Wayne LaPierre NRA

Earlier today we reported that NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre rejected board and major contributor demands that he resign. We learned from a reliable source that, in response, he wrote a letter explaining his position.

    • If the Board had any balls at all, they would shitcan Mr. LaPierre. Kick him and his “contract” to the curb.

      • The board has no power. The by-laws were changed in the early nineties. To prevent another “Cincinnati Revolt” from membership.

    • Actually, if you understood what’s going on you might not feel that way. Currently, the 2 big problems facing the NRA are Ackerman and Oliver north. Not Wayne. North staged a coup. And failed. And just resigned. What did North want? He wanted the NRA to cease being political advocates and focus just on gun safety and hunting. In other words, the FUDD agenda. The board members who asked for Wayne’s resignation? A small minority but they grabbed the headlines making it seemed like it was the majority. Also revealed, North had a conflict of interest as he was also being paid by Ackerman. That’s just filthy. In the end, it turns out North was an enemy within, as are all FUDDS who are NRA members. I’m glad he’s gone. Now Wayne can focus on getting rid of Ackerman and focusing on destroying the democrat terrorists who are trying to usurp, ignore and erase the Second Amendment.

      • North has announced he’s not running again. One down LaPierre, Cox & Ackerman have to go. After that, more cooperation with the other pro-2nd outfits like GOA;etc. A united, uncompromising, politically powerful front is needed.

        • You know as well as I do that if it weren’t for the NRA, we would no longer have our gun rights.

      • Oliver North is definitely not the problem. I don’t know much about the other guy you mentioned.

      • THIS MAKES THE MOST SENSE I’VE HEARD YET!!! WASN’T REALLY TOTALLY TRUSTING NORTH FROM THE BEGINNING!!!

        • “He (North)wanted the NRA to cease being political advocates…”

I actually agree with Ollie, but different reasons…if NRA is not going to take the absolutist stand, risk dying on every hill of gun control, it would be better to have NRA go back to marksmanship, training and safety. Swallowing a tape measure (gun control) by inches, then laying down and dying by the yard is a waste of energy.

      • If he is guilty he absolutely needs to go but not until it is proved. Maybe you guys don’t believe in due process but that is the only fair way.

  1. Ok this is perhaps a really stupid question, but why is the title for the number one in charge at the NRA “Executive Vice President?” Shouldn’t it be just President? That’s always confused me. I mean, Trump is President and Pence is Vice President. Crystal clear. What the hell is an Executive Vice President anyway? : )

    • Mark, I could be wrong but I think it’s about appearances. LaPierre was beginning to get a bad name among members, so they brought along Oliver North as a patriotic figurehead that people would support.

      • I’d ask why they would pick a a gun smuggler and gun grabber that wasted no time calling himself and the NRA as a whole terrorists in that case, but the NRA has shown itself stupid enough to do that.

        • This^^^ North is a criminal. The only reason he can even possess a firearm is because he won an appeal where they ruled his Congressional testimony, where he was given immunity, made the jury think he was a scumbag. Only the NRA would allow an illegal gun runner (to Iran no less) to lead a Second Amendment rights group. What a scam. Maybe he’ll run around naked at a convention.

    • The VP is a hired staff position, and he’s the chief executive. I don’t believe it was always that way though.
The President is an elected position, and in recent decades anyway, a figurehead. But I seem to recall that the President often went on to become the EVP.

    • Executive is the guy who “executes” as in policy, he coordinates, organizes and takes direct action where necessary. A mover and shaker. The guy or gal that kicks ass and takes names within an organization. In public the President is the person that grips and grins, slaps everyone on the back and tells everyone the good news or spin, whichever is necessary. The Vice President provides direction and the executive takes actions necessary.

    • It’s actually fairly common in corporate entities. The executive is the more classical term for a Senior (think SVP vs EVP). These folks are usually being groomed to take over as a C-Suite member at some point, although I’m unsure of how the NRA operates on this one.

      • There are pathological liars and anti gunners posting their stupidity on this site. Wayne LaPierre has done good things for the NRA and Oliver North is a very good voice for the NRA. Gun haters and outright idiots on this site hates and despises the NRA and will say anything negative just like the lying media they listen to and are dumb enough to believe. I do not think that the NRA s hi would be paying LaPierre that kind of salary tjough.

