From the CCRKBA . . .

Democrats in the Washington State Legislature put politics ahead of constitutional rights Saturday when they voted 27-21 to approve House Bill 1240, which bans the future sale, manufacture and importation of so-called “assault weapons,” the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

“Contrary to Democrats in Olympia, who sound like they’re reading from the same script, modern semiautomatic firearms are not ‘weapons of war’,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “This ban will not improve public safety, as proponents such as Attorney General Bob Ferguson have asserted. It will only impair the rights of law-abiding citizens, while doing absolutely nothing to prevent criminals from committing murder and mayhem, and they know it.”

The legislation, which goes back to the House for concurrence, does not ban possession of semiautomatic rifles, shotguns or handguns by people who already own them.

“One or more lawsuits challenging this legislation will almost certainly be filed within days, if not hours, of Gov. Jay Inslee’s signing,” Gottlieb predicted. “Ultimately, we expect this law to be nullified by the courts as a violation of the Second Amendment and Washington State’s constitution. In the meantime, of course, Evergreen State gun owners will continue to be treated like second-class citizens by the self-righteous zealots behind the ban, while the criminal element will remain undeterred and unencumbered.

“Proponents of this legislation have touted the results of a poll done last year by the Northwest Progressive Institute showing that 56 percent of Washington voters support a ban,” he continued. “What they overlook is that constitutional rights are not subject to popularity polls, a fact we expect the courts to remind them about in the days ahead.

“The truly sad part about this is that people who have been gulled into believing a gun ban will have any major impact on violent crime are going to find out the hard way they were misled by the gun prohibition lobby,” Gottlieb observed. “All this accomplishes is that it gives anti-gunners an excuse to celebrate at the expense of law-abiding Washington citizens who have committed no crime, and whose only sin is that they choose to exercise a constitutionally protected right. Where’s the justice, or even the logic, in that?”

    • Obviously responding to Gun Control democRats with, “Banning firearms will have no effect on crime” is dead in the water.

Gottlieb, Hannity, Bongino et al…Try Defining Gun Control as a History Confirmed agenda Rooted in racism and genocide. Saying anything less amounts to aiding and abetting Gun Control.

      https://youtu.be/WlItbl9SOAg

      • Rolling eyes,,, Do you think Democrats really give a damn about racism, any more than they care about crime? Their whole thing is about control. If they are “antiracist” now it’s only because it fits with their eventual goals.

        • Democrats are openly pro-racism now, as long as it’s targeted against specific individuals.

Democrats are openly pro-crime. Their legislative agenda proves that.

Democrats are openly about controlling the law-abiding. Just look at what effort it took for Biden to let go of the COVID emergency authorization.

Democrats are anti-economic growth. Look at any of the EOs and regulations coming from the Executive Branch since Biden entered the White House.

Democrats are anti-constitution (government control over all aspects of our lives) and anti-American (taking away freedom and stepping on civil rights daily) and anti-reality (trans pretender movement).

But, at least they don’t sent mean tweets… Except that they do.

      • And speaking of Democrats – “A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.” ― Taylor Caldwell, A Pillar of Iron

If Sam Colt’s pistol made all men equal, what is the consequence of gun confiscation? If you fear the night now, just wait until the Democrats take your guns. What are you going to do when the boogieman cometh, ladies? The boogie man will not give up his weapons, and may not need them if he is bigger, faster, or stronger than you. The theory that criminals who are willing to ignore laws against rape, torture, kidnapping, theft, and murder will obey a law which prohibits them from accessing a firearm is outright naïve, and dangerous. I suggest that all the Liberal twits, twinks and sheep who vote Democrat look up what happened in South Africa at the end of Apartheid with the increase in gun control legislation, and corruption. There have been approximately 7000 murders so far this years (2023, Jan-Mar) in SA; based on population, that would be 49,000 in the U.S. Think about that you sheep out there ranting for more gun control. It will never be enough, and when the guns are gone you will see real pain and suffering, and you will no longer be a free people.

“If gun laws in fact worked, the sponsors of this type of legislation should have no difficulty drawing upon long lists of examples of criminal acts reduced by such legislation. That they cannot do so after a century and a half of trying – that they must sweep under the rug the southern attempts at gun control in the 1870-1910 period, the northeastern attempts in the 1920-1939 period, the attempts at both Federal and State levels in 1965-1976 – establishes the repeated, complete and inevitable failure of gun laws to control serious crime.” ~ Orrin Hatch

  1. Yeah, the Progressive Authoritarians are strong in Washington State. They are prohibiting threaded barrels as well as MSR’s. I was wondering the other day if their threaded barrels ban includes shotguns with threaded chokes? Could not find any reference under the -shotguns- part of their draconian (proposed) law. If you scare enough Fudds about their sacred huntin’ / skeet / trap / 5-stand shotguns then, maybe, there will be enough pushback to their other egregious firearm legislation to achieve some balance in their State governing bodies.

