I want to take a moment to show how far America has come since the darkest days of gun control. I’m speaking here of the post-Civil War period, when Southern states enacted gun control laws to disarm African-Americans. Laws that embodied and emboldened the Ku Klux Klan’s “disarmament program;” an effort accompanied by the rape, torture, murder and intimidation of thousands of defenseless citizens. A state of affairs acknowledged and condemned by the United States Supreme Court in the McDonald decision. Today, the FBI reports that police apprehended 4873 hate crime offenders in 2010. Of those, .03 percent murdered or raped their victims. That’s 14.6 bad guys. Unstated: the split between murder and rape and the murder weapon used (if any). But still, we’ve come a long way as a nation. Despite gun control, not because of it.

  1. the reconstruction indeed brought dark days in the US. The black codes “jim crow precursor” also made it illegal to possess alcohol, steal chickens or to be unemployed. Interesting that dis- arming was grouped with these other policies.

  3. Africans have a history of being tools in other people’s schemes. For hundreds of years they were bought and sold by Arabs, Whites, Jews, and other Afrcans. After being ostensibly freed by Lincoln they were used as a weapon against the South during Reconstruction. It’s a damn shame that Marcus Garvey was so heavily sabotaged in his efforts. He offered his people a real way out of a no-win system.

  4. The FBI’s numbers are totally skewed, since just about every violent crime can be deemed a “hate crime” by a prosecutor with an agenda. This is especially true if the victim of the crime is a member of an ethnic, religious or sexual minority group. If it’s not a “hate crime,” then it must be, what, a “love crime?” An “indifference crime?” C’mon. So-called “hate crime legislation” is just more leftist political bullsh!t.