      • LaPierre is EVP and CEO. Companies often have President and CEO as the same person. In NRA, President is elected by membership and becomes the public face, LaPierre is around forever, or until a majority of the board chooses to replace him. With most of the board as lackeys or no shows (more celebrity figureheads), that’s not going to happen.

  2. So let’s see that backroom deal. I’m sure it’s more than he deserves. Dump all executives for letting it get this bad, completely end the relationship with AM, and rebuild.

    • The fact he can even claim this about AM is enough evidence to terminate that relationship immediately, and LaPierre with it after all his years promoting them & his familial connections.

What a damn joke; the GOP stooges he whored the organization out to are ‘suddenly’ trying to blackmail him? And we’re supposed to sympathize with him for that? What an asshat.

At least we know why the NRA went soft mere hours after the president did in the days following Parkland…assuming Wayne isn’t being the lying shitbag we know he is.

      • Let’s see if I have this right –

LaPierre – “Ackerman McQueen is going to blackmail me!”.

Well, Wayne, just how and why did you put yourself in a position to be blackmailed?

What dirt exactly does AM have on La Pierre?

While I continue to despise AM, I have grudging respect for them in engineering a blackmail ‘insurance policy’ that they hoped would keep their gravy train chugging right along, at the NRA member’s expense.

I’m now *very* interested in seeing exactly what ‘dirt’ AM has on LaPierre. If it’s good enough, maybe it could park La Pierre in prison, and maybe the NRA can recover some money out of it…

        • Probably found out he’s never shot an autoloader, or has a cross-eyed dominatrix (I say, that’s a pun, boy, “cross eye dominant,” son –kid ain’t the sharpest splinter in the wood pile)

        • If the dirt is good enough, it could put LaPierre and AM behind bars…

        • I don’t like WLP that much and stopped paying dues to the NRA last year due to their incessant requests for obscene amounts of money multiple times per week. They still call me a couple times a month asking me to renew and I just ignore the calls at this point.

That said, I do not automatically assume in these cases that “the dirt” is true. Some accusations, though false, are powerful enough to do the work of truth. If AM thinks they have such a set of bullshit claims then that could be the basis of this squabble.

The “pee dossier” was bullshit. Many claims of rape or sexual assault are bullshit. That doesn’t mean that the allegations themselves are not very damaging. Just look at Kavanaugh’s confirmation process for evidence of this.

I’ve also personally witnessed someone have their entire life nearly destroyed by accusations of race-based assault only to be saved by security camera footage that remained undiscovered until the guy’s own lawyer found out about the cameras, which apparently the cops, university police and the university (which owned the cameras mind you) couldn’t fucking figure out. Homie avoided charges but he still got tossed from the University over 100% demonstrable bullshit accusations. The university got away with it too by arguing that it was for HIS safety because people might harm him thinking the allegations were true. Allegations the University made public in the first fucking place.

As such, if WLP is going to say “Come at me bro, I’m not scared” then I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt until the accusations are made AND evidence is presented. That doesn’t mean I think he’s competent at his current job and should keep it mind you, it just means I actually like to give people a fair shake when people start throwing around serious accusations which it would seem has now happened from both sides on this one.

        • How dare you withhold judgment until the facts are presented and you can develop an objective evaluation. Heresy!!

          • Let me guess, a liberal Democrat right? Always assuming someone is automatically guilty, unless of course it is another liberal Democrat.

      • Geez if the unhinged name calling Barnbwt doesn’t like him, maybe he’s ok..

Or is this one of Barnbwt like a clock moment? Hmmm..?

        • It’s kind of dumb to let people you don’t like or agree with make up your mind for you…but I suppose if a person lacks the ability to do so for themselves…

      • And you are stupid enough to believe the media and you are also a hater of guns and the NRA, plain and simple.

  3. I very much doubt he puts the “Association’s” interests before his own. He always seemed like just another shitty over-paid executive to me. He doesn’t even strike me as a gun person. He avoided the military. His degrees were in government and politics. It shouldn’t take $5M to get someone to dedicate themselves to that job.

