From the AP . . .

A shooting at a Tennessee grocery store left one person dead and 12 others injured Thursday afternoon, and the shooter was subsequently found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at the store east of Memphis, authorities said.

Collierville Police Chief Dale Lane said the shooting broke out at a Kroger store in his suburban community about 30 miles (50 kilometers) east of Memphis. He said 13 people in all were shot and the 12 of them were taken to hospitals, some with very serious injuries.

He said a police SWAT team and other officers went aisle to aisle in the store to find people who sought cover or were in hiding, removing them to safety. He said the shooter was also found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“We found people hiding in freezers, in locked offices. They were doing what they had been trained to do: run, hide, fight,” the chief said.

The identities of the shooter and the victims were not immediately released.

Lane said it was a sad day for his department as he spoke at a news conference after the shooting near the scene.

“I’ve been involved in this for 34 years and I’ve never seen anything like it,” he told reporters.

He added investigators are working to sort out what happened, adding, “It’s going to take a little bit before we know what happened.”

    • ” He was on the radar “. Which translates to ” We need the number of shooting increased so people will give up their rights for safety”. And will get neither.

        • “Well… the Arizona audit results come out tomorrow, gotta have a distraction.“

Yes, the Arizona audit is out.

Consider the possibility that this mass shooting was engineered by Republican conservatives in order to divert attention from the failed Arizona audit, which confirmed Joseph Biden’s Presidential victory:

“The draft report emerged Thursday night, and audit spokesman Randy Pullen confirmed its validity to KJZZ Phoenix. “It’s not the final report, but it’s close,” he said.
The draft report shows that the hand recount found that President Joe Biden received 99 more votes than Maricopa County had reported after November’s election, while former President Donald Trump received 261 fewer votes than the county reported.
Maricopa County’s Republican-led board of supervisors pointed to the draft Thursday night, saying that it underscores the reality that the county ran an accurate election.
“You don’t have to dig deep into the draft copy of the Arizona Senate/Cyber Ninja audit report to confirm what I already knew — the candidates certified by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, Governor, Secretary of State and Attorney General — did, in fact, win,” board chairman Jack Sellers, a Republican, said in a statement.“

        • @Miner49er Lol, now you like the AZ audit, even though the media industrial complex and the left were rushing to condemn it merely months before. I guess it’s like the jab, hated it when Trump admin helped developed it, love it when Biden admin is forcing it. But being here in AZ, I wouldn’t be surprised if Biden actually did carry the state, although narrowly. We’ve been inundated by leftists from CA who apparently don’t understand they crapped where they eat, and pair that with the never-Trumper McCainites that dominate AZ politics for so long, it could have gone either way. That being said, my only problem with the audit was that the Senate cucked out and dropped the requirements matching votes to the households. If anything, hopefully it kicks the AZGOP into being more proactive and maybe use the same tactics the party of Donkeys are using to fortify the election.

        • “now you like the AZ audit“

Nope, I’ve always thought the audit was a partisan exercise by incompetent individuals with no experience whatsoever in election audits. And the fact that the cyber-ninnies concealed their methodology and ‘donors’ is antithetical to the very idea of a Government of, for and by the People.

What I do agree with is the fact that the results confirm the multiple audits by the Republican controlled election commission in Maricopa county.

          Biden won, Trump lost.

I knew this would be the outcome, because the cyber ninjas faced serious legal peril if they had fabricated the results. If the Arizona senate had ordered and participated in an ‘audit’ that falsified the numbers, they and their co-conspirators would’ve been guilty of federal election tampering and faced decades in prison.

You can expect the same from the other ‘audits’; as trump’s internal memorandums show, even Donald Trump and his accomplices knew the election was fair and impartial.

        • 17K duplicate ballots…more than enough to change the results. That leaked report yesterday was at best incomplete, and at worst complete nonsense.

        • ““disgruntled employee” gun owner”

Disgruntled employee who chose a gun from the meriad of possible tools/means.

There you go, fixed it for you.

Would you feel better if he chained all the doors and pulled a “Milton”?
          Or used a bladed weapon?
Or poisoned a water cooler in the break room?
Or fabricated a pressure cooker device a la Boston Marathon?
Or parked a truck loaded with fertilizer and diesel fuel in front of the store?
Or released something he concocted out of castor beans?
I could easily list dozens more.

