The Supreme Court on Saturday allowed Texas to go forward with this controversial voter ID law. A federal judge had previously struck down the law, arguing that it could disenfranchise 600,000 voters or a full 4.5 percent of registered voters, many of them black and Latino.
Critics say voter ID laws, especially the one in Texas, amount to voter suppression, because it can be both difficult and costly to get the required identification. In a powerfully worded dissent, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, joined by Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagen, wrote, “The greatest threat to public confidence in elections in this case is the prospect of enforcing a purposefully discriminatory law, one that likely imposes an unconstitutional poll tax and risks denying the right to vote to hundreds of thousands of eligible voters.”

Then how was he able to register in multiple jurisdictions at once? How was he able to vote while registered in multiple jurisdictions? Was he caught by the system in place, or was he caught by the opposing political party because he’s a high profile political figure?
Regarding the Texas ID laws, I’m not familiar with that story. I’m offering my opinion without reading up on it. It seems pretty simple, really. I assume the CCW license has the same requirements to obtain throughout the state. The college IDs could vary from college to college. There are plenty of non-citizens who have a college ID. That could open the door for non-citizens to vote if they don’t verify citizenship and note it on the ID.

I looked, but I don’t see where it says it costs anything at all. How do you think people open a checking account? Apply for welfare? Rent or buy a home? Rent or buy a car? Register a car? Legally drive a car? Buy alcohol or cigarettes? Get the vax? It’s almost like this idea that people are too dumb or too poor to obtain an ID is 100% BS. If it was an actual problem that the left wanted to solve, then WHY HAVEN’T THEY SOLVED IT BY HELPING PEOPLE GET STATE IDs? They’ve been talking about this problem for at least a decade that I’ve noticed. What have they done about it? It’s almost like it’s an excuse not to require identification. This is coming from the same party that wants to over-regulate everything else on the planet. Things that make you go hmm…