  4. He’s a douche and should have been gone a long time ago. When you support government infringement on a right you are no better than the government. This douche has done exactly that. I’m personally sorry I’ve ever given a single cent to the NRA because they don’t represent true rights. They represent what they want. If the NRA brings in someone worth supporting I’ll become a member again.

        • “How about waste of skin?”

          That’s already covered with *you*… 🙂

          • No you take the cake with that as well. I didn’t jerk your chain mutt. Go hump someone else’s leg. In fact you can fuck off anywhere away from me. Don’t you have a dick to eat?

        • ” In fact you can fuck off anywhere away from me.”

          *WRONG*

That’s not the way things work.

You don’t tell me what to do, fuckwit.

That little crack of yours just earned you some *very* special attention.

          Is that clear? 🙂

          • No as a matter of fact I could care less. If your life is so pathetic you have to be an antagonistic prick than I feel sorry for you. Your momma should have aborted you at birth out of mercy. Take your special attention and shove it. I didn’t jerk your chain mutt. Go be a prick somewhere else.

  5. It’s as bad as ALL the BOARD members allowed it to be, so singlingly out 1 bad apple is not going to change anything unless those that allowed it are gone to. Like Trump says “Clean the Swamp” or let the whole organization go down to the Libs!

  6. C’mon guys; “board member and major contributor demandS” isn’t the same as The Board demanding he resign. Isolated incident by insignificant disloyal enemies within.

    LOL

    • So, wikipedia says that the board has 76 members. Did one member demand LaPierre’s resignation? Did they demand it with a threat of a negative letter (blackmail), as LaPierre asserts?

I don’t think that the full story is out there just yet.

  7. The people running the NRA need to be 2A absolutists & firearms owners/sportsmen that are in it for that reason and that reason only.

The people running the NRA must not have connections to vendors providing services to the NRA.

    • 40 years of building a scam to take over the NRA and destroy it for their personal benefit. Yet NRA members call the critics of this scam commie traitors trying to help the libtards get the 2nd Amendment repealed entirely. They claim if it wasn’t for the people in the NRA funneling 2A advocates’ money into their own pockets we wouldn’t have a 2nd Amendment. They say the NRA is too big to fail, that we need to stand by them although they do more drinking with the good old boys than fighting for Americans’ human rights. They demand we continue to fund the rich lifestyles of NRA elitists until we lose our rights, then we can have a civil war to get back the guns and our liberty. And they want you to not forget to blow a kiss at our lovable law enforcement.

I find it disgusting that the NRA crowd cheered when Trump (effectively) said Obama wouldn’t militarize the police but he is doing the opposite by making sure all that military gear gets used on Americans. When did the NRA membership become pro militarized police state? When did they switch to loving a standing army being used against them? When did they become okay with jackbooted thugs?

  8. I’m afraid I agree that LaPierre should go. I lived near the NRA Headquarters building and used their indoor range and visited their museum for over 15 years. I’ve never seen any of the head honchos anywhere I was able to go. The range seemed to be a money maker and treated everyone, including us Life Members as just a revenue source. I donated some ammo to a Wounded Warriors type event there and never even received a “Thank You” note.

I don’t know exactly what he’s paid, including bennies and reimbursements, but it’s too much. I get “please send money” grams from them once or twice a week.

Let’s get back to what the NRA was founded as, a member owned organization, not a commercial business. LaPierre is driving this money maker scheme and he has to GO!!

    • His base pay is $1.4 million per year. But “Total Compensation” of all benefits and perks is a little over $5 million a year. He has a special retirement contract that pays his full salary to be a consultant.

Of course if he is fired or resigns, there may be other sneaky ivory tower bullcrap written into that contract to make certain his parachute is golden with lovely rhinestone encrusted platinum plated buckles and doo-dads.

    • I also lived in the area. Somewhere around 15 years ago I had the pleasure of joining an entire tablefull of NRA employees at a Friends of the NRA banquet. They were all under instructions to go out and mingle with the attendees, provide feedback and generally promote the NRA at every event nearby and HQ was only a few miles away. It was a blast talking to them, they were all excited and happy with their jobs. One of them said something like “It’s the only job in the world when you hear an action worked, everyone comes running over and says oooo, whatcha got?”