These TTAG morons make statements like the gun is the root cause of violence. THE PROBLEM IS THE PERSON COMMITING THE MURDER YOU IDIOT, NOT THE TOOL CHOSEN TO COMMIT THE ATROCITY.

Blaming/banning guns just insures thay victims have no effective means of of stopping/minimizing the carnage these monsters can perpetrate on their victims.

Congratulations, you and lil d are the two biggest fvckwit to ever post comments to TTAG.

  1. Cool I was wondering if we would be hearing about another mass shooting today… Kroger was somewhat gun friendly (asking shoppers to refrain from “open” carry) until a 2018 incident in Louisville Ky when they decided to go gun free zone… How’s THAT working out for you?

      • Yeah, too much about Russian shooters takes away the gun grabbers talking points about “Assault Rifles” and “only happens in America”…

      • True, NOT, gun free but Kroger has “requested” that customers do not carry firearms in their stores… Guess this clown missed the memo… This might be the catalyst to push them over the edge, for all the good it would do…

        • Who would I talk to in order to “request” that Kroger refrain from allowing crazed killers in their stores, whether they have guns or not?

        • Who would I talk to in order to “request” that Kroger refrain from allowing crazed killers in their stores,

          Kroger CEO Rodney McMullen

        • I’m sure that there is an implied request that customers refrain from shooting other customers unnecessarily should they decline to refrain from carrying firearms in the store, as doing so does tend to decrease in the overall enjoyment of the shopping experience. Of course, Kroger’s cannot specifically SAY that they’d prefer that their customers not shoot other customers, because then it would be implied that customers MIGHT shoot other customers with guns that they are requested not to carry in the stores, which we all know is impossible because customers requested to NOT carry guns in the stores most assuredly do NOT carry guns in the stores, including crazed killers, who by the way are instantly deterred by requests and signs requesting them not to be crazed killers, and so do not act upon their crazed-killer proclivities

All of this makes perfect sense, does it not?

    • I used to live in Omaha, Nebraska up until Halloween, 2019. Kroger owns the dominant local supermarket chain, Bakers. I looked carefully at different stores for No Guns signs, which have the force of law in Nebraska, and never found any. I can’t say for sure what’s happened since I left but I’d be very surprised (and disappointed) if Bakers has gone No Guns.

  2. hmmmmm…a very bad week or two for the biden (obama) admin…a Convenient Mass shootin’… well what do ya know…who could’ve ever guessed…

  3. Colorado Kings Soopers (Kroger) says no open carry. CCW is still legal.

We go to a King Soopers with only one main customer entrance. I always go with my wife and position myself just inside the door off to the side.

If they change the policy I will still carry. You’ll never know unless something happens.

    • Agree 100%. The King Soopers here in Southern Colorado have the same “request.” As I understand Colorado’s Carry Laws, unless a very visible sign is conspicuously posted at the entrances, their “Policy/Request” does not have the weight of the Law behind it. As it stands, they can call to have you removed from the premises, but there’s not any legal charge a Court should recognize in the absence of a posted sign. It’s only in the presence of a Posted Sign, that the law can then charge one for violating the store’s policy.

I CC so I don’t worry about it.

  4. Why is it necessary for a progun site to note the illegal use of firearms? Write about the use of guns for self defense (several million times per year/not that hard to find)

  5. Around 1:30 p.m. CT, Collierville Communications Center received a 911 call about an active shooter at the Kroger, Lane told reporters outside the store. The department’s first patrol car arrived four minutes later and other units began to flood the area, according to the chief.

  6. Could have run something about this, seems a little bit more important than some dumbass getting pissed because they sliced his baloney too thin…

The 2022 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) contains a provision allowing military courts to issue orders restraining military personnel from “possessing, receiving, or otherwise accessing a firearm.”

  7. Doesn’t fill the definition for a mass shooting.

Any one offering odds on how Bloomies Witches in Red or Gabby’s Goons will report it?

    • Everybody has a different definition for a “mass whatever”. Seems like this might be a mass shooting, certainly not a mass murder.

    • Wrong. An official ‘Mass Shooting’ is designated as any incident where a gun was involved and 4 or more people got injured and/or dead. If a gun was fired and 4 people got trampled or fell while running, it is still considered a mass shooting. Check CNN for more details.

