Doyenne of the District (at least when it comes to guns) Emily Miller appeared on Piers Morgan Live yesterday evening in support of her new book, Emily Gets Her Gun: …But Obama Wants to Take Yours. Piers was unusually restrained for the majority of the interview, but in the end, he could not resist the lure of his normal bombast. When the ridiculously photogenic Ms. Miller proved a match for him at debating facts about gun crime vs. gun ownership, he quickly changed the subject and spent the last third of the interview ranting about Iowa giving gun permits to the legally blind. Needless to say, Emily acquitted herself well on that topic, too . . .

The small town of Oberlin, OH has a decision to make. You see, they have a city ordinance, which dates to 1998, that prohibits the carry of guns in city parks. Unfortunately for them, a state law that allows carry in public parks passed in 2006, and preempts local legislation. This discrepancy went unnoticed until about a month ago, when Brian Kuzawa, a resident of neighboring Ashland County, brought it to their attention by telling the local police chief that he and his wife (and their two year old) were going to visit a city park, and they’d be packin’.

The Chief acknowledged that state law trumped city ordinance. So, on September 16th, the city council will decide whether to rescind the local law, or challenge the state law in court. Smart money’s on the rescission, but not because it’s the right thing to do, or because they’ve had a change of heart regarding guns. They just want to avoid a lawsuit. “I’m not in favor of any of this,” said Council President Ron Rimbert. “No one on Council is. But we need to get this passed. We have a responsibility to our citizens that we don’t get caught up in any litigation.” [h/t Mike H.]

***MEDIA AVAILABILITY ALERT***

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF MAYORS AGAINST ILLEGAL GUNS AVAILABLE TO DISCUSS RECALL ELECTION FROM COLORADO TONIGHT

Mark Glaze, the Executive Director of the bipartisan coalition Mayors Against Illegal Guns, will be available for media interviews tonight to discuss the Colorado recall election live from Colorado Springs. To set up an interview, please contact… [well, we’ll just leave that part out.]

Hmm…  The forces of the Civilian Disarmament Movement have not missed a chance to blame all this nasty recall stuff on the big bad “Gun Lobby,” decrying the “forces from out of state trying to impose their will” on the good people of Colorado.  Why then, do you not see any representatives of the Axis of Evil (that’d be our side) offering to do media spots about the recall election results? Could it be simply that the most dangerous place to be in Colorado right now is between a MAIG rep and a microphone?

Not everyone in Illinois is upset about the impending firearms freedom. In fact, some are downright bursting at the seams. Anticipating a massive influx of new gun owners (after the 6+ months it will take to get an FOID), GAT Guns of East Dundee, IL recently underwent a massive expansion, adding 39 new indoor lanes to its existing 24 lane facility. thetacticalwire.com has the deets on what is now one of the largest indoor ranges anywhere in the country, including plenty of space for the mandatory 16 hours of training required to carry concealed in the Land of Lincoln.

    • TTAG is there any way to stop these guys? Every other article I read comments on the second post down is some person going on about what an infinite source of wealth the internet is, and all you have to do is go to a conspicuous link and download enough Trojans to fill all the major cast roles of the Iliad.

  1. “…decrying the “forces from out of state trying to impose their will” on the good people of Colorado.”

So… he’s complaining about Bloomberg? Because, I’ll bet there are NRA members that LIVE IN Colorado.

    • Miller missed a dozen opportunities to make mincemeat out of Morgan. I understand pitching her book, which seems to be just a collection of her columns is important to her, but come on she just let him roll over her.

  2. I know I said it once before, but just in case Piers is reading this – IOWA LAW REQUIRES A PERMIT TO CARRY A WEAPON IN ORDER TO CARRY A TASER!!! Does Piers think the blind can’t be trusted with tasers?

    • Piers is playing a character.

He’s playing a character just like any actor. As long as people keep giving him attention he’ll stay in the news. Otherwise he would drift into the large intestine of the liberal media wing until he is finally squished out in the form of a Hershey squirt.

      • I take objection to you calling my home S##T. My wife and I are from Hershey, Pa and it pains me to see a fellow member of the gun describe our town that way. BTW, the smell of chocolate in the morning is heavenly.

    • Then that law should be changed. I believe a permit to carry a taser should be required, but it should not be the same as that required to carry a firearm (though the latter should cover the former, if that makes sense).

      • The law exists because tasers are classified as “dangerous” weapons in Iowa, which they are – taser someone with a heart condition and it could be fatal.

