A home invader who was attempting to impersonate a police officer has met his maker in Anderson, Indiana. A neighbor’s video surveillance system caught Jeffery Flowers, 40, playing the Big Bad Wolf as he forced open the back door to a home while shouting “POLICE.”

Seconds later, you can hear two shots ring out which terminated both the home invasion and the offender.

Fox59 has the story:

An Anderson woman shot and killed a man suspected of breaking into her home overnight.

911 dispatchers received a call from a female homeowner in the 1300 block of E. 8th Street around 12:47 a.m. The woman told police there was a break-in at the home, and she shot the suspected burglar.

By the time police arrived, they found the alleged suspect dead in an upstairs bedroom.

With home surveillance cameras rolling, prosecutors insist a man forced his way into the woman’s home.

“Neighbors had videos of him parking in front of the residence and looking through windows, ultimately breaking through the door and pulling a weapon out,” said Madison County Prosecutor Rodney Cummings.

The Madison County coroner later identified the man killed as 40-year-old Jeffery Flowers.

The break-in was caught on video (it begins at about the 2:00 mark) . . .

Flowers’ attempt to force the door alerted the resident and she accessed her firearm. On the third attempt to force the door, Flowers made entry, shouting, “Police! Get back!”

Twenty-four seconds after breaking in, the homeowner shot Flowers. She later went to a neighbor’s house. When the actual police eventually arrived, they found Mr. Flowers dead right there.

As even more people choose to buy and learn to use firearms, activities like home invasion become increasingly dangerous for the perps. Mr. Flowers won’t be a recidivist. And incidents like this illustrate quite clearly that when you need a real police officer, he’s only a few minutes away.

We’re glad the homeowner escaped the attack relatively unscathed and have awarded her our defensive gun use of the day title.

  2. I thought announcing “POLICE” was supposed to invoke some magical barrier that prevents occupants from shooting or defending themselves.

    • Agreed. Part of being serious is a security system and reinforced doors.

      5:45 – The masked home invader enters the backyard.
      6:05 – The home invader begins ramming the door open. It takes the home invader 6 seconds and 3 attempts to forcibly break into the home.
      6:11 – The Home invader yells “Police! Get down!” as he enters the home.
      6:32 – The homeowner fires two shots terminating their encounter with the home invader.
      9:41 – The first squad car arrives
      10:15 – Police make contact with a person at the scene (Homeowner?)

      Without any security, the homeowner had 6 seconds warning before their door was broken through. Even if there had been a security notifier on the gate and/or a motion sensor in the back yard, this home was breached and the homeowner’s life was in danger within 26 seconds of the earliest possible warning. What would have benefited the homeowner most, IMO is a system like door devil, or anything really that would make it harder to break down the door in the first place. Even a chain lock on the screen porch would have given another 2-3 seconds.

      The police response time was exemplary, just 3 minutes and 35 seconds after the encounter began.

      Never forget that you are your own first responder. This could have ended very differently.

      • I have 18 gauge metal (can be bought at local hardware store)… actually,2 pieces…on front and back door frames.4′ long, screw’s to door frame and has a 1″ 90 degree lip that wraps around outside of door making it extremely difficult to kick solid Oak door.Screw driver to push the actual door lock to the side… forget it.Plus the deadbolt… like I said forget it.The amount of time it would take to get in either door, even if not at home… I’d have time to get there with camera security I have around entire property plus 2 dim to bright security flood lights for nightime.

  4. And the gun grabbers say that the gun owner is more likely to die if they have a gun in the home. Looks like they were wrong–again!

    I wish I had something to offer like Michael. All I can offer is my sincere good wishes that she will be able to overcome this trauma and will continue to keep herself and her family safe.

    • We can start a GoFundMe account to replace the ammo she expended on this idiot.

      Might be good marketing for an ammo manufacturer to offer a free box in your caliber if you use their ammo in a “good shoot.”

      • The taxpayer relief shot. She saved the taxpayers $40K a year plus the cost to convict. Ammo should be tax deductible.

    • there are lots of valid self and home defense shootings you will not hear about on CNN or any news channel, about 99.999% of them. Valid defensive gun use is a necessary daily thing in the U.S., if it wasn’t available our annual death and injury rate would be in the millions.

  10. Jeffrey flowers is pushing up daisies. Not sure if the neighbors had an agreement but a camera aimed straight in your neighbor’s backyard is the second invasion here.

    • Double tap his ass and then some. Shoot until the threat is decisively ended….once, twice, thrice, four, five, six times the perp……

      • Actually, that third…last shot…was quite delayed. Might pose problems for the shooter if the first double tap is shown to have incapacitated, ended the initial threat, and then the delayed shot actually did the killing. That could bring murder charge by many Libturd DAs. DGU can also be a threat to the defender’s freedom.

        • That’s why you don’t talk to the police.
          I’m sure her lawyer will help her remember why that 3rd shot was needed.
          Then the police can be informed.

        • I listened to that a couple of times. I don’t think it was a third shot. Sounded more like something falling or a door closing. I could be wrong.

  12. Should have been a mag dump, but I applaud her. First shots appeared to be a double tap. I like a good news story with my morning coffee. Did news disclose the race of the intruder?

      I would not unload my entire magazine. First of all, in the unlikely event that I missed my attacker or the bullets that I did put on target failed to incapacitate my attacker, I want a few more available. Second and more importantly, there could be additional attackers and I want to keep some ammunition in reserve in case those additional attackers charge at me.

      • Well, that is what extra mags and tactical reloads are for. And, then, one is liable for each round expended til it comes to rest within a perp…..

          Somewhat true. Although the odds of an attacker shrugging off four or five hits from my everyday-carry handgun are getting pretty low.

          Sure, handguns are weak-sauce and anything but guaranteed to promptly incapacitate an attacker. I guess I will find out if .40 caliber, 180 grain controlled-expansion hollowpoints with a muzzle velocity of 1,000 fps will be satisfactory if anyone ever attacks me.

    Note that after he broke in, she shot him, and she called 911, it still took police 4 minutes to arrive.

    Should it not read something like, “Twenty-four seconds after breaking in, he was shot by the homeowner.”?

    This prevents a lot of shootouts between police and citizens

  23. Five minutes before the police arrive, and then the initial squad car waits for backup for another two minutes. You are on your own, ladies and gentlemen.

    I recently attended a “stop the bleed” class. The perp had 3 minutes to live, assuming only one of two rounds were well-placed.
