The pastor in Washington State who stopped a one-man crime wave by shooting a carjacker has come forward with his first-hand account. The incident last week made the national news. Moreover, it showed once more how the only thing that stops bad people with evil in their hearts is a good guy with a gun.

The good Christian, now identified as David George (above), intervened to stop the berserk criminal only when he saw mortal danger to additional innocent lives. No intelligent or rational person would call the card-carrying good guy a trigger-happy cowboy. No, this religious man was a reluctant participant.

According to reports, George initially wanted to remain anonymous to protect his ministry, the Oakville, Washington Assembly of God church. However, with word leaking out, a local media frenzy about his heroic acts made him reconsider. Moreover, witnesses and family members of the other victims had lauded Pastor George to no end.

Not only did George — an EMT — stop the violent criminal, but he also provided medical aid to a twice-shot victim of the attacker, saving that man’s life as well.

Here is his entire statement, as reported by KOMO News.

“My family and I were at Wal-mart on Sunday afternoon to make an exchange. I was speaking with an employee at the customer service desk while my wife, daughter, and grand-daughter were in a check-out line to purchase additional items.

“I heard shots fired near the back of the store. I am a concealed weapon carrier and permit holder, with significant training in the use of firearms and some of the legalities involved in a defensive encounter. As a volunteer firefighter I have also received active shooter training. In addition, I am also a credentialed range safety officer. I train regularly to be proficient with the firearm I carry and to do so in a safe and responsible manner.

“All that to say, I was sure it was gunshots I heard and I was familiar with how I should respond, while considering mine and the public’s safety in the setting of this large store. I was concerned for my own family and sought to find them and exit the building. My daughter, recognizing gunshots, also gathered her daughter and moved quickly to exit the building.

“I did not see my wife and so I continued to look for her as people began to realize the situation and run out of the building. At no time did I draw my firearm in the building.

“While doing so, the gunman came past me waving and pointing his gun and exited the building. I followed carefully, along with another citizen carrying a firearm, unaware of what the shooter would do next or where he would do it.

“The gunman attempted to get a car and when he failed moved to another screaming at the driver. He then shot two times into the driver’s side of the vehicle. When the driver did not or could not respond to his threats he began to travel in the direction that I thought my family to be.

‘At this point I left cover and moved to intercept the gunman. When the gunman began threatening another person for the use of their car, I moved in order to have a safe shot at the gunman. He entered the vehicle, which I considered an even bigger threat and fired to stop the shooter.

“After being hit, the gunman tried to exit the vehicle and fell to the ground. I moved to clear the gunman yelling to him to drop the gun and show me his hands. I determined the gunman was incapacitated and unable to respond at this time.

“It was then that I heard someone associated with the previous gunshot victim yelling for help that her friend/husband had been shot. I directed the other armed citizen to remain with the gunman and retrieved my jump bag/first aid bag from my nearby vehicle in order to render aid to the previous gunshot victim. I am an EMT with Oakville Fire Dept. and I responded as my duty and training instructed.”

George added: “I acted on Sunday to protect my family and others from the gunman and his display of obvious deadly intent. This is in accordance with both by training as an emergency responder and calling as a pastor, husband, father and grandfather.

“I am grieved that the shooter’s reckless actions endangered and hurt numerous individuals and demanded that he be stopped before doing more harm. My family, my congregation and I are praying for the gunshot victim’s full recovery and for all those that are suffering as a result of Sunday night’s tragic events, including the shooter’s family.”

Seldom do we have this opportunity to hear about deadly force incidents from a first-hand perspective. Pastor George demonstrated exemplary decision-making, tactics and, yes, shooting. He had the knowledge, skills and equipment to save the lives of one of the wounded.

Plenty of The People of the Gun have undergone training in how to poke holes in bad guys. Unfortunately, far fewer have sought out training to stop leaks.

I consider myself well-trained, practiced and experienced. But I can only aspire to do as well as Pastor George if, God forbid, I ever find myself in a similar situation. This guy did everything right. Of course, you will never hear Shannon Watts or Everytown for Civilian Disarmament offering any praise for this good guy with a gun.

To say nothing of the pastor’s credit is his praise for a fellow good guy who assisted in ending the criminal’s rampage.

Here’s more from the KOMO report:

Shaken witnesses at the shooting scene described George as a hero for his actions that prevented further bloodshed.

“He is a hero,” says Brian Adams, who was at the scene and saw the Walmart customer pull out his own weapon and shoot the gunman. “I really think more people could easily have been shot with what this guy was doing. He was just – there were several shots.”

The gunman, later identified as Tim Day, 44, of McCleary, had earlier carjacked or attempted to carjack several other vehicles, opening fire at the vehicles’ occupants and injuring two other innocent victims.

In the process, he drove erratically the wrong way down Highway 101 and crashed at least one vehicle before finally winding up at the Walmart store, where he went inside and opened fire at an ammunition display case before stalking out into the parking lot.

“This was a traumatic experience for us and all of those involved,” George said Wednesday.

“If it wasn’t for you my dad would probably be dead,” said Rickey Fievez’s son Kyle. Rickey was severely wounded when Day shot him twice. George tended to his wounds moments after shooting Day.

