As the old saw goes, you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet. So if your cause seems righteous enough, what does it matter if you have to break a few laws in order to advocate for a policy using public school resources in your official capacity as a public school superintendent? That’s what Michael Simeck, the Superintendent of Schools for the Deerfield, Illinois School District #109 has done.

A few days ago, in a clear violation of Illinois law, Superintendent Simeck wrote a screed attacking the gun rights of all Americans. Because who needs personal defense…particularly in the greater Chicagoland area? He emailed his call to action in support of gun control to the parents of students of the Deerfield Public School District 109.

Nevermind that Americans use firearms more than 1.6 million times each year to protect themselves and their families and keep themselves from being victimized by criminals.

Here’s the email:

Here’s the relevant Illinois statute that Simeck violated . . .

LOCAL GOVERNMENT
(50 ILCS 135/) Local Governmental Employees Political Rights Act.
     (50 ILCS 135/1) (from Ch. 85, par. 7601)
Sec. 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the Local Governmental Employees Political Rights Act.
(Source: P.A. 87-385.)

    (50 ILCS 135/5) (from Ch. 85, par. 7605)
Sec. 5. Definition; political rights. “Political rights” include, without limitation, the following political activities: to petition, to make public speeches, to campaign for or against political candidates, to speak out on questions of public policy, to distribute political literature, to make campaign contributions, and to seek public office.
(Source: P.A. 87-385.)

    (50 ILCS 135/10) (from Ch. 85, par. 7610)
    Sec. 10. Political rights protected.
    (a) No unit of local government or school district may make or enforce any rule or ordinance that in any way inhibits or prohibits any of its employees from exercising the employee’s political rights.
    (b) No employee of a unit of local government or school district may (i) use his or her official position of employment to coerce or inhibit others in the free exercise of their political rights or (ii) engage in political activities while at work or on duty.
(Source: P.A. 87-385.)

Again, if you have to break a few laws in order to promote the infringement of an enumerated civil right, it’s all good as long as you feel strongly enough about it.

  1. Public schools, like the Department of Education, the FBI and the ATF, need to be disbanded. They are not compatible with the Constutition.

    • You mean the Liberal Progressive Democrat Educational Indoctrination system. Formally known as Public education. On a side note in regards to the FBI and BATFE. Today is the 30th anniversary of WACO.

      • Oh my GOD…………… does this mean the Cadet Corp of all boys in 9th to 12th grade, must now turn in their school issued guns?
        =
Why must the Cadet Corp be disarmed?
        =

      • Unfortunately for the super ignorant pos superintendent his beloved Gun Control goes nowhere without the baggage that has walked hand in hand with Gun Control throughout history. Baggage such as slave shacks, lynching, burning crosses, terrorism, concentration camps, gas chambers, swastikas, etc. It’s all still there sitting silent, laying and waiting for history illiterates to breath life into it. Best thing to do? Abolish Gun Control like its sidekick Slavery.

    • Pretty much the national standard now. The only way for any criminal (anywhere on the “criminal” definition spectrum, whether a politician or a back-alley mugger) to learn not to criminal is to thrown into a dungeon long enough for other criminals to know it hurts when you criminal.

      • Considering how Illinois is, I am concerned about my other semi rifles, lever rifles and bolt rifles. Handguns, a few pellet rifls that require a FOID. After all, no one needs ……..

We don’t need whiney politicians, but there they are in Chicago and Springfield

    • Illinois, California, New York state, and others, will enjoy the right to Silencers, short-barreled rifles (although that designation may well soon be *gone*) short-barreled shotguns, full-auto ‘toys’ and whatnot in the not-distant future.

      It’s coming. (It’s breathing hard, even as I speak)… 🙂

  2. We ought to consider the relative danger of creating a monopoly in knowledge.

Suppose we considered giving a monopoly to teach mathematics. Might be all right. Arithmetic ha been pretty well established for long enough. Probably not a lot of remaining room for debate over arithmetic. So ok let’s give a monopoly to teach arithmetic.

So how about philosophy? Or religion? Or history? Or political science? Are these just like arithmetic? Is there no more potential for mischief in these subjects than we see in arithmetic?

  3. Literacy and test scores have been falling steadily since the 70’s. We’re not competitive globally at all. We have to assume that this was the plan all along otherwise some changes would have been made so as far as I can tell public education is working as it was intended. Highest per pupil spending with nothing to show for it.

    • All due to the take over of what was known as Public Education before the 80’s and remaking it into the Liberal Democrat Educational Indoctrination system. In the last 15 years the Progressives have entered into the system and for the most part taken control of the Indoctrination of children. To believe the emotions and feelings are more important. Than their abilities, skills and accomplishments. None of which matter as long as they feel good about themselves. Hence the prevalence of the everybody gets a trophy for just showing up generations. Who expect society (i.e.) Big Government to provide them with a life and a livelihood without having to work for it.

