CNN is reporting that two people have been wounded in a school shooting in New Mexico. The 12 year old who committed the crime walked into school, whipped out a shotgun, and wounded two people before a staff member confronted him and stopped him. According to a terrified pre-teen witness that Piers Morgan was pumping for information the shooter had been bullied at school. No additional information was available at the time, but as a recent Washington Examiner article points out mass shootings are on the decline. Piers Morgan isn’t having any of it, and is currently interviewing a law enforcement officer who is flatly disputing Piers’ opinion that gun control is the only solution. One would think that the LEO would be the subject matter expert in this case, but obviously Piers’ years of experience in law enforcement is superior. Oh, wait…

  2. I heard he used his band instrument case to bring it into the school, I wonder if he played a trombone?

      • I meant I’ve been shopping thrift shops looking for a cheap instrument to use the case for a condo to car carry unit and a trombone case would be long enough to conceal most long guns.

        • A trombone case mounted on 15″ wheels being towed behind the minivan won’t attract any attention.

        • There are “guitar” cases specifically set up for long guns. They have gun shaped grooves and pockets on the edges of the wide part to hold accessories.

        • Notice I said thrift shop and cheap LOL. I have seen the tennis racket case at gander mountain for $69.

    • Trivia: Did you know that pump-action rifles were called trombone action by most westerners until the late 1950’s. I came across it in a book by the hunter Elmer Keith and thought “what action is that?” Trombone action is definitely a more amusing name. Next time I pump an 870 I’m going to think of a trombone riff. Hell.

      • The term trombone dates back to the 13 century and was Italian for “big trumpet”. However when the instrument was imported to France they called it the Sacbutte (Sacbut in 18th centrury England) which roughly translated into “push pull”.

        • I can’t help it: That means my 870, which I rack with a pull, then a push, is a ButteSac or BoneTrom. Slightly more seriously, do they sell locking trombone cases?

      • Yes, they sell trombone cases with locks. Granted they are not TSA approved, but for basic transport of a firearm, they would be just fine. Most decent level cases will come with key locks. However, a decent trombone case is $200+.

        • I’ve got TSA-approved metal cases. I’m going to look for a trombone case. My neighbors will think I’ve gone back to music. I’ll compare it with guitar cases. Thanks for the info. Locking is a plus.

  3. This is another area I have issues with when it comes to zero tolerance policies. Someone who is bullied is not able to defend themselves for fear of being suspended right along with the bully. How the hell are they supposed to learn to take up for themselves if they are punished for taking up for themselves? Now by no means do I condone his actions, but something is broken and needs to be fixed. Zero tolerance policies are a good place to start.

      • Some kids are terrified of “getting in trouble” even if it means being bullied. I was suspended twice for taking up for them.

      • +1 I was suspended a few times for standing up for my self. Zero F’s were given. I wasn’t bullied afterwards lol

      • Thanks to a number of asinine zero tolerance policies, “a few bloody noses” can gain a student expulsion and possible referral to law enforcement. It is much harder to stand up for yourself in today’s environment.

        • I have been saying this for years. Back when I was a kid and you got in a fight at school you got detention, maybe suspended for a few days and depending on what the fight was about likely additional punishment at home. I got bullied heavily through most of my school career and did not fight back just out of fear of getting in trouble. Once I finally did retaliate I got a couple detentions and the bullying almost completely stopped. Problem solved.

          These days if you get in a fight at school one of the first people you talk to is a police officer and there is a very real possibility that you will end up in front of a judge for punching the kid once who has been stealing your lunch money for the last 7 years. When you give a troubled young mind full of swirling hormones a choice between A) try to retaliate and hopefully you don’t get your @$$ kicked, but get kicked out of school and maybe go to jail either way . . . or B) just shoot them, you won’t get beat up and still go to jail . . . the punishments can appear identical when viewing them through welled up tears every day. I am in no way trying to justify the later option, far from it. But we loose the right to act surprised when the punishment for both is close enough to appear identical to a troubled mind. 50/50 chance which decision they will make once they decide to make one.

  4. What I wanna’ know is how the flying fuck he got hold of a shotgun in the first place. I might sensing some measure of complacency somewhere with the boy’s family.

    • Or “Wha? I thought that was supposed to be a gun-free zone! That sign was supposed to keep everyone safe and my mail-order real flying unicorn should be arriving any minute!”

  7. It seems like everyone is using a shotgun to commit these sorts of crimes nowadays… I wonder what could have inspired that weapon choice?

    • How many more people have to be killed and wounded before Joe Biden retracts his statement?

      When reached for comment, Vice-President Biden asked, “People are listening to me?”

  9. Be afraid of those shotgun assault weapons. On a different note, are there more school shootings now then say 10 years ago? Or is there just more coverage? These type of things give the dissarment crowd more ammo if you will excuse the pun.

    • There’s definite much more coverage, and an organized gaggle pushing for the coverage.

      Haven’t seen anything today about SWAT booster retired cop shooting the text messager in the FL movie theater. Did, uh, Piers cover it today?

      • Also to consider: Our population has doubled in fifty years or so. Twice as many folks, equals twice as many shootings, other thing being equal.

  12. To be fair, being law enforcement doesn’t make one an expert on the issue of gun violence, and the opinion of law enforcement greatly depends on what law enforcement they are. Your big city police chiefs, for example, are almost always very pro-gun control. They have to be due to the fact that they could be fired by the mayor or demoted by the city council. Your sheriffs by contrast tend to be much more pro-gun rights because the people in the rural areas where they are elected tend to be more pro-gun.

    Some police chiefs in particular have said some real whoppers about the issue of guns.

    • I’ll second this. When I was in college, all the police officers I knew were for CCW on the college campus. The chief, however, was very against it.

      Also learned how to build a CA legal AR-15 from one of those guys.

  14. Another parental failure…good thing they’ve got a scapegoat they can lay blame on.

    This “I’ve been bullied” stuff is starting to irk me. Yes bullying is bad, but making such a big media deal about it just sets up an entitlement culture because the media has convinced the parents and children that being bullied is equivalent to the persecution of the Jews. It sets up in the bullied kids minds that the event is so significant that the only response is murder.

    • I have psychological trauma from being bullied. I several times wanted to kill them. But decided against it, I am going to be more succesfull than them. Why ruin it by killing somebody lesser than me?

      But I agree, the “murder is only option” mindset is only good if you are being persecuted (jews, Bosnians, Tutsis etc.).

  15. Anyone else notice that LEOs claim the kid used a 22 gauge shotgun? Exactly where did he get a “22 gauge” shotgun?

  16. Here it is, “New Mexico State Police Chief Pete Kassetas said late Tuesday that the shooter used a 22-gauge shotgun. The Albuquerque Journal reported that the suspect allegedly sawed off the gun’s wood stock, put it in the bag and snuck it into school.” courtesy of FoxNews.

  18. So what kind of gun was it? The press and the police don’t seem to know.

    No disrespect to the staffer who confronted the kid, but if the gun was an O/U shotgun, then it was empty after the two shots.