    • Not a chance. Insleaze and Fergeeze are past any point of rationality when it comes to firearms. There are ot enough shotgun owners in the state to counteract their perversion.

I do wonder, though…. not yet clear… a few years back Bloomburg bought us a law declaring a wide variety of rifles to be “assault weapons” by definition. I went to bed tuesday noght of election day not owning a single “assault rifle” of any sort. When I woke up Wednesday morning I learned I had about lanf a dozen of them, and had not spend a pluged nickel. HOW can this be? Their “definition” for an “assaut rifle” was changed to include my Ruger 10/.22’s, my Marlin and Remongdon smiantuoamtic .22 wrf ling guns, and my old Browning BAR in .30/06. I wonder if those guns would now be prohibited items for purchase in this state? Last numbrer I saw, there were somewhere above 50 million of the venerable 10/22 Rugers in the US. I’m certain I personally have seen many thousands of them. Are these all now “banned”? good luck proving those are not “in common use”. I cannot think of anyone I know who owns ANY firearm who does not own a Ruger 10/.22

  2. There is NOT 1 state on the west coast that is NOT a socialist shithole.
Whatever crusades they start in California goes to Wash next then to Oregone,
Dem majority in all three states, all three states are under control of the I-5 corridor. (The big ultra liberal college city’s) G O P or any other voter groups don’t stand a chance.
This is why half the states people want to split up or belong to a neighboring state.

    • From the experience in Upstate NY in store availability. Otherwise unless your state police gets a taste for going hard on new laws you are essentially right.

    • Except that they have, by this “law” banned the sale/purchase of what they now call “assault weapons”. In other wirds, o FFL in the state would be able to carry them. The state aplready has andated a special tax on that class of firearm only, a ten daywaiting period, and now ALL sales of firearms in the state are processed through the County Sheriff, but that is soon changing to the State Patrol. In otehr wirds WSP will have ato “approve’ any sale of any “assault weapon” in the state. I believe this move (to WSP running the background checks statewide) was carefuly put in place to enforce this law, now planned for a long time.

I guess we’ll have to find sources for 80% lowers and start building our own. The other bits to “manufacture” an “assault rifle” are not controlled. but watch. That will be their next move.

Furher, watch as crime and urder rates do not change by one nanometre going forward.
Sooner or later enough folks here will be shaken awake and get just about mad enough to rise up and “trow da bums OUTT”.

  3. here i fixed the headline:
Hope Over Experience: Washington Dems Pass California-Style ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban Claiming The Greater Idaho Movement Is Of No Real Concern To Them

  4. these are the same legislators who violated the WA state constitution’s ban on an income tax by simply calling it a “capital gains tax”. They also keep pushing increased density in cities and are removing roads in favor of bike paths.

The Democratic party is about collectivism and control. they have a vision where we all live in our 15 minute cities, own nothing, and are happy little slaves. in a way it’s worse than Soviet communism, because at least the Soviets could say it had never been tried before.

    • If you have ever read the Communist Manifesto and the works of the revolution’s philosophers, antagonists and leaders, you will find a great similarity between what they preached and their tactics, and the tactics the so called Democrats are using to bring down our constitution, culture and rule of law. It starts with destroying the economy (“The best way to destroy the capitalist system is to debauch the currency.” – Lenin) and middle class (“The way to crush the bourgeoisie, now the middle class, is to grind them between the millstones of taxation and inflation.” – Lenin), while simultaneously attacking religion, values and culture (“Atheism is a natural and inseparable part of Marxism, of the theory and practice of scientific socialism. Our program necessarily includes the propaganda of atheism.” – Vladimir Lenin), and ends with disarming the People (Social-Democrats are urged to “demand” “disarmament”!; You must act with all energy. Mass searches. Execution for concealing arms. – Lenin).

These few quotes barely touch on the similarities between what the Democrats are now doing and Communist ideology and tactics. One of the funny things is that the “soldier” of violence, chaos, and destruction of culture and values will be right behind the Patriots on the march to the Gulags. “People always have been and they always will be stupid victims of deceit and self-deception in politics.” – Lenin; “A lie told often enough becomes the truth.” – Lenin.

The Democrats are attempting a soft revolution, moving the country to a new world order where the WEF and such rule the world as their own, and the people are but lowly inhabitants selected and used as seen fit for the elite rulers. The biggest obstacle is, or was, the United States with its republican democracy and the power it held in world politics, which Biden has purposely destroyed by dismantling the Union (political, racial and class division) and debauching the Constitution, our laws, values, culture, economy and armed forces. He is administering the Republic like a tyrant who has no interest in the good of the people or our influence on the world stage. I really believe that his corruption in matters of government and personal finance is being used by nefarious countries to control him. Maybe it is time: “A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks.” – Thomas Jefferson.