  4. It’s libetard land in illinois, what do you expect from a bunch of participation trophy given, genitalia swapping pedophiles, cry babies & pieces of sh!t. #f@#$Illinois, boycott everything Illinois..

  5. In other news, the decision from Judge Roger Benitez in the California gun and magazine ban case is already written and should come out soon, maybe this week.

Both sides in the case say they expect Benitez will strike down the.

But even if it does strike down the law, it might be a while before anything changes because you know California will appeal to the 9th, and then from there its probably on its way to SCOTUS. Gotta wait and see.

Judge Benitez struck down the law once before in 2021 but the California appeal to a higher court resulted in the law being reinstated. Anyway, this will be the first one after the SCOTUS Bruen decision.

    • correction: This decision is for the weapons ban and not the magazine ban.

      sorry ’bout that

But, Judge Benitez is also hearing a case on California’s ban on certain magazines. That law stands a good chance of being thrown out by the same ideologues as the weapons ban case decision would use if the weapons ban law is struck down.

  6. How sad that people are sooooo blind to reality, that all they can do is blame an inanimate object, attack the rights of responsible citizens that obey the law, because they have NO IDEA or DESIRE to ADDRESS the REAL ISSUE(s) . .. Maybe (quite likely) OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM is where those that GO HAYWIRE BEGIN to GO ASTRAY in their MINDS . . .

  7. These laws only apply to conservatives. Liberals can and will do whatever they damn well please.

  8. Nothing lawfull will happen to that guy.
Now if hed have ask for a call to arms to protect his school theyd have hung him from a fence by his testicles.
Long Live Freedom,,,bwhahahaaha, Freedom, to do what your told when your told to do it.

  9. Problem is that the statute doesn’t appear to have any enforcement mechanism. Any Illinois attorneys out there know if a violation of that statute is criminalized / enforced under another statute? (If so, somebody in the district should swear out a complaint against this turkey.)

If not, someone could try and get an injunction against him using taxpayer dollars for illegal political activities, but I suspect that is going to run into a “taxpayer status along isn’t enough to give standing” argument.

John, did anyone even ask the district for comment on why it is allowing the superintendent to violate the law?

  10. One glance at the list of politicians is all I needed.
Plus Deerfield is just west of Highland Park.
Michael Simeck THINKS he can just do what he wants.

He fits right in with the list of loser politicians.
    Look into these people deeply:
Julie Morrison let the cat out the bag early and said they would confiscate all guns in 2019.
Tammy Duckworth threw a bunch of vets under the bus to claw her way into the Senate.
Dick Durbin’s first name tells you all need to know.

Michael Simeck broke Illinois law and knows that all of these politicians will protect him.

  11. Every liberal knows that, short of firebombing a police car, their misdeeds carry no consequences. How many times have we seen one perjure themself in Congressional testimony with no repercussions.

    • Thought those firebombers got off… plea deal got them 18-24 months instead of the 10-20 YEARS they were originally were facing…

  12. Guess the “SUPERINTENDENT of SCHOOLS” needs to catch up before he starts slinging bullshit, right off and without looking it up I know that at least FOUR items on his list are already in effect in “Illannoy”… He would probably be better served if he spent that time trying to figure out how to raise the level of performance of the students…

    • Those “students” live a privileged life.and that whole area is pretty high ticket.
The parents will buy their kids way into decent colleges.
Then they will all go work at Allstate corporate.
As for the “Non-Partisan Advocacy Groups”, they only say that so they can get tax exempt status.
As long as they stay out of political campaign activity, they can be a tax exempt organization.
      Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

  13. “Leading cause of death for children aged 1-19”.

Last I heard, 18 and 19 year olds were adults. How about we change the range to 1-17. This is more accurate. Lets also remove suicide from the mix. I’m guessing the number dropped faster than Biden’s poll ratings……

  14. The claim of children being killed by firearms is false. Yes, kids do get killed with firearms. However many of those “children” are 16 to 25 year olds. Hardly children.
Banning legal purchase of any firearm has not, will not, and can not prevent criminals from obtaining weapons or using said weapons to commit acts of criminal violence.
Put real education back into the education system. Put discipline back into the classroom.
Stop the foolishness of equity and focus on equality and merit.

    • The evil left avoids discussing the real problem: Gangs. I wonder why? Playing identity politics like a Harp From Hell, yet being silent regarding certain minority classes being so prominent in said gangs. Hmmm

  15. Meanwhile, they will elect another Democrat to replace Lightfoot and expect change to happen overnight… or at all.
