We reported last week on three incidents where concealed carry license (CCL) holders in violence-plagued Chicago were forced to defend themselves, and it appears the hits just keep on coming. Also, last week, Fox 32 is reporting that a road rage incident in the Crestwood area resulted in the fatal shooting of a tow truck driver.
Crestwood police responded to a report of gunfire around 3:02 p.m. last Tuesday near 132nd Street and Cicero Avenue. Upon arrival, they found a 35-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers provided immediate assistance until paramedics from the Crestwood Fire Department arrived and transported the victim to Christ Hospital.
The police investigation revealed that the confrontation began as a road rage incident, leading to a collision between a tow truck and a Buick Enclave near Cal Sag Road and Cicero Avenue. Both vehicles then continued south on Cicero Avenue before turning into the access road to Rivercrest Mall.
After stopping, the tow truck driver allegedly brandished a firearm. In response, the driver of the Buick Enclave, who possesses a valid CCL, drew his own weapon and fired, striking the tow truck driver with a single shot.
The tow truck driver later succumbed to his injuries. The Buick Enclave driver is cooperating with authorities as the investigation continues.
The good guy may or may not have one in this one. That’s the difficult part of road rage incidents is they can involve two people who are both decent folks just caught up in too much emotion at the wrong moment. If you carry a gun, a good policy is to always operate as if everyone else on the road has one as well, and just let the idiots who can’t drive go. It’s not worth the potential legal trouble or in the case of the two truck driver, injury or death, because someone drifted into your lane or cut you off.
Officers provided immediate assistance.
They screamed don’t move, tazed him, mag dumped on him for moving when the electrodes sunk in then handcuffed him and held him down until the paramedics arrived.
Oh I forgot the part about releasing the K9 that ran around biting everything.

I must be weird – I just don’t get that mad when I am driving, full stop. Maybe it is life history – the time spent on an Ford 8N, in an orchard filled with ants, wasps, yellow jackets, hornets, bumblebees and snakes, lowhanging fruit trying to knock you out and drag you under the harrow while dumping spiders down your neck. During dog days. Or the time spent on a motorcycle in the 60s, when little old ladies would pop some pills and drive around town in a huge Buick, looking for a longhair to run over. Or the hitchhiking years…
I am just so glad to have a car with AC that works, surrounded by all that nice metal, and not be hoofing it that I can’t imagine going homicidal over a mere hand gesture or cutoff/brake check. Much less initiating actual gunplay.
I have no idea who is the bad guy here, but I would bet a lot of money that both of these two stepped out of line at some point in the leadup to this mess.
Bottom line: Road rage is not worth it. It’s not worth getting shot over, and it’s not worth shooting anyone else over it either.
Take a deep breath, let it go, and if that doesn’t work seek out anger management.

I don’t know how tow truck drivers behave elsewhere but in our area, for the last 5-6 years or so, they appear to feel that they’re some sort of exempt class of drivers – almost like firefighters or cops responding to an emergency. I’ve witnessed them blatantly disregarding speed limits, traffic signals, and just general good sense and driving manners. Passing, with vehicles in tow, over double yellow lines, blowing through stop signs without even the token slow-down “Hollywood stop”, cutting other vehicles off, blocking lanes during hookups…not saying the deceased was doing any of these things but if it happens in the relatively calm and mostly civilized rural/exurban/suburban area we live in I can’t imagine it’s any better in someplace like Chicago…
no one looks good here and it does not reflect well on ccw holders nor does it support the argument that gun owners are law abiding. this incident helps the gun grabbers. perhaps once the investigation unfolds things will change. but based on what is here this case should be posted on the demanding moms webiste, not a progun website.

“Good people” don’t participate in road rage bullshit.
The best outcome would have been for both bodies to drop to room temp.
While eating my lunch I watched a guy shouting from his truck at some other driver who I assume cut him off or didn’t use a blinker or something. That second party just drove away and got on with his life while this idiot in the truck kept shouting and waving his arms for a good ten minutes all the while attempting to recruit others into his circus with eye contact and remarks like “did you see that?!?”
Morons like this are a net drain to society and should be sent to Siberian mines before they cause tangible harm to others. I don’t believe deterrents work. To be deterred one needs a remedial level of reasoning ability. A trait these people lack. I do believe that removing them from the population saves that population some grief.
I thought it was a 4 way stop and pulled out in front of a woman in a grey mini van. She honked at me. WTF,,, so I slammed on the brakes yanked her out of her veehickle and beat her head on the street all the while screaming “You horny BITCH.”
Finally her brains started oozing from the cracked skull and I damn near got run over by a tow truck driver while I was having lunch.
So, you admit that you were in a hurry, proven by the fact that you were caught eating a warm soft lunch.