I seriously thought right then and there about leaving an otherwise lucrative professional job to join that bunch of happy people. Sometimes wish I had. But instead I earned the filthy lucre and donated to become a life member, then donated to rise to all three levels above that. Then they changed that whole system to something entirely different which I haven’t quite figured out yet. So that seems kind of a waste.

In the last five years, I have run into zero (0) NRA employees at probably a dozen different events. David Wells, God bless him, is out there every single time promoting and advancing the cause. His tireless energy and all of the volunteers keep the events going strong, but Wayne has never shown up. Not once. A few candidates for the Board showed up. I distinctly recall asking one whether he supported the Hearing Protection Act and what he was going to do to promote it and he said “What’s that?” So if you wonder why a Republican House, Senate and Presidency didn’t act while they could, there’s your answer.

So, yeah, they’re pretty out of touch with their base. But the Left remains absolutely terrified of the NRA and I’d be sad to see that taken away because all of the other groups combined don’t pack the same punch as a well-promoted and focused NRA. Frankly, the NRA is one of the last walls blocking the Left from running amok, so think long and hard before damaging an institution that, with all of its’ warts, is still like the Semple Tank: a lot better than nothing.

      • Caderyn: I agree. We must remain united or if divided we fall. I noticed something odd at a few big shows (SHOT, NRA, SCI, etc.)asking the NRA booth people about a certain government action against gunsmiths, an issue well known among us but apparently unknown to the ILA, as they told me they didn’t know what it was I was talking about (ITAR). They all drew blanks at a couple other questions about competition etc. and I left wondering what they were there for. However, the many many excellent programs they support and encourage make it all worthwhile. My choice? dump NRATV and get it over with. Maybe just make special programs for the Outdoors Channel or something. Withholding one’s membership/dues because of WLP doesn’t help training classes, Olympics, hunting conservation, competition, and fighting the libotards.

        • I agree with most of what you said. Number one for me is NRA has been a bulwark slowing encroachment against the 2nd amendment for many years. While I’m not in favor of unilaterally firing every one of the board members and the EVP, they certainly do have their problems to correct and should be held accountable. Like just about every single entity; business, government , etc. the problem is always management. Mostly the worker bees are a dedicated bunch. They believe in what they are doing. With proper management this NRA can be what most of us here think it should be; pushing to expand all things related to the gun culture covered by the 2nd Amendment. If some heads need to roll, so be it. But let’s not lose sight of the big picture. Can this organization be repaired and strengthened? We’ll see. I for one would like to see more transparency in the business dealings (such as with AM and others) and a return to the core mission instead of trying to be too many things to too many folks.

  9. At least the Board is finally listening to rank and file members like myself LaPierre needs to take a long walk off of a short pier.

  10. Of course I believe this all theater to make it look like the Board is actually listening to its members.

      • We’ll probably find out Bloomberg started this to create descent and division. Now there’s a bastard I do not trust.

    • There isn’t as much money to go around these days. They spent it all on themselves and a lot of people stopped “donating” to them. Now they are fighting over the scraps and blaming each other.

      No honor…

  11. I hope this post will be viewed and re-viewed by the owner of this domain as a part of the 1st Amendment. I am not posting an opinion, I am posting FACTS that are verifiable by a simple web search “did the NRA help draft the National Firearms Act language”.

For too long the name “NRA” is and has been synonymous with “Gun Rights” much in the same way as Aunt Jemima is synonymous with Pancakes and Syrup. It’s what you’ve always been told therefore it must be true…NOT.

An excerpt provided here will hopefully illuminate how the NRA plays both sides of the fence when it is in their favor to do so…and certainly not in favor of the membership at large either in the past or present.

Excerpt from Time Magazine’s review of the NRA: “The NRA assisted Roosevelt in drafting the 1934 National Firearms Act and the 1938 Gun Control Act, the first federal gun control laws.”

Here is the URL for the entire review: http://time.com/4431356/nra-gun-control-history/

    • Negotiating Rights Away since 1934

A list of infringements the NRA was willing to go along with.

      History
1791: The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is ratified.
      The amendment reads:

“A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state,
the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”

      After That
1871: The National Rifle Association was formed by Union Army veterans Col. William C. Church
      and Gen. George Wingate.

