Christopher Hill Florida Carjack Concealed Carriers Two Guns Walmart
courtesy actionnewsjax.com

Before the Parkland shooting and Governor Rick Scott’s capitulation to the forces of civilian disarmament, Florida was affectionately known as The Gunshine State. That moniker was earned for having the most citizens with concealed carry permits in the nation…nearly 1.8 million.

One side benefit of all those armed law-abiders going about their business is that it makes things more difficult for law-breakers. That’s a fact that Christopher Hill learned the hard way.

Hill apparently didn’t have much of a plan for robbing a Jacksonville Walmart, but rob it he did. After jumping over a counter and grabbing a cash register, he made his way out into the parking lot. It was only then that he realized he’d probably need a getaway car.

Police said Hill approached a man who was sitting in the parking lot near Supercuts. Hill asked the man for a ride and the man refused.

“I turned the ignition off, grabbed my keys, opened the door and boom, there he was,” Scott Reardean said.

According to the report, Hill put the cash register in the Reardean’s truck bed and pulled a knife, cutting Reardean on the hands and leg, the arrest report said. …

Reardean said to Action News Jax that he was able to grab his pistol from his truck and pointed it at Hill, who then ran away toward Starbucks.

It isn’t clear whether or not Hill remembered to grab the register out of the truck bed. Anyway, at the Starbucks drive-thru, Hill knocked on the window of a woman’s car . . .

She told police she rolled down her passenger’s side window to see what he wanted and she said Hill opened her door and got into the car.

The woman said Hill told her to drive because someone was chasing him. She told police she tried to push him out of the vehicle and he would not get out. According to the report, she was in fear for her life, so she got out of her car to get her Ruger pistol out of her trunk.

Hill got out of the car and came toward her. She said she pointed her pistol at him and he ran away.

Two drivers, two guns. From there, Hill ducked into the Supercuts bathroom where police eventually nabbed him.

A few lessons; 1) If you’re going to embark on a life of crime, it’s probably a good idea to arrange for transportation in advance. 2) Don’t roll your car window down when a random stranger knocks on it. 3) If you’re going carry a gun, carry a gun. Leaving it in the trunk, where it’s inaccessible is a bad idea. Most bad guys won’t give you an opportunity to retrieve it. 4) Carjacking in a state with the most concealed carriers can be hazardous to your health.

Christopher Raymond Hill, 36, was arrested on charges of strong arm robbery, carjacking with firearm or deadly weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and trespassing, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office online inmate information search.

And another Florida Man gets his just desserts.

  1. He’s gotta be the luckiest feller in the state of Florida…. Car jacked not one but two cars with armed owners in the vehicles, cut one victim up, threatened to cut a second after jumping in her vehicle, and still neither victim shot him. Why are stupid people so damn lucky?

    • /sarc/ Lucky? That poor man was twice the victim of gun violence in one day! All he wanted was money to buy his dying mother medicine so she could be around one more day so he could tell her how much he loved her! Like Cisco Kid is so fond of saying here: the man who was allegedly stabbed and that alleged woman “victim” didn’t need guns to defend them selves! If people like that want to defend themselves then they should be younger, stronger, slightly intoxicated, out number their assailants, and learn ninjitsu! They don’t need guns! /sarc/

      • Well since you put it like that… I repent for my gun o phobic ways and request the progressive lobby forgive me of my ignorance and sins against the great shining light of social justice and communism I knew not what I did! Surely we shouldn’t sentence this fine young man to prison but rather get him the counseling and help he will so desperately need to overcome the damage done by those evil gun toting fascists who sought to retain desirable objects to themselves. What was I thinking?

        • Hippybiker: Its not JUST you…. If some freak jumps me in my car and cuts me, he will suddenly find more orifices than normal appearing in his anatomy. To hell with waving a gun around and telling the freak to get out of the vehicle. Guns are for shooting, esp after a felony assault. Why would an armed man NOT shoot a man who attacked him with a knife?
I just don’t understand. I guess I just have less respect for felonious freaks than most.

        • most people will do all they can to avoid shooting somebody….as this incident bears out

      • I’m waiting for Crisco kid’s three screen page diatribe about how the criminal was the real victim and those bourgeois capitalist running-dog lackey imperialist murderous NRA members should have voluntarily redistributed their property to him.

And how also this doesn’t anywhere else in the world (newsflash, carjackings do happen everywhere from Russia to South Africa, South America, England, etc). At least in the US people can do something about it.

        • It sounds like Walmart already did. Voluntarily redistribute their property to him, I mean.
I would have expected someone from Walmart to at least follow him out to the parking lot, after carrying off a whole cash register and all. But it sounds as if he ran around in the parking lot for long enough to have pried open the register, took the money, and have fled on foot and gotten away with it, had he been so inclined.