And on the question of “military-style weapons in the hands of the citizen, Founding Father Alexander Hamilton put it this way: “…that standing army can never be formidable (threatening) to the liberties of the people, while there is a large body of citizens, little if at all inferior to them in the use of arms.”

“The prohibition is general. No clause in the Constitution could by any rule of construction be conceived to give to Congress a power to disarm the people. Such a flagitious attempt could only be made under some general pretense by a state legislature. But if in any blind pursuit of inordinate power, either should attempt it, this amendment may be appealed to as a restraint on both.” ~ William Rawle

Finally, wheeee, and I got a million more!

  5. I realize many of the organizations are hemorrhaging funds filing lawsuit after lawsuit to fight these Constitutional incurments. Please, please tell me someone, somewhere is going to file a lawsuit against even one politician for removal of office permanently because of breaking their oath when they took office. This isn’t going to stop until it gets legally personal. Otherwise, these folks will continue to believe they are immune from the law and their Constitutional commitment.

  6. If the State of Washington believes that banning AR’s will reduce crime, they are in for a very rude awakening.

    • Not do long as they can blame the failure on lack of a national law, allowing “grandfatheted” weapons, etc., etc. The failure is never because the gun control law was useless, it’s always because it wasn’t strict enough.

      • Luckily we already tried that nonsense with the AWB back in the 90s so we can casually dismiss it as false and let them try to defend wasting more money for no solutions at the National level while various state level courts slowly work up to circuit level decisions on the matter. With that said make sure you turn out to vote in 24.

      • sorta like communism. The eedjits firmly proclaim that the system s very goodm and it really works.. its just that no one has “dine it right” yet. So we MUST try one more time……

who was i famously defined insanity as trying again the thing that has never worked yet?

Disgustong part is I FEED these corruptocrats with my tax dollars.

        • Those fools advocating for Communism have never had to suffer under it. To think that THEY could somehow do it right shows just how damned dumb they are. And even if they brutally suffered under such a system they swore would work this time, they still wouldn’t learn after it failed. Again. They would simply blame the rest of us for it failing.

      • “If gun laws in fact worked, the sponsors of this type of legislation should have no difficulty drawing upon long lists of examples of criminal acts reduced by such legislation.

    • true enough, but the evil of politics is that they drag down and destroy their subjects with their rotten laws and policies.

  7. I have tried to find a list of banned parts, but have not been successful. Does the bill say that all threaded barrels will be banned? There was an amendment that failed saying all threaded barrels were ok.

    • The bill is specifically vague on purpose. Any part that could be used to make/assemble an assault weapon. So yes, a threaded barrel and even a gas tube roll pin. No Bueno.

  8. From the Federalists: ” . . .legalizes personal possession of any illicit substance, like heroin, cocaine, and opioid pills. ” If all these dangerous, addictive drugs remain available, guns will always be available to those same drug users. Good by Washington.

  9. This bill is super scary. Read the fine print. It’s way beyond what’s in CA’s AWB law. It even bans spare parts that COULD be used to build an AW. Practically any semi-auto rifle is now an AW. Follow WA Gun Law on U-tube for a full analysis of the three gun bills pending in WA. Hope this will all be nullified by Benitez future decision. That man’s family fled Castro’s communist utopia and understands the Constitution says what it means and means what it says. Every liberal, millennial & gen z’er needs to spend a year in North Korea, Cuba or Syria for a real education.

    • “Hope this will all be nullified by Benitez future decision.”

Get it in front of a judge ASAP to put a stay on it…

  10. They need to pass a federal law that any legislator local, state or federal who votes for a law that has already been determined to be unconstitutional is subject to a fine and jail sentance.
Most of these laws being passed have already been overturned by the courts or the recent Bruen decision. This one will not stand up in court.

    • No, but it will cost someone on our side with limited funding millions to get it overturned. Meanwhile, government entities with unlimited funds (us) will file suit after suit, and make law after law. Death by a thousand paper cuts – by design. Anyone who doubts the Third War Civil is on the near horizon is effing clueless

  11. This bill has confiscation tucked away in it. Current owners can keep their firearms and these firearms can be inherited provided the inheritor can show proof that the previous owner had the firearm when the governor signed the law(It goes into effect the instant it’s signed). The inheritor didn’t own the firearm when the law passed, so the next generation can’t take possession legally. Delayed confiscation is still confiscation.