After that, they start going the other way

The NRA actively supported the National Firearms Act of 1934.
The NRA actively supported the Federal Firearms Act of 1938
The NRA actively supported the Gun Control Act of 1968
The NRA actively supported the misnamed Firearms Owners Protection Act including the Hughes Amendment (1986)
The NRA actively supported the final version of the Assault Weapons Ban (1994)
The NRA _proposed_ the bump stock ban
The NRA is actively supporting “Red Flag” laws at the state and federal level.

      • I heard they wrote the background check law to have background checks done on all firearms instead of just pistols. They claim they did that to remove the waiting period that was proposed. Now the Democrats want to move onto the next step of creating a database for guns [universal background check]. Is the NRA going to write that one too? All that will be left is digitizing that database. Within a year ~32% of the U.S. now has gun confiscation powers — the Republicans and Democrats want it in all 50 states, even the NRA called for it.

    • Thi is of course true; however, the NRA was a shooting organization devoted to improving the marksmanship of young men, given poor past performance by military recruits and draftees. It was most definitely not a civil rights organization. But times change, and so did the NRA.

    • WTF do I care about what the leadership of the NRA did in 1934 when all of those people are long dead?
The mission of the NRA has changed radically since those FUDD days even those there is still plenty of FUDD.

      You’re just a F’n troll agitator.

      • You don’t care about the NRA’s actions in the 30s, ok. Well how about just the last 30 or so years? Wayne became EVP and CEO in ‘91. So I guess your cool with Brady background check , assault weapons ban 1994, Bump stock ban, and red flag laws.

  12. Now to fire the worthless cork sucker and he can take his wine bottle and club with him.

    • Of course I’ve heard of the GOA–but I have never heard of them actually doing anything except write letters. In California, the NRA has been very active in suing to protect gun rights and engaging in the (futile as it may be) legislative process.

      • Recently I read a press release from the NRA about a California case. They claimed all the responsibility for the case and didn’t mention the actual Californian organization that did that work. I think they only mentioned that organization in the last line of their release.

I heard they did similar things in Washington and Oregon. There are other similar stories of them claiming credit for other organizations’ efforts and using the situation to raise money for the NRA.

  13. We need this kind of fight like we need a socialist-communist nut in the White House!!! Or a Democratic House and Senate!!!

    • Technically, he’s claiming the sleazy PR firm he wasted (likely a literal billion dollars by now) the NRAs money on all these years, are the ones blackmailing him with a letter that looks “bad” for him. Tee hee hee.

        • If he’s guilty yes he needs to step down, however there shouldn’t be a rush to judgement like nut case liberals always does if it isn’t one of their own.

  14. He and many others made a terrible “deal” to quote Orange Man. The NRA tried to appease those who cannot and will not be appeased by being silent when Trump and the ATF committed a crime and ignored the statutes defining what a “machine gun” is. This precedent along with red flag confiscation laws will prove to be a costly mistake sooner rather than later. It has also become crystal clear that with enough time and pressure, the Left will win this fight. We need only look to the state legislatures. All of America will look like Connecticut at best and the UK at worst. And that won’t change because gun owners just don’t care enough about their rights.

    • Speaking of costly; imagine how much more they’d have been able to raise selling NRA-branded bump stocks, instead of banning them & pissing off a ton of members.

    • The biggest problem with firearms Owners is there are far to many Keyboard/Range Commandos and not enough Firearms Owners out there Fighting for Their Rights. I see a lot of commenters on this and other sites. How many of you actually spend any time calling/writing/e mailing or attending meetings with your political leadership. Asking the tough questions and demanding non bullshit answers. My guess it’s damn few. Everybody wants someone else to do the leg work. Then piss and moan when things don’t go your way. It’s His/Her fault. They didn’t do this or they did that. They aren’t fighting hard enough. Make no mistake. I believe Wayne needs to go along with several board members of the NRA. What I question is. When are YOU going to do something? Why are so many firearms Owners willing to Cede The Preservation of Their Rights? To any So Called Organization that they have no control over. If each one of the members of all these organizations would take time to make your voice heard to their political leadership every week. That combined voice would carry far more weight than any so called organization. Millions of voices every week. Showing they really are serious about the Preservation of Their Rights. Simple use the time spent reading and writing on these sites. Use that voice and power instead to pressure those WE put in power to follow Our direction. If You aren’t willing to fight for Yourself. What makes you believe a politician or organization will. When all they want is your vote and money. Keep Your Powder Dry…

