember correctly, the guy milled around and asked people questions like, “is the republican game?” Before launching his attack. Also, with the Boston terrorists, who dressed down and moved through the crowd suspiciously to find the best place to drop their bomb. I guess what I’m trying to say is many of these types are socially akward and they telegraph this message with their behavior before their attack.

      • And psycho killers are often very, very good at convincing everyone around them, even medical professionals and law enforcement, as well as everyone else that they are perfectly normal and those bad things that keep happening are always someone else’s fault. Arguably, the less good ones are caught while the really good psycho killers are never found. I once saw a convicted stalker convince a talk-show host and audience that her victim was the bad guy and she was the innocent one. Even seeing it happen on live TV left me wondering how she’d managed to pull that one off, but it happened.

  2. Not only do we have to worry about petty criminals and Left wing nutjobs, the U.S. and Europe give out so many passports, residency cards, and refugee statuses that anyone on the street could have been sawing the heads off infidels or rival cartel members a couple of days ago somewhere else. It’s all one big happy killing field now so tool up accordingly.

  3. Lord Baden Powell (he was a British Ranger in his day and wrote a book on bushcraft with evolved into the Boy Scout Handbook) founded the Boy Scouts and gave them a motto.

    “Be Prepared.”

When he was asked prepared for what he replied “most anything.”

  4. We have much better tools to defend ourselves today. You don’t need to be able to swing a huge club or sword. Samuel Colt evened things up a bit. John Browning, Eugene Stoner, Mikhail Kalashnikov, Gaston Glock and a whole host of other men inspired by God, improved on what he did. All their work gave men and women who aren’t on the upper part of the curve in size and strength a chance against the men who are better able to wield a club or a sword. We have better mental health care, {when it is applied}, better communications, and we are better informed about threats. In the end it still comes down to availing ourselves of these improvements and taking the responsibility to look out for ourselves and those near and dear to us.

  5. You are encouraging other losers by publishing the Sunderland shooter’s picture. Please do give these mass murders notoriety by mentioning their names or publishing their pictures. nonotority.org

  6. Pat Buchanan was correct. There is and has been a cultural war going in the United States. The the L’s Libertarians Liberals and the Left try to focus everyone’s attention on sexual issues and away from guns or the failing education system or how the Welfare Industrial Complex destroys the traditional family.

He has been called a racist. He is not that. He is an honest man. But if you stand up for your gun civil rights, you are called “dangerous”, a racist, a hater, a homophobe, etc, etc.

  7. Sorry to be “that guy” but if that’s true that these people “expect the unexpected” and are all about being prepared, why wasn’t anybody in that church in rootin’ tootin’ shootin’ Texas armed?

  8. ” . . .why wasn’t anybody in that church in rootin’ tootin’ shootin’ Texas armed? . . .”

Well it’s an imperfect world, even in blessed Texas. But, despite our abundant flaws, we still have world-class bullshit detectors which means that our contempt for someone who takes pleasure in making light of the death of innocents will never be welcome here. Please go away.

  9. Please stop giving these murders the fame that they sought in death. You can tell their story in every way imaginable but please don’t use their photo or name. Tell us the names of their family members, where the lived, their favorite color, whatever you think is relevant, but deny him the notariety that he almost certainly wanted. Refer to him as the “Sutherland church shooter” or “the coward” if you must.

      • In total agreement “You kill one of us, we kill you back” to quote a comedian from Texas, Ron White in reference to Death Penalty. Oh Death row inmates linger there for 7 to 8 years not 10 to 15 years in some other states. Final meal is what the other convicts are getting, no more 5 to 6 items to delay the needle.