    • I’d shot his ass dead also. My gun is in a holster appendix carried. If he pulled a knife on me and started with that nonsense, he would have ate 7 or 8 rounds of JHP .40 rounds and I wouldn’t have lost but several minutes of sleep over it. The worst thing would be that the cops would have my daily carry and that would piss me off but you know what, the very next day, I’d run to the LGS and buy another P229. F**k em!

  2. We do have some of the dumbest crooks here in Florida. That in itself might be a good thing.

    • Most of these “Florida Man” criminals are transients who end up here. The masked pizza parlor robber who was shot and killed last week was a career criminal from Greenville, NC. Law enforcement couldn’t even find a record of him staying in any Florida flophouses. Trail went cold at a seedy motel in NC.
You don’t need a CWoFL to carry a firearm in your car’s interior, it just has to be, by statute, “securely encased”, eg; snapped in a holster, in glove box or console, etc.

      • The pistol also has to be three movements away from fireable. On another note, the stupidest people I’ve ever met in my life have been Florida born and bred. Theres a special kind of stupid down there…I decided to move back home when after being there for five years I realised that everyone I made friends with or associated with were from OUT OF STATE. One of the continual topics of conversation would be how terribly stupid the locals were. Half of them didn’t finish high school but could tell you eight ways to cook meth. That state is full of trash.

        • Actually, the “3 moves” is a bit of a wive’s tale. There’s nothing in the statute about it, it just says “securely encased” followed by some, but not all of, the examples I listed above. It was one of the first questions I asked in my carry license class over 20 years ago.

It’s impossible to define what counts as a “move”, but the statute examples given would infer that some effort be required to get your gun. Unholstered and lying on the passenger seat will probably get you arrested, if not shot..

        • “Three steps” is not a thing. It may have been prior to 1987 when FL passed its concealed weapons statute.

          The law reads (emphasis mine):

FS 790.25 – (5) POSSESSION IN PRIVATE CONVEYANCE.—Notwithstanding subsection (2), it is lawful and is not a violation of s. 790.01 for a person 18 years of age or older to possess a concealed firearm or other weapon for self-defense or other lawful purpose within the interior of a private conveyance, without a license, if the firearm or other weapon is securely encased or is otherwise not readily accessible for immediate use. Nothing herein contained prohibits the carrying of a legal firearm other than a handgun anywhere in a private conveyance when such firearm is being carried for a lawful use. Nothing herein contained shall be construed to authorize the carrying of a concealed firearm or other weapon on the person. This subsection shall be liberally construed in favor of the lawful use, ownership, and possession of firearms and other weapons, including lawful self-defense as provided in s. 776.012.

          Securely encased, defined:

FS 790.001 – (17) “Securely encased” means in a glove compartment, whether or not locked; snapped in a holster; in a gun case, whether or not locked; in a zippered gun case; or in a closed box or container which requires a lid or cover to be opened for access.

        • Oh, also, re: Florida is full of trash…

With all due respect, go fuck yourself; you’re not wanted here. Virtually every person I’ve met in my life (and I was born here) who is someone on whom I wouldn’t piss if they were on fire, came from somewhere else.

If you would like to come here, and bring solid conservative values, a respect for other people and a desire to stay the hell out of their business with you, come on. If you want to shit on Florida, its politics, its weather, or its people (especially those “born and bred” here), kindly stay the hell where you are.

Again, having lived here my whole life, and encountering people from all walks (and origins) in my daily life, I can’t tell you a single way to cook meth, nor could I reliably point you to someone who could. If you regularly encountered folks that could tell you 8 ways to cook meth, maybe it’s the circles you and your “friends from somewhere else” moved in, shitbag.

        • Hey Matt in Fl…I didn’t cuss at you you fuckin river dwelling redneck cocksucker, did I? As far as I’m concerned that shit state can slide into the ocean, take all the queers and drag queens in Miami, the New York Libtard transplants in the keys and all you sister fuckin rednecks in the gulf and drown em. People like you are a perfect example of why NOT to live there. I’m SO willing to bet you apendix carry too….Whole state full of Titty bars, strip malls, fast food, trailer parks, bail bondsman and Baptist churches. Keep it.

    • “…so she got out of her car to get her Ruger pistol out of her trunk.”

Well, not only the crook was dumb in this instance.

    • Well, hell, officer. I would have given him emergency assistance but those 12 rounds of hot brass that bounced off my chin and down my shirt needed attention, stat!

    • The fact that they pointed their guns at him and he didn’t instantaneously burst in to flames from simply looking down the barrel and glimpsing the bullet, tells me that the victims weren’t packing 6.5 Creedmore…..