    • Not enforceable. SInce no new ones can be sold in the state, the only ones in possession will have serial numbers showing production’sale prior to the ban. Anyone inheriting that rifle cam simply claim to have had it before the ban, and no one can prove oterhsise. Finding used out of state and brining them in will also become a thing..for personal use only you must understand.
Further, a case of 80% lowers can be the “seed bag” for a whole new crop of them.

      • Watch every parts company like Palmetto State Armory suddenly stop selling to WA.

Gun shows in adjacent states will suddenly get very popular on weekends…

        • Geoff – the only “adjacent states” would be IDAHO – orygun is likely at least as bad as WA. With WSP taking over a large portion of the ‘enforcement’ of much of this ‘legislation’ you can pretty well bank on any vehicle with WA license plates coming back into the state being subject to ‘inspection’ – especially if bats just happen to be monitoring gun shows.

  12. One of the senators tried to amend the bill to include a provision that if the violent crime rate is not reduced by (some amount) within five years, the AWB is null and void.

A perfectly reasonable addition that anyone who truly wants an AWB as a means to reduce crime should be willing to support. Put their money where their mouth is, so to speak.

Unsurprisingly, the amendment was not allowed to be added.

They don’t care about reducing crime, they care about punishing people they find distasteful.

  13. crime will continue until criminals are apprehended and kept behind bars. “symbolism over substance” means the local politicians will have appeared to have accomplished something, while in fact they have made the problems worse.

  14. They might have better luck banning BLM protests, oops, I mean mostly peaceful protests to curb violent crime. Yeah, I know, stating the obvious.

  15. Washington is controlled by liberal extremists concentrated in a couple of cities on the Puget Sound, many of whom are out of state transplants who displaced native Washingtonians. California experienced the same migration of out of staters who completely changed the state’s character.

Democrats are responsible for creating the crime problem because of their 50 year jihad against personal responsibility. Starting with their “altruistic” social programs that destroyed poor inner city families, to their institution of rules that removed the ability of schools to control student’s behavior, to their misplaced “compassion” for criminals and the mentally deranged, Democrats destroyed the social fabric of this Country.

Having created the problem their solution is to mug innocent law abiding citizens with arbitrary and capricious laws and confiscatory tax policies. Have you ever noticed that the places controlled by liberals are the most highly regulated, least free, most highly taxed, and subject to the highest rates of crime?

One can only hope that this draconian over reach will be overthrown by the courts. Unfortunately, the courts have shown more willingness to uphold the liberal partisan views of the judiciary rather than to defend the plain text and spirit of the Constitution.

    Liberalism = tyranny.

    • It will never be overturned by our liberal State Supreme Court, even though Washington’s constitutional firearms protections are arguably stronger than the 2A. This will have to be stopped in Federal court.

      • …they might, if they’re smart enough to realize that if they don’t overturn it, they’re giving the federal Supreme Court a golden opportunity for another Bruen-scale decision.

  16. Had a distant cousin who used to live near Seattle. He moved to North Dakota a couple years ago after retiring from Boeing. Went to ND because of family kids etc.
Said he is overjoyed to get away from the progs and lefties and back where people have some common sense. What is funny is his brother says the same thing about getting out of Minnesota last year. Both now live on family property in ND.
We will see the ban, if left standing after the expected lawsuits, will have no effect on violent crime. As always it is the hand and mind behind the firearm.

  17. Is it just me or did Gov Jay Inslee and state AG Bob Ferguson just engage in a criminal conspiracy to deprive Washington state citizens of their second amendment rights? because when this is struck down by the WA supreme court, let the lawsuits begin…

    • Wally, the Washington supreme court justices are lefty democrats owned by the teachers’ and other state employee unions. As some one noted above, this court allowed an income tax by simply calling it a “capital gains tax”.

Our state constitution has a strong 2A provision, but the court only follows the constitution when it favors the democrats. I suspect that SAF will have to file a Federal lawsuit as the Washington supreme court justices will probably side with the legislature and governor.

  18. Just like Illinois, the commiecrats want to waste tax payer dollars and restrict our 2A rights as long as they can by their firearm bans. Our money and our rights that we have to fight to get back is a waste. The commiecrats know this by the delays in time it takes to eliminate a ban, but they do it anyway knowing they use taxpayer dollars to defend the bans and we must waste our dollars to eliminate the bans in court, which takes time. As long as it takes a long time, the commiecrats take it as a win.

  19. The only thing I see here is, one half, probably the Eastern half of Washington state seceding. Or becoming part of Idaho, but I am not sure what Idaho’s intentions are in this matter either? They have been invaded by a hell of a lot of Californians. Like most states we thought were safe like Arizona, New Mexico, Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, and Texas. I am waiting for Florida to go to shit. It is just a matter of time…

  20. Lets give it a year and see what the numbers say.
Of course the lying Dems who passed this bill will twist the numbers to say their bill worked.
And no one will believe it.