    • “Doesn’t fill the definition for a mass shooting“

So your contention is that 15 people shot in the space of a few minutes does not equal a ‘mass shooting’?

Tragically comic, conservative redefining terms once again to support their narrative.

      • Not re-defining anything. I try to provide correct definitions and word usage. Unlike you, I do not have arbitrary definitions to support my “narrative” (as you so quaintly put it) that I pick and choose from according to the political winds of the day, hour, minute.

Quoted from the U.S. Dept of Justice website: “The FBI defines a “mass shooting” as any incident in which at least four people are murdered with a gun.”

I don’t believe that I am “tragically comic”…however, I do have my moments of humor. You are correct in that I am a fiscal Conservative.

  8. This is why you always carry a gun. And train with it. I measured the distance of my local food store aisles. They were 90 feet long. And 3 days ago I was at the range shooting at the 25 yard target. 35 hits out of 50. I started regular long distance shooting over a year ago.

  9. This an odd one.

Who attacks a grocery store? Who even thinks to do that? What’s the motivation? I guess person was just wacked, maybe revenge?… I dunno.

    • Started at the Deli. By God that’ll teach the deli crew not to forget to bake the damn Birthday Cake next time.

  10. When you have a gun, revenge against a co worker or ex can easily turn into a mass shooting. If you love guns, you have to acknowledge the problems too.

    • Would you feel better if he used a vest bomb?
Or spiked the break room water cooler with poison?
News flash, evil people do evil stuff.
The gun is an inatimate objects, it’s NOT the root cause.
Ever stop to think that for every life taken with a gun today, over 20 lives were SAVED by a gun. 🤔

    • Really? If you honestly think that is the truth, you need to IMMEDIATELY seek professional psychiatric help, you are a sick mofo. Revenge against a coworker or ex might, in the extreme, consist of a paper bag full of shit set afire on the porch before ringing the doorbell. If you are going to post such garbage, you have to acknowledge YOUR problems, too. Your statement was over-the-edge batshit crazy.

      • “Revenge against a coworker or ex might, in the extreme, consist of a paper bag full of shit set afire on the porch before ringing the doorbell”

        You really believe that?

I assure you, there are thousands of people who would disagree, including slain employees and dead girlfriends/wives, if they were still alive.

    • Does a gun feel emotion? Or is it the person? If you’re gonna chastise good people who don’t go off and murder, maybe you should acknowledge you don’t think things through as well as you pretend you do.

      • Colonel Travis, a good guy with a gun is apparently only ‘a bad day’ away from becoming a bad guy with a gun.

And speaking of chastising an individual, your choice of Colonel Travis as your moniker reveals much about your character.

Your Colonel Travis was a loser, a complete failure who attempted to escape his debts by claiming he was still a child, even though he was married. But he apparently had enough money to buy himself some slaves:

“On February 27, 1829, Travis passed his law examination and received permission to legally practice, so he borrowed $55.37 to open a law office,[12] as well as $90 earlier in the year to help pay for the Herald.[13] Now in debt and with no practical income, he took in three boarding students, and to help Rosanna with the workload, he purchased two slaves. Maintaining the slaves increased his expenses, pushing Travis further into debt.“

And he capped his sad career off by commanding the men at the Alamo in a losing fight that ended with their deaths.

I guess he never heard GEN Patton’s advice regarding making the other poor son of a bitch die for his country…

  11. What’d yah mean yah cant eat’em?
I’ll tell yah why, the cops always haul em off in the meat wagon for themselves.

  12. This is why Republican states with non nonsensical gun laws like Tennessee should learn from CT, MA, NY, MD, CA, HI, and all the other Democrat run states that employ 10 round magazine laws. The whole point of limiting magazine clip size in your gun is so when the mass shooter stops to reload, brave people around who have been trained under the DHS “run-hide-fight” plan, can rush him and tackle him down, preventing further bloodshed. 10 was chosen as a compromise between lawful use and ridiculous excess. No one needs more than 10 just like no one truly needs and AR15. Do you need 60 bullets you can shoot as fast as you can pull the trigger when hog hunting? No. How about 60 bullets in your gun to defend your home from an intruder? When the average defensive gun use is 3 shots fired, why do you need that many?