“Don’t look at it (6.5 Creedmore). Shut your eyes, Marion. Don’t look at it, no matter what happens!” – Book of Joshua, 6:1-27

      • Geez, you Creedmore guys are getting as bad as the glock fanboys. Do you know how long the 6.5 rounds have been around for? Hint… look prior to WWI. The same era that the striker fired semi auto came from.

    • And if the first guy had blasted him he wouldn’t have been able to assault the second victim.

  3. Geez you roll your window down? You don’t LOCK your doors?!? Not just a dumbazz perp…

    • Well, he was nice enough to wait a moment while she excused herself to get her gun out of the trunk… 😉

  4. Once upon a time in a Florida far, far away, Miami was the carjacking capital of the Universe. The carjacking plague was so rampant that it provided a powerful boost to the concealed carry movement, culminating in Florida’s shall issue concealed carry law signed by Rep. Gov. Bob Martinez in 1987 (it had been passed in 1985 but vetoed by Democrat Gov. Bob Graham).

Proponents had pushed hard for licensed open carry, but Dem. State’s Attorney Janet Reno (‘memba that one?) pushed harder in the opposite direction. And who could fight such an imposing Waco baby-killing, Richard Jewell-framing, Elian Gonzalez-deporting beyotch?

    • florida in the eighties was a pretty wild and wooly place…which prompted these gun law revisions…seems to have calmed down some since then….

  5. So, 2 out of 2 people were armed but not really armed.

Reardean got out of his truck and left his pistol in it, with a crazy man carrying a cash register walking towards him?

    1. Situational awareness = 0 (opened the door and boom, there he was)

    2. Was he leaving his pistol in the truck because he was heading into a GFZ?

According to the report, she was in fear for her life, so she got out of her car to get her Ruger pistol out of her trunk.

Here in Michigan, trunk carry is for those who don’t have a permit to carry normally. Same in Florida?

    • “Here in Michigan, trunk carry is for those who don’t have a permit to carry normally. Same in Florida?”

      Nope.

No permit required for loaded pistol carry in your vehicle.

Florida is pretty good about that, your vehicle is considered an extension of your home residence.

Not only that, but an attached to the structure carport or porch is also considered your home, as one 15-year-old car burglar found out when he was shot dead by the homeowner. No charges for the homeowner…

  6. Florida man is the worst anti superhero ever!
He is always crashing into police cars, getting arrested with his pet monkey, hiding stolen zoo animals in his apartment, and screaming about where babies come from at children while he is naked.
Florida woman is right behind him as she crashes into police cars, teaches her toddler to roll joints, has sex in public and tries to hire a hit man to kill her husband.
I love living here in Florida!
Summer has started and boy is it hot!!!
It won’t cool off until the end of September

    • Hey least they keep two TV series afloat (not to mention a whole channel that has nothing else of value but those two shows) with America’s Dumbest Criminals and America’s Dumbest (drivers, employees, people, pets, and whatever else) singlehandedly.

Rest assured any and every show having the words America’s Dumbest in the title will feature no fewer than 5 segments featuring people, events, animals, laws, or news from Florida.

      • The weather probably has something to do with it. In most other states, people that are too stupid or mentally unbalanced to come in out of the cold would just die, but in Florida, there’s not a lot of cold going around.

        • Obviously the alligators are lazy (or may have too good of taste). You’d think these clueless wankers would get eaten by Darwinism 😉

  7. Lucky the first guy did not shoot/kill him…he was attacked with a deadly weapon…
as for the lady…guess she will keep her doors locked from now on…roll window down just enough to hear/talk…or not stop at all, of course…and maybe keep the gun closer at hand, of course
no sympathy for the thief…give him the max time possible, please

    • The only one I will roll my window down for is a uniformed cop who has just exited a marked patrol car. And that hasn’t happened for more than twenty years.

  8. You pull some shit in Florida you’re gonna get shot. Just about everyone carries….

  9. Robbed a store, SLASHED A GUY, 2 attempted car-jackings, and the reporting will be about the eee-vill brandishing by those out of control Wally-world shoppers. Cue Samantha Colbert in 3 … 2 … 1 …

  10. Time to Fact Check TTAG yet again. No license to carry is required to have a gun in a glove box or console or closed container in Florida. Many of the 1.8 million CWFL’s issued are to out of state residents.

    • There are far to many people who don’t want to carry a gun, but think “car carry” is all they need.
And you don’t need a permission slip to car carry.

    • What are you fact-checking? The post says there’s a lot of concealed carriers, and that makes carjackings risky. Nowhere does it imply that a permit is necessary for vehicle carry. If anything, that fact just strengthens the point about carjackings being risky.

Many of the permit-holders don’t even carry. I know a couple who don’t (though at least one does have a gun in the car). Doesn’t negate the overall point.

  11. I changed the way I dress so I can always CCW. And I conceal a long gun in my car.