George stopped the threat, then continued to save lives with his medical training. That’s going above and beyond the call of duty.

Smart money says President Donald Trump recognizes Pastor George in the near future for his exemplary performance. It would be an honor well deserved.

  1. …and that’s why the national media are ignoring it as hard as possible.

Why, I bet he isn’t even a racist!

    • To: No one of consequence,

Yup. Although, Fox news did have more coverage of his statement since day one. I remember Pastor George saying why he carries a CCW and mentioning that it’s the same reason he carries his medic bag. He prays he never has to use either, but he’s prepared for an emergency.

Of course, this information is conveniently left out in all the current videos and articles that pop up on the internet.

Truth being told, Pastor George is the epitome of what a good citizen is all about; a humble man with a huge heart that’s guided by faith, trained and equipped so others may live. God bless him and the other armed samaritan for a job well done. A Sheepdog at his best.đź‘Ź

    • He’s a straight, white, Christian, male. He must be a racist, misogynistic, homophobe. The media tells me that all the time, so it must be true.

    • Good work, Sheepdog! The Shepherd would be proud.
There are three types of people: wolves, sheep, and sheepdogs. The wolves prey on the sheep and are afraid of the sheepdogs. The sheepdogs serve the Shepherd and protect the Flock. The sheep just want to eat their grass and wish to be left in peace; but even though the sheepdogs are there to protect them – from the sheep’s perspective, the sheepdog still looks an awful lot like a wolf. This is why the sheep want the sheepdogs to have their teeth (guns) taken away. They see little difference between the sheepdogs and the wolves. But even if the sheepdogs pull their teeth and turn to eating grass, the wolves will not. Sheepdogs, do not give up your guns or your right to fight back, no matter how loudly the sheep may bleat.

  2. I hope an overzealous prosecutor and turf-protective police department do not go after this pastor.
Let’s face it… For almost every cop, making it to a cushy retirement is the ultimate goal. All one has to do is look at the (in)action of the police officers during the last number of mass school shootings, where these “trained professionals” SAT ON THEIR HANDS while the carnage was going on. You can bet that us military veterans in such a case would be drawn TOWARD the sound of gunfire. Today’s human nature dictates that the person with all of the “training” (especially) “law enforcement” DOES cower in fear, while a 90 lb. armed teacher would reluctantly, but successfully “take out” the shooter. Being “forced” into a situation also forces one to act. There are many examples of persons, who one would normally think, would not be capable of acting in an extremely high-stress situation, but DO come out on top–stopping the threat, and saving lives. Sad to say, today’s police practices dictate that the cop’s life is MORE IMPORTANT than that of those he has sworn to protect despite the cops having statutory protections that do not apply to us ordinary civilians.
All one has to do is look at the Medal of Honor recipients, who are almost always mild-mannered, initially reluctant to act, but DO act, and perform feats who most would think are normally beyond their capacity and capabilities–TRUE bravery in the heat of battle. The same applies to those civilians who act during school shootings.
Human nature has a habit of propelling (actually forcing) the normal, average person into a true “hero” and life saver, while showing the true (cowardly behavior) nature of those we assign to protect us. A good example of our “protectors” cowering in fear is the deputies who FAILED TO ACT despite having all of the equipment necessary and the preferential laws on their side (that protect them from lawsuits and liability).
TRUE heroes ACT, while our so-called “protectors” (failed to) REACT.

    • The cops already cleared him before he decided to go public.

If a publicity hogging prosecutor wants to go after him, he’ll have to go the Grand Jury route.

I’m not sure what, if any laws are in place to protect him from civil suit.

      • Washington State does have a law that prevents civil suits in justified self defense cases.

        • And what’s more, if prosecuted and found that he acted in self defense, all his legal fees are reimbursed. Few prosecutors go after clearly self-defense shootings, even in rabidly-liberal Seattle.

  3. Smart money says President Donald Trump recognizes Pastor George in the near future for his exemplary performance. It would be an honor well deserved.

That would be a horrible thing to do considering how long it took for the waffle house savior to get his props. The media will say Trump is a racist because he didn’t want to thank the unarmed black guy but he was quick to thank the white guy who works for the government.

  4. When you read through this statement, he hits all the notes. I don’t think a lawyer could make much critical commentary on the Pastor’s statement there.

The press will work overtime to ignore this incident.

    • Pssst…..when the pastor was writing that statement, he wasn’t touched by an angel. He touched by an attorney.

  5. That is exactly what it takes to change people’s view on guns . It proves a gun is just a tool nothing more or less it can do nothing on it’s own. People kill people not guns and new gun laws will do nothing to stop the mass shootings in our school;s or any where else. These people are all cowards and the more good people that are armed the better, maybe it will cause these nuts to think twice before pulling a gun when they realize they might be the one who gets shot

  6. It takes a good man with a gun to stop an evil man with a gun. Of course the news media & liberal left will not put this out as all they want to do is show all the bad stuff & blame all the good gun owners for it happening. And to try & force what they want on us & take our rights away. Well excuse my French but screw all the gun grabbers.
