From SAF . . .

The Second Amendment Foundation contends there were significant warning signs which should have prevented the suspected mass killer in Lewiston, Maine from having a firearm, and also notes the places where two fatal attacks occurred were essentially “gun-free zones,” making them easy targets.

“As we have noted in our educational ad campaign,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb, “gun-free zones essentially make the people in those places nothing more than sitting ducks in a shooting gallery.”

A sign at the door of the bowling alley says, “We kindly ask that you refrain from bringing firearms in this building and we would appreciate it if you left them in your vehicle. Please keep our atmosphere family friendly.” That notice did not stop the suspect from entering and opening fire.

“There is some speculation the Just-in-Time bowling alley and Schemengees Bar & Grille were targeted by the suspect,” Gottlieb said, “and we are waiting for confirmation from investigators. What is a certainty, however, is that the suspect has a recent history of mental health problems including spending two weeks in a mental health facility recently, after hearing voices and threatening to shoot up a military facility near the town of Saco. Under Maine’s ‘yellow flag’ law, there is a process for police to trigger which allows them to confiscate firearms from people at risk. There was no attempt to confiscate his firearms despite the warning signs.”

“As expected,” Gottlieb said, “the gun prohibition crowd—including President Joe Biden—immediately started banging the drum for more restrictions on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens who have harmed nobody. In fact, reports are surfacing that Maine residents have either armed themselves or have told the media they want to be armed.

“The suspect’s reported condition this past summer should have made him a prohibited person from gun possession,” Gottlieb stated. “The knee-jerk demands from anti-gunners, from Joe Biden on down, to penalize honest citizens amounts to a disgusting exploitation of a horrible tragedy for which one person alone is responsible. Disarming gun owners has never helped prevent a crime in the past, and it certainly won’t prevent tragedies in the future.”

  1. miner49er was just talking a couple of days ago about a white supremacist that murdered an entire muslim family here in the US. 4 people I believe.

He did it with his vehicle. Never fired a shot. Bad people are gonna bad people.

  2. Concealed everywhere because they don’t know. The only exception is if there is a metal detector then that place is off limits.

If I am there at least the dufus is going to get return fire. I think the penalty for carry in a prohibited area has to be less than death.

    • The reason these “Gun Free Zones” are most likely to become “Killing Zones” is because of what these mass shooters fear the most. These mass shooters don’t fear losing their lives. Most of them usually commit suicide immediately afterward anyway. No, what they fear the most, is not being able to achieve a high enough death count. They are more afraid of someone stopping them than they are of losing their own life. A high death count matters to them because of the notoriety they will receive for a high death count. They feel that the higher the death count the more famous they will become. Wacky Liberals either don’t understand this fact or they want more of these mass shootings so they can more easily achieve their goal of disarming the people and establishing a Liberal Tyranny

    • If the establishment discovers that you’re carrying, they can ask you to leave, (which you certainly should). If you don’t it becomes trespassing. That’s it.

      • That’s true in Texas, but it is NOT TRUE in many other states. If you are going to advise on such generalities, please check to be certain they are true. Each state makes its own firearm laws.

  3. That sign is the problem. It should say “All Murder Prohibited.”
The business really dropped the ball here.

    • This is exactly part of the problem. We have to make law to counteract unjust law and end up increasing the cost of a growing bureaucracy.

Rather than compounding problem ontop of problem…let’s just get rid of the gun free school zone. That way teachers could carry as they please without all the red tape.

      • Seems like you would have to drop the gun free school zone before paying teachers to carry. Just sayin’.

  4. ” Little balls, big balls, choose your weapon “.
… Just don’t bring a useful one into the establishment.

  5. In light of this incident and the terrorist attack in Israel, more Americans are waking up to the fact they are responsible for their own well being and self defense.
That little sign on the door is not going to stop the mentally ill or criminal from conducting murder.
I did read some pundit say, “Just run away and call 911.”

  6. This won’t stop until businesses that place those signs up are sued into oblivion. This isn’t a game, these signs are placing people in danger and it needs to be addressed.