      • Calling, writing and emailing? That sounds like it requires some level of intelligent organization and maybe some language skills too…

Fuck that, dude. I’ve got serious shit to do. Like make sure my loadout is just perfect for when the jackbooted tyrants come with their ERPO and I *have* to shoot it out with them while screaming Braveheart quotes and dry humping a picture of Barry Goldwater.

In my spare time, that little which I have, I post to TTAG about my loadout and about freedom (and sometimes about dry humping or homosexual practices) and tell other people that I’m not nuts but that they are, in fact, FUDDs. You know, to get the message out about the currently nearly indescribable need for national arboriculturism starting to-fucking-morrow.

      • Well said ‘Darkman’!! The end result of doing nothing or expecting an organization to do it for you, is futile. I don’t march on the steps of the Capitol, but I do what I can for now.
#1, vote (less then 50% of us vote). #2, writing & calling my Congressman & Senators, along with my state delegate & senator. Sometimes it seems to be a waste of time, especially if their anti-gun Dems. But, if enough people respond, they will hear about it. Too many people, even 2nd Amendment advocates bitch at each other on social media & boards like this & then wonder why ‘fill in the blank’ anti-gun law/bill/ordinance was passed. The NRA is supposed to represent it’s members & if they aren’t, tell them. Don’t just drop your membership, go on record why.
A few things Democrats do very well: stick together regardless of differences, vote, & engage with their representatives. We should & can match them. Even more critical now, with some of the looney tune views on the left & MSM.

    • I heard the supreme court say driving is not a right it’s a privilege. I can’t expect the average American to know their natural rights when the supreme court considers traveling and owning technology/property that aids in that travel to not to be a human right.

    • “Wayne and Ollie are embarrassments to the organization and need to GO.”

      Well, about Ollie….

Thought he was a just a celebrity face with no power, no ability to influence NRA. Looks like Ollie brought some fire to the picnic.

      • Wayne’s now claiming Ollie is blackmailing him, so he’s apparently got that sort of power, lol

  15. Let the revolt begin! Lets see how this convention goes!

I will say that if you look at the last batch of major SC victories in terms of firearms, they weren’t the NRAs but other orgs. That’s quite shameful considering they don’t really have the resources that the NRA does and they still got it done.

  16. As Wayne and AM and perhaps Ollie each start slinging mud around, I have to figure that I believe somewhere between 50-75% of the allegations each is making about the other — which is more than sufficient to convince me that ALL OF THEM need to go away.

Let’s face it, the NATIONAL Rifle Association has NEVER accomplished anything to support the Right to Keep and Bear Arms — the few victories attributable to “the NRA” have been primarily (or entirely in many cases) the work of state level organizations of gun owners who are members of the NRA.

  17. Wayne La Pierre, Chris Cox, and Oliver North are all terrible leaders for the NRA. Please get some new leadership. Their narrow minded focus on puffing up each whiff of a threat to the second amendment reeks of midway carnival style hustling. I don’t listen to a word they say and they’re tone deaf to the folks in the middle we may try to court.

This dude doesn’t need to worry about blackmail; he ought to resign because he’s doing a shitty job. And getting paid way too much to do it.

    • Exactly how I feel about all that paper they stuff in my mailbox non-stop. And all those dire warnings of impending doom in every magazine they send me. It’s as if there is no event or news that they cannot turn into a marketing effort to get me to send in money or be certain to lose all my personal freedoms.

  18. Yeah it’s quite the soap opera. Wayne accusing Ollie of double dipping from both the NRA and the PR firm. The PR firm and Ollie threatening to reveal dirty secrets about Wayne if he doesn’t resign.

Just kick the whole damned bunch out and fix the NRA. I don’t believe in scrapping things, just toss the dead wood, the morons and the dishonest money grubbing bastards and fix it. We need an NRA, badly, just not with these people running the show.

