For the third year in a row, I’ve been tapped to represent TTAG at the Crimson Trace Midnight 3-Gun Match. The competition is designed to highlight some of the company’s light-emitting firearms-related products. Illuminating items such as Crimson trace’s lasers, Surefire’s flashlights, and FLIR’s thermal imaging stuff. It’s a great way to try out the new gear, and I’m really looking forward to see what this year’s stages look like. But there’s an added twist: a $2,500 check for the first place finish among the members of the media. Now, remind me: who currently holds that title? . . .
Oh yeah, that’s right — I do. Further proof that we’re the best gun bloggers in the world. The competition kicks off in August, and we’ll keep you in the loop as things develop. Stay tuned.
Nick, I find three gun to be pretty fascinating. It is definitely something I’d like to try. Do you have any recommendations for someone who is a total three gun noob that wants to get involved? Where does one even start? I’m pretty confident in my abilities with a pisto, rifle and shotgun.
The company I work for and a company owned by a friend have made it known that they would be interested in semi sponsoring a team (Paying for ammo, entrance fees and travel). Maybe it is a topic for a different post, but any info would be appreciated.

If you’re new to competitive shooting, it would definitely be a good idea to start off by shooting an IPSC/USPSA, IDPA, or steel challenge match to get some competition experience under your belt before going to 3-gun. There’s just a lot less moving parts, safety concerns, and required gear. In addition, many (if not most) of the clubs that host pistol matches also host 3 gun matches, so you can talk to many of the competitors there about how to get involved in 3 gun locally.
The easiest way to find clubs with shooting matches near you is just a google search. You can also go to USPSA’s website to figure out what area you are in, and there’s usually some information about local clubs as well.