  7. Horrible tragedy that one person is responsible for……..
    mmmmmm…….
me thinks more than one is to blame
the ones that put up the no guns signs
    the ones that obeyed them
the cops that didn’t use the yellow flag bs
the medical professionals that didn’t inform the cops
I’m sure there are more but that’s a few places to start

  8. Just goes to show us that idiots like Jared golden have no concept of what an assault weapon is , and fools such as Susan Collins who thinks a bump stock turns a semi auto into an auto, will use a tragedy born of mental and emotional distress to further libtardize America.

    allahu fubar

  9. Well, you could look at it 3 or 4 different ways, at least. This incident doesn’t ‘prove’ anything. Another argument we have to put up with is that us gun junkies will be able to save the country–protect democracy– in a coming political catastrophe. Not likely, either. For one thing, nobody’s gonna come out and say, ‘Okay, gals, this is the moment!’ The majority finds a lot odf solace in bragging.

  10. I carry a gun wherever I go. From a NAA revolver up to a ruger p89. And several of different sizes in between. Depending on the time of year and how I dress.
I’m never unarmed. In a “gun free” zone. I accept the responsibility and the consequences if I’m discovered.
    Freedom is messy.

    • P89 The Tank of the 90s. Still my favorite gun to carry. Started carrying it yesterday, as the weather is turning colder here. Same here on carrying. Concealed means concealed. Judged by 12, rather than carried by 6 is a viable statement. While I may face consequences, if it keeps my loved ones alive. So be it.
“I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery” is a translation of a Latin phrase that Thomas Jefferson used: “Malo periculosam, libertatem quam quietam servitutem.” It has also been translated as, “I prefer the tumult of liberty to the quiet of servitude.”

      • Yep, cold enough here in Mn. for a medium weight jacket, worn over my winter carry Witness CarryComp stuffed with 185 gr. 45Super handloads…. the size of the holes DOES matter more than the number of them you can make without a reload, which I also have with me.

  11. “That notice did not stop the suspect from entering and opening fire.”

But it *did* stop the nice family-types from maintaining the capacity to defend.

    Shocker.

  12. nabi-

“Well, you could look at it 3 or 4 different ways, at least.”

    Bullshit.

There’s the slaughtered point of view, and the slaughter-er’s point of view. You may think that is two, but it ain’t – it is just an abbatoir, killing zone, execution site, soft target – AKA gun free zone.

  13. Epsteindidnotkillhimself –

“That little sign on the door is not going to stop the mentally ill or criminal from conducting murder.”

Actually, it attracts them. Especially high score spree killers.

  14. This is why I smirk whenever someone screams the sky is falling when Red Flag laws are mentioned.

Obviously the are being underutilized not over

    • Underutilized or overutillized makes no difference. Without due process red flag laws are unconstitutional.
With luck the sky falls on you and crushes that stupid smirk off your face

    • Red flags are a violation of Civil Rights, which in turn is deemed by law to have an appropriate response level. Up to and including deadly force to defend said Rights. 4th Amendment, prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures without legal standing and the Right to face your accuser in court (part of the due process Tired refers to) is also violated by Red Flag.

Also dumbshit, Maine has as noted in the article a yellow flag law that was NOT used by law enforcement and would’ve prevented the situation were it employed. Red flag would’ve been equally ineffective, without the caveat of being in violation of existing Constitutional law that is backed with the Supremacy Clause. Jeez you leftards are uneducated morons.

  15. Turns out the Police had reports of this dick-weed’s ranting and threatening people over a month ago. They are claiming they could find him. Which is likely true, as they weren’t really trying very hard.

  17. gun (gŭn) free (frē) zone (zōn)

    * Trap in which people congregate and are falsely promised safety by a make believe force field of a ‘No Guns” prohibition.

    * A place where people are disarmed and not permitted self-defense with firearms.

    * Hunting grounds for predator criminals where defenseless prey is guaranteed by law.

    * Place where existing laws against violent crimes do not work to prevent violent crimes the laws are touted to be able to prevent.

    * Places designed to attract violently mentally ill predators.

    * Places where police forces cease to operate to protect before the fact of a violent crime as they are touted to be able to do by politicians implying.

  18. From Biden on down, it’s as though they want these tragedies to happen. They in turn push harder for gun control, disarming the populace. Time and again, mass shooters are known to the authorities but nothing is done beforehand. It’s said there is over 25k gun laws on the books. How we add another, to require that existing gun laws be enforced.

  20. I advise anyone who can legally carry a concealed handgun to ignore these signs prohibiting guns because signs never stop these mass shooters. It is much better to be tried by 12 than to be carried by 6.

    • I can pretty much guarantee that a poll of the six would result in exactly zero choosing afterwards to also NOT carry.