  19. Oliver is one shady operator. I believe Wayne’s story (not the same as support), and I believe at this time Oliver is positioning to grab the EVP spot. If they had anything concrete and actionable they would have used it and Ol’ Ollie would sail into the job.

    • Exactly. The crack pipes in Fairfax must have been white hot when they brought that clown on board. My father offered me a life membership as a birthday gift shortly after they announced North. I declined.

North is emblematic of a fundamental problem with the NRA. The NRA has become an organization exists entirely within the Washington bubble. Their focus is clearly on glad handing law makers, PR deals and spooning the RNC (while stuffing as much into their pockets as possible). Somewhere along the way they seem to have gotten the impression that the grassroots exists to serve the NRA, not the other way around.

I don’t know if there is a way to fix this, short of the NRA packing up and moving back to America. I do know, that cleaning out the vermin certainly can’t make things worse.

  20. I wonder how many people the PR firm is paying to gin up and stoke anti-NRA sentiments in the comments and other social media?

    • The PR firm pays me nothing.
Matter of fact, when you have obvious kickbacks and nepotism going on it’s sorta mandatory to make not-for-profit comments – if you have ethics or some sort of moral foundation to do so, that is.
Some people aren’t for sale. If that was a common moral value in a lot of people the materialistic money-grubbing the Commies complain about so much wouldn’t be an issue up for discussion.

      • It used to be about the American dream: Earn your way. Now it’s steal your way: I got mine!

When the ship is sinking they think no one will notice them stealing the valuables. Some say they are the ones that poked the holes in the boat.

  21. I want from total indifference to N.R.A. to WTF with Norths appointment to ” you’ve got to be fucking kidding me ” with the bump stock / Red Laws support . I just shook my head in disbelief when I heard NRA has a ” Wine Club ” ….. ( proof of total disconnect from its mission )

Meanwhile G.O.A. grows larger , fights back and won’t compromise.

    • Hey, bro! Where is grandma and grandpa going to hang out with fellow NRA members if not at their expensive wine club? They also need a lot of money to buy fancy clothes for their wine tastings. Let them spend all the money on having fun before they hit the dirt.

      Respect your elders!

  22. I’ve been a member for 45 years. Time for a change of command. Thank you for your service, Mr LaPierre. You have been handsomely compensated but it’s time for you to go.

  23. Quite often, firearms owners are their own worst enemies. The duck hunters don’t like the AR-15 “black rifles” so they see no problem if attempts are made to ban them. The traditional rifle owners don’t like machine guns, so they have no problem with them being legislated out of existence. Some pistol owners see nothing wrong with certain long guns being outlawed just as some rifle owners would have no problem seeing pistols banned. You see, anti-gunners want them all. They will chip away a little at a time until their goal of civilian disarmament is complete. They have an excuse for banning every firearm. Scoped bolt-action rifles are defined by anti-gunners as “sniper rifles” because they are “too accurate”. Magazine-fed weapons are suspect because of high (actually normal) magazine capacity. Handguns are suspect because they are “easily concealable”. The gun grabbers want them all and have made (flimsy and suspect) excuses for banning every type of firearm. They don’t care how long it takes. and will use incrementalism to their advantage.
Friends, ALL firearms advocates must “hang together” and realize that an assault on ANY means of firearms ownership and self-defense is an assault on ALL forms of firearms ownership and self-defense.
There is absolutely NO ROOM for complacency among ANY Second Amendment supporters. An attack on one is an attack on ALL…
ALL firearms laws are unconstitutional on their face. Imagine the hue and cry if “reasonable” restrictions were placed on First Amendment activities, especially with the “mainstream media”. The Second Amendment is clear–what part of “shall not be infringed” do politicians and the media not understand…of course, they understand full well…it’s part of their communist agenda…
Even the NRA bears some responsibility for capitulation on matters concerning firearms. The NRA failed when it allowed the National Firearms Act of 1934 to stand without offering opposition, the 1968 Gun Control Act, the NICS “instant check” system, the “no new machine gun for civilians” ban in 1986, the so-called “assault weapons” ban in 1994, and other infringements of the Second Amendment. Let’s face it. What better way to increase membership than to “allow” infringements to be enacted and then push for a new membership drive. Yes, the NRA has done good, but its spirit of “compromise” will only lead to one thing…confiscation.
If the NRA is truly the premier “gun rights” organization, it must reject ALL compromise…