It’s a shame 12 people were shot. It could have been 10 or MUCH less.

    • You are ignoring the main purpose of the Second Amendment. It is for the people to defend themselves against a tyrannical government. It is not for hunting, gun collecting, or sport shooting.

    • Nikolas Cruz, the Parkland shooter, used 10-round magazines because bigger ones wouldn’t fit in his backpack.

    • As someone who has been in a gun fight before I can tell you that I have/will draw a second gun if I am using a hand gun during a gun fight as opposed to reloading one.

The Virginia Tech shooter in 2007 used a purse full of 10 round Glock magazines and that didn’t stop him from killing 32 people and shooting an extra 17 that survived being shot.

If I wanted to kill everyone in a grocery store I would simply glue or chain the exit doors closed and then start the building on fire. The man that killed 87 people in the Happy Land nightclub fire in 1990 did exactly that. Do you remember a man named Timothy McVeigh? With a shoestring budget of about $5,000 he brought down a building, killed nearly a hundred and seventy people and scared the livin bejeebies out of the feds. And I shouldn’t have to mention the greatest mass murderer of school children at a school in the United States that was perpetrated by the School Board treasurer at the school when he killed 38 children and six adults in 1927 in what has become known as The Bath School disaster. Last but not least let’s discuss the greatest mass shooting in US history; the one perpetrated by the United States Army on unarmed men women and children at the Sandy Creek Massacre.

My point is when someone has murder in their heart they will find a way.

    • Standard mag for my 10mm G29 is 10 rounds (I prefer the G20 mag which gives me 16 plus 1 with the extended floor plate) I can change mags and be in battery in about 1.5 seconds, how many DHS trained “heroes” will I catch in the open attempting to rush me no matter which mag I have in the gun….

    • The shooter was most likely an anti gun democrat voter. So go fuck yourself. Too bad you weren’t at the Kroger Deli

    • “..Do you need 60 bullets you can shoot as fast as you can pull the trigger when hog hunting?…”

Yep! Actually need more than that because the authorities won’t allow claymores.

“…just like no one truly needs and AR15…”

Actually agree with this. What I need is a M249 SAW! Hogs is fast critters, but again the authorities makes these crazy expensive to own so I guess we are all stuck with the AR platform.

..sigh..c’mon trolls, go drink some coffee or something.

      • because the authorities won’t allow claymores.

Yeah, well the “authorities” don’t “allow” you to do 80 in a 65 mph zone either but I never let THAT stop me… It’s amazing the stuff you can come up with to mimic military anti-personnel weapons (even using air pressure instead of explosives) I guess I’m just a “MOSTLY” law abiding gun owner…

    • So tell me, what is the definition of a “magazine clip”? Is it similar to a barrel muzzle, or perhaps a receiver frame? Is that where you put cartridge rounds that contain those bullet projectiles?

      Inquiring minds want to know.

    • No one needs to have a penis that is a foot long and as thick as a beer can. Obviously; rather than actually enforce the laws against rape, we should prohibit possession of large caliber, high capacity assault penises that can fire dozens of rounds without reloading. Men should be restricted to small caliber, short barrelled, single shot, Saturday Night Specials that are prone to misfire or discharge prematurely.

      • I find it fascinating Elmer, that you are thinking of other people’s penises.

I mean, I’m thinking how good my coffee is this morning and what my plans for the day hold.

But Elmer is thinking about men’s penises, how strange.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that, whatever floats your boat.

        • “I find it fascinating Elmer, that you are thinking of other people’s penises.”

Maybe he’s relating his own personal issues…

“Not that there’s anything wrong with that, whatever floats your boat.”

Then why bother to comment on it, no one else seems to be concerned about it… Hmmmmmm

        • You must admit, it is unusual for a man to display his interest in other men’s penises on a public forum.

But this is a forum labeled ‘The Truth About GUNS’…

I have always heard, ‘This is my rifle (shake shake), this is my gun (shake shake), one is for fighting, one is for fun!

  13. Current reporting:

“Authorities identified the suspected gunman Friday as UK Thang, 29, a third-party vendor for Kroger.