  3. The Great Mother England is still in complete denial that us Americans whipped their lobster tail asses to earn our freedom from their ridiculous laws and religious oppression. Go run home to mommy Peirce, she won’t protect you.

  4. I’m still waiting for that tea drinking “fag” (cigarette in England) to buy that plane ticket he said he was going to get and leave America.

  5. Obviously the brit Perce can not comprehend logic or pure numbers. As a someone who is disabled and 3/4 blind I am offended by this POS comment about us. I shoot better then the police do because I have trained to and I know if I pull the trigger with my vision I damn site be able to hit the person I am shooting at. Because of my vision, so I don’t mess it up for other people.

  6. Wow. Finally a reason to go visit my mother in Aurora Illinois. (Aurora is one of those formerly rural towns overrun by the bedroom community expansion from Chicago that has resulted in its enactment of hideously restrictive gun laws, like a AW ban. By the way, no one has ever been killed in Aurora with an AR.)

  7. This is one of the great misconceptions about “legally blind” people… where in fact many of them can actually see — in some cases better than _I_ can without my glasses (uncorrected), and I’m pretty sure I can defend myself in such a situation. “legally blind” doesn’t mean “blind”.

  8. First go find the law that makes someone “legally blind”…good luck with that. Stupid.

I guarantee that I spent most of my life blinder (without contacts) than 95% of the people reading this. I was so blind that my designation on the familiar 20/20 number scale was “available light”…as in worse than 20/400. With my contacts in you would never know and after eye surgery I am 20/20. Piers Morgan is an idiot.

Lastly…why oh why oh why on gods green earth does anyone let this jerkwad get away with his idiotic and unbelievably immature and stupid argument techniques. The minute he combats your FACTS ABOUT DGUs with a FREAKING ANECDOTE about never hearing about them, you LAUGH AT HIM and then say all British people must be dumbasses because the only one you’ve ever met is him.

  9. Well, having blind walking around with guns seems a bit awkward at first. But then you don’t restrict the right to free speech for people with severe stuttering just because they talk awkward.

  10. These people fail to realize that “getting rid of the NRA” doesnt get rid of the people who care deeply about these issues. Nor the money they are willing to spend to protect their rights.

    Dumbasses.

  11. I’ll have to visit GAT Guns the next time I go to visit my daughter in Chicago. Actually, I need to start saving to give her the money for the permit, class, gun, and holster.

  12. what a douche. let’s take away peoples Constitutional rights because they have a disability. Truly, Mr. Morgan doesn’t belong in this country.

  13. (Sigh)
I wish we had someone a little more articulate representing us against Piers Morgan.

Gun ownership goes like this… crime go like this… (sigh).

On the upside, I did find it hilarious that Morgan thought talking down thugs breaking into your house is an effective solution. So… if a rapist/murderer breaks into your house to take your valuables… the solution is to … talk them down. Sure.

    • Yeah I noticed that too.

I thought it was interesting that Piers went relatively easy on one of the least articulate, pro- 2nd amendment speakers I’ve seen on his show so far… who happens to be pretty.

I think the message is obvious. Don’t send any more OFWGs to debate with Piers. He doesn’t try to yell down the ladies as much.

  14. @Hannibal,

I fail to see why a Taser requires a permit. The company itself generates an online background check, and sends a unit-specific activation code. When the unit is fired, it sends out confetti style tags with ID numbers which can be traced back to the purchaser / user. Although the TASER certainly can be abused, it is not terribly easy to do so. Plus, the “rounds” for the C2 and X26 run about $25 apiece.

As a side note, removing the cartridge and using the 2″ spark is a very entertaining way to kill spiders.

(@RF / Matt in FL – the new mobile format does not allow response to a specific comment, please fix!)

    • “(@RF / Matt in FL – the new mobile format does not allow response to a specific comment, please fix!)”

Your aggravation is noted and shared.

  15. Piers believes that the word “blind” means TOTALLY and ABSOLUTELY cannot see anything (ie Stevie Wonder) without acknowledging that there is a ‘spectrum’ of blindness

    such an idiot

  16. As much as I like Emily Miller, I just can’t bring myself to waste another moment of my precious life listening to that blowhard. Think I’ll just go out and buy the book.

  17. Piers Morgan’s resorting to an emotional, ranting change of subject when Emily Miller rationally continued to support her views (and I completely agree with her) is yet another example of today’s media hype and not so covert agenda.
Ms. Miller presented herself in a professional, respectable manner. Morgan on the other hand, was an emotional, unprofessional idiot.
I miss Walter Cronkite and the professional journalism he represented.