    • “Quite often, firearms owners are their own worst enemies. ”

Yeah. No body needs a gun to hunt, or target practice, or sport; there are plenty of rocks around. And sticks. Good enough for our ancestors, or we wouldn’t be here. Rocks are great stealth weapons; silent but deadly. There are endless varieties of slingshots, and for sticks the humble atlatl has served humanity for centuries. Guns are too noisy, give away your position, and subject to breakdowns. Even if your sling shot breaks, you can still throw rocks. Let us return to those thrilling days of yesteryear when we could bring home the bacon without waking the baby.

      • That’s why I am so much against any form of gun bans. If they can take one kind then they will try their best to take the rest.

        • “That’s why I am so much against any form of gun bans. If they can take one kind then they will try their best to take the rest.”

Any attempt to ban rocks or sticks would be fun to watch. Of course, self-defense as a whole could be banned. Wouldn’t have to inventory and register every rock and stick on the planet.

      • Most people think that the 2nd Amendment is about guns, it’s definitely not solely about firearms.

The argument that the 2nd Amendment is only about muskets is absolutely unworkable if you point out swords and bows are weapons/arms. Would they like me to carry around a Japanese sword and a modern bow/crossbow? I bet they would quickly move on to control those like some states do. After all, we can’t have decapitations happening in public! It’s way too gory and barbaric to have limbs hacked off. Imagine what the emergency rooms would look like. We would have actual ninjas in the malls and vikings conquering the small people.

It happens not that far away from the U.S. A lot of these types of guys have already moved to the states:

  24. I guess my problem is the NRA has become more of a business that a gun rights organization. Cigars, wine and toons of other stuff for sale (but no clothing for tall people). I know they do some good and like with a number of ‘big businesses’ they get bogged down in stuff that doesn’t directly relate to gun rights and promoting the positive image of our lifestyle.

There is no doubt a lot to this story that we don’t know, perhaps from both sides, no doubt from both sides. And this is a political hot bed. Too many of the politicians out there seem to want to strip away out rights. While there have been times I wondered if Wayne had our best interest at heart, most of the time he seems too. Do we need a change? Maybe so, but I doubt it should stop with Wayne if we do.

    • Out with the old, in with the new.

The NRA is controlled by old men. It does not reflect the newer generations. There needs to be proper representation or it will wither away and die off when it’s current membership moves onto the next life.

This transition is past due, it’s almost too late. Once the Democrats get their foothold the NRA will be irrelevant because it will be just a bunch of old hunters complaining about not being able to shoot fluffy animals for fun.

  25. I am an NRA Endowment member and care more about the NRA’s willingness to compromise the second amendment even further than it has already been compromised. Enough already the left does not give a damn about real public safety they use that to little by little effectively eliminate the second amendment. And stop soft selling it its not mainly so you can hunt or even protect your home it so you can repeat 1776 if necessary. The declaration of independence is the explanation. These red flag laws cannot be tolerated. Its time to reorganize the people militia to protect our rights AND our sovereignty No more BS we are giving away the store in the name of public safety.

  26. One of the coments were about the NRA calling alot to get renewals. I watch my caller ID. I have 3years membership and I have contributed a time or two. I am retired and just getting by. I can’t afford paying out all the time. My suggestion is maybe the hit the whole nation for memberships. It probly is hard gettin names and address but they’d spread around more and fing more members. I am a hunter and don’t want to lose my rights. We need every voter to get out and vote every election to help control anti gunners . Thats probly our best chance.

  27. I am a Life member.
I would like to see a full investigation on the facts stated in the letter.
Remember that Col. North was investigated in the Contra affair.
Before any action is taken, let’s get all the facts.

  28. The Brady bill was written by the NRA. How did that help the gun owners of America?

  29. Wayne your a fucking traitor. You are a backdoor communist. the NRA needs to take SFC Patton off your donor list.. General Patton would of SMACKED YOU TWICE, YOU COWARD.