Collierville Police Department Chief Dale Lane said in a press briefing Friday that a total of 15 people were shot, including 70-year-old Olivia King who died from her wounds, and are in stable condition.

Ten of the victims shot were Kroger employees and five were customers, Lane said.

Lane confirmed that the suspected shooter was a lone gunman. He had some minor charges in his criminal history. “I believe misdemeanor arrests but nothing related to violence,” Lane said.”

  14. “Witnesses told the Daily Memphian that the shooting “began in the deli area and described the gunman as having dark hair and dark eyes. Some reported that he was carrying a military-style rifle.”

  15. So how do we account for this death, was this person a martyr to our Second Amendment rights?

Should we just accept this death as unavoidable, the price of ‘freedom’?

“The Commercial Appeal reported that, according to resident David Fraser, King was a window with three sons, including one in the Navy and one in the Air Force. She was a devout Catholic who had worked as a school secretary, the newspaper reported.

A friend wrote on Facebook, “Please pray for my dear friend Olivia King and her amazing sons and family. I will miss her terribly. Pray for our Town and all of our First Responders, many many years of training was put to the test today and they did an remarkable job, it could have been so much worse. Continue to pray for several others who were shot and are currently in surgery. Pray for the health care providers. Pray for the Kroger employees. Pray for Collierville!”

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/heavy.com/news/olivia-king/amp/

    • So how do we account for this death, was this person a martyr to our Second Amendment rights?

No, this person was the victim of a senseless crime committed by an unstable individual who just happened to use a gun to carry out his objective… Stuff is going to happen no matter what laws, regulations or even bans you put in place… So, are you suggesting that I (a “mostly” law abiding citizen) should give up MY rights to self protection because 15 other “citizens decided NOT to take advantage of theirs? ONE “good guy with a gun” could have prevented a lot of carnage and possibly the death of your “martyr”…

    • I don’t know Miner, you tell us. Maybe we should let the government heavily restrict the first amendment if it would only “save one life”. Or quarter troops into private residence to protect us from ourselves. Or get rid of the 4th and 5th amendment because private property and speedy trials are too dangerous. Now that I think of it, why do you need to know your accuser or have a jury trial? If you trust the government so much, no need to restrain them against cruel and unusual punishment either. And while we are at it, just have big Fed control you like a malevolent Sauron from DC and ignore the 9th and 10th amendment. I mean it will suck, but no more martyrs for individual rights am I right?

    • The perp’s name was “UK Thang.” No doubt a “replacement Amerikan” brought in by your fellow Leftist/GOPe travelers in the Deep State. Enjoy your brand new Third World Shithole, moron.

      • “No doubt a “replacement Amerikan” brought in by your fellow Leftist/GOPe travelers“

        Really?

“The shooter’s parents live in Nashville and are part of a community of Christian refugees from Myanmar who have settled there, according to Aung Kyaw, a friend of the family who came to pray with them at their home on Friday.”

Maybe you are right, we should definitely stop the entry of these “Christian refugees”.

        • “Christian refugees from Myanmar”

Hey fvckwit whiner? Has the killer ever referred to himself as (INSERT GEOGRAPHIC REGION/RACE/SKIN COLOR OR SHADE/RELIGION)-American? Ex; Myanmar-American.

Until we know more about the shooter, Carl B just might just be 100% correct.

Reality; Those who place any sort of identifier before “American”, are NOT AMERICAN.
They support NOTHING that non hyphenated America/Americans value.
In some instances, the refugees who lash out with violence have come to realize that making a successful living in the US takes hard work and dedication. It’s not gotten through a government handout or program, or by voting for elected officials that look like you.

Those using hyphens in the US are doing little more then playing victim status games or “driving the bus” to gain the American systems.

To those using geographic hyphens, you need to go back to the hyphenated location you place ahead of America, and start making the sausage.
Don’t come here and eat the sausage that’s already prepared, all the while acknowledging your strong allegiance to another country between bites. Worse yet, talk sh!t about this country.

Do you wave a foreign flag or burn the US flag?
News flash, this is not China or North Korea.
          YOU ARE FREE TO LEAVE.

    • “So how do we account for this death, was this person a martyr to our Second Amendment rights?”

Just when I thought “gee whiz, ya just can’t make this stuff up”, I see this snappy one liner.
