In the end, we left the nearly impossible job of picking the three winners in our Can Can Concealment give-away contest to the people at Can Can. The task was just too daunting. We’d received over 100 entries from women all over the country. And heaters? We saw them all, from little pink wheel guns to big bad Barretts. And some even bigger. In fact, Can Can was so impressed with the entries that they’re giving all of the women who sent in a pic a 10% discount on their products (email with discount code to follow). So here are Can Can’s three faves. The first winner, above, is Tonya M., about whom Can Can said, “Practice, practice, practice with eye and ear protection and good form! She’s self-confident and up for the challenge. Look out world!” Next up . . .

Erin L. is winner number two and Can Can wrote, “Seamless transition from AR to sidearm and ready for the recoil. This stylishly tactical gal is ready for any apocalypse—zombie or otherwise!”

  2. There were a LOT of great entries. Congrats to the winners.

    I look at the first two and mostly think “Thank God I’m not the only one left that shoots Weaver….”

    • You’re not. I shoot Weaver. I won’t shoot Isosceles. It makes people look like they’re taking a dump with their pants on.

      • For me, I’ve settled on a Weaver, stance, with my left foot just a bit ahead of my right, but not much, in a sort of “at ready” stance, with both arms locked out in front of me. It eliminates as many possible variables with my shooting stance. Works for me.

      • I too prefer Weaver, but then I’m old-school or worse with a rifle. I probably get some looks at the range standing with my AR on the line, bladed to the target, hip forward, left elbow at my side and left wrist feeling naked without a tensioned hasty sling.

    • Ah the ol’ Weaver vs. anything else schtick! Love it.
      Try this experiment. Settle into your favorite stance, squared up on your target. Now, without moving your feet, turn as far right as you can to engage another target. If you’re right-handed, you will eventually find yourself in a “reverse Weaver.” Now try it to the left, even if you started in Isoceles or a variant, you’ll end up in something Weaveresque. Now, engage something far above the horizontal plane – you’ll be shooting Isoceles. Same thing if you are shooting down at an angle.

      Folks — it really doesn’t matter which arm you push or pull or whatever. Off the square range it really matters not, once you’re beyond the very basics of marksmanship, just develop a stable platform for the gun and then adapt on the fly as your position changes. Or as Brian Enos might say, “Float the gun.”

      • A wise man once told me “Ten years from now nobody will care what stance you used, what caliber you used, or even what gun you used. All they will care about is who won. And if you’re around to tell the story, you won and the rest of it doesn’t really matter.”

        I wasn’t trying to kick off a stance war, honest. I didn’t even know there WAS a stance war. If I had I’d have used it to troll a long time ago….

        • I think this is where I say that it is known that .40 S&W is the only appropriate caliber for every situation, and everyone who carries or shoots anything else is either delusional (for smaller calibers) or compensating for something (larger calibers).

          It is known.

        • I agree, my .45 is compensating. For the insufficient stopping power of the .40 🙂

          Ah, loves me a good, snarky caliber war…

  3. Congrats to the winners. There really were a lot of great entries. Usually there at least one or two standouts in stuff like that is that I’m pretty sure are going to win from the moment I see them. With this contest, my opinion updated with nearly every photo I saw.

      Oh, and if that didn’t seem to make sense, it’s because that photo of Erin was one of a series of 4 that came together, only one of which went up on the Facebook page. Quite a few folks sent in more than one. Yes, including that one.

  7. Kind of a nice break to the normal parade of stuffy politicians and frothing activists. I typically start my days surly since I started reading TTAG. With an occasional post like this, surly gets nudged aside in favor of … I dunno. Something else.

    • I try to keep the Digest light, in part because depressing is, well, depressing, but also because since it doesn’t go up ’til 10 p.m., more than half the views come the next day. I know some people are starting their day with it, and it wouldn’t be nice to drag them down.

      • Actually, I really dig the digest, too. It’s a good end of the day compilation because it tends to be light and there are several bits in there to chew on. You guys have good structure around here. Great balance.

  12. congrats to the winners. . . . I had a picture of my 8 and 6 yr old daughters cleaning my glock, but my wife said “hell no” to put their picture out in public (she even gets mad when I show people privately) b/c she is worries about being ostracized as a “gun nut family”. . . .. even though the boss has her CCW, she is a work in progress.

    • My husband is very private and doesn’t appreciate photos of me or the kids going out “in public” … it’s really not a bad policy 😉

      I’d still love to enter, you guys would be wow’d by my huge guns (and no, I am not talking about hardware! LOL)

  14. My wife is the girl in the pink shirt with the Saiga .223 AK, near the bottom of the photos. My young son Sam (who was born last month) was just three months along in that photo – I say we’re getting him started with the sport very early!

    I have a Nodak Spud receiver on order to build him his very first Bulgarian AK this summer 🙂

  17. Marge – AKA Granny Oakley – says thanks for all of the “Likes”. She’s a classy lady – 4″10″ tall – and pretty good with the Ruger SIngle Six on her hip. The coach gun in the picture is actually a little much for her even with low brass field loads so her go to war long gun is a Ruger 10/22.

    A gentleman doesn’t tell a lady’s age so I’ll just say that Give em Hell Harry was president when she was born. We’ll be married 38 years in June and she’s never given me a bad day. I, on the other hand, have given her plenty but she still puts up with me.

    And thanks TTAG for the pics on the Facebook page- really neat to see all the entries- role models all.

    Beauty is more than skin deep, of course, and what I notice about all these Women of the Gun is the quality of character that shines through. Something to do with self-reliance, integrity, defiance of PC conventions…devoted to their own self-defense, and that of their family- you are not going to see a burkha on these babes, that’s for sure.

    I guess that’s what makes Women of the Gun, far more interesting, and attractive than the sad, wan Julia’s, and Lena’s, and Shannon’s of the left’s liberal plantation, and even poor Gabby Gifford, slaves all to their minders, “Those Who Know Whats Best For The Rest of Us”.
