The Illinois House has adjourned without a vote on the two swords hanging over the heads of gun dealers in the Land o’ Lincoln. SB1657 would have required state-level licensing of gun dealers, adding bureaucracy and, of course, cost to the lawful business of selling firearms.

If SB1657 had passed, SB333 would have a requirement for video cameras throughout the stores. Up to and including bathrooms (all places where firearms are stored, handled, sold, transferred, or carried).

One of the bills’ biggest proponents, State Rep. Kathleen Willis (above), portrayed the bill as benign and pro-business. The legislation, she said, “simply required better business practices. … Gun dealers who are on the straight and narrow have nothing to worry about,” she whined with a straight face on Facebook Live shortly after the legislature shut down. You can hear her sad lament here.

We feel her pain. And we sure you do, too.

  1. Jesus, that thing spent way, way too long guarding her precious in a cave beneath the Misty Mountains…

        • I suggest you apologize to Gimli for that crack about his mom.

Not only is Gimli’s mother far more attractive, Gimli himself carries a battle ax that he seems to know how to use…

I… I thought that pic *was* the crusty, old, battle-axe…

This is why I shouldn’t try to multitask and read TTAG comments while I’m doing something like draining the anti-freeze out of a bike. Now I have a mess to clean up.

          Well played though… Well played.

        • can we please suspend ad hominem bans just this once? she makes me want to kick a sharpei…

water jackets on a bike… quieter, precise heat expansion, higher sustainable compression ratios; radiator, water pump, fan (unless, well, you seem eclectic enough to have an rz, but… ) ugh. i just can’t do it.

      • Are you sure it’s his mother and not his father? Dwarven women are very difficult to tell apart from dwarven men. It has come to the point where there is the common belief that there ARE no dwarven women. Though to be fair, she doesn’t look like a natural sprinter to me.

  2. No wonder Illinois is so screwed up. In session from Jan to Nov.

One of the best things Iowa ever did was to stop paying the varmints per diem after 100days. Tx legislature only meets on odd years for max 140 calendar days.

No man’s life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session.

      • And who knows if those guys are going to be watching diligently, we’ll need people to watch the watchers. And who’s going to watch them?

  3. Better business practices the businesses don’t decide themselves to do … “better” for who?

  4. No it’s not your imagination. “She” really looks like that. Yeah notified on FB we’re “safe” for 3 months. Joy. Rapture. Kinda’ doubt anyone will need a 90 minute course in sexual harassment against “her”(required in Illinois senate/house!)…

  5. If they don’t want people to buy guns, all they have to do is send THAT in to every shop. They’ll be out of business in a week.
