SIG Scorpion with an Olight and Benchmade folder

This daily carry includes a SIG Emperor Scorpion with an Olight and Benchmade folder. John, the owner of the pocket dump, says “I don’t have a holster that the olight will fit in yet, but I carry in an Alien Gear cloak tuck.”

The Alien Gear Cloak Tuck is an IWB hybrid holster. Do you carry IWB or do you prefer an OWB holster with an untucked cover garment?

  1. Actually, I’d like to ask the owner how well that full size 1911 carries in that holster. Because if it carries well, that’s one hell of a holster I’d consider purchasing.

    • I carry a steel frame Commander in an Alien Gear Cloak Tuck 1.0. It disappears under a size large t-shirt on my 5’10” 175# frame. Carry it all day at work in the body shop and in the tow truck. Never been spotted by a co-worker, customer, or even LEOs on accident scenes.

  2. That’s the new Benchmade Bug Out knife in non-blue. Cool Carry blade. Light for true bugging out, but a good choice.

Something else I should look at. I don’t see a Glock anywhere.

  3. I carry a full size Springfield Armory Loaded Operator MC 1911 in 45 pretty much every day. And I use the Aliengear Cloak Tuck 3.0. I find it comfy enough and it conceals well under even a loose T-shirt.

Of course, I’m 6’2″ and wear a size 54 jacket. So, YMMV. However, Aliengear has a great return and “test-drive” policy. I highly recommend you check them out.

    • I liked my Alien Gear but once I switched to carrying with a WML exclusively I had to give AG up. Hopefully they’ll adapt soon!

  4. AG cloak tuck makes my G19 feel like it’s not even there. It’s a good sized holster, but it is comfortable since it conforms to the body. AG gets a bad rap because it isn’t as expensive as some of the other top-tier options out there, but it does the job well for me.

  5. Cool EDC, it’s practical….. Recently I posted about the 1911 I have shoving the bullets into the case when chambering a round. It was Mark H, I believe that suggested the extractor might be to tight, it was, I have noticed that now the ejector has more play in it then it used to have. I’m betting the extractor being as tight as I had it caused the case to pound the ejector.? When I get around to it I think I will pull the ejector and Peen the legs a little, that should fix that, and from now on I’m going to run that extractor just tight enuff to pull the case. Thinking the design of JMB’s 1911 is supposed to be on the loose side of tight tolerances. 1911’s are fun to fck with….. I prefer an IWB

    • Or, just get a Glock and all you have to worry about is shooting it. The 1911 is not considered a relevant fighting pistol anymore.

        • Out of the 100s of thousands of rounds I have shot through my glocks I’ve never had to adjust or tune any of my extractors due to bullet setback. I suppose if you loaded and unloaded the same round dozens of times it could happen. But why would you do that in the first place?

  6. Bullet setback isn’t an issue of the gun as much as the ammo. The throat is too loose. Military spec is crimped, but handloaders avoid doing it as it’s an extra step and it also creates another variable in testing highly refined loads.

For self defense a “highly refined handload” seems to be counterproductive to reliability, that conversation has been going on for decades.

I would sooner used a factory load crimped than “mess” with tuning a gun to the point it’s not capable of operating with anything but the “highly refined handload.” YMMV

  7. IWB with a t-shirt, OWB under my suit.

1911s carry IWB or OWB no problem, as long as you have a good belt. They’re just so nice and slim, but can be heavy.

  8. I think that is a plain ol’ Scorpion…not an Emperor Scorpion…unless the lighting is way off. Sweet pistol. Takes some breaking in but …sweet!

  9. I carry either a Glock 19 in the Alien Gear Cloak Tuck 2 or a commander sized 1911 in the Alien Gear Cloak Tuck 3.5. Both are very comfortable however the newer 3.5 version is better. Even with the heavier 1911 I can barely notice I am wearing a gun. AG makes great holsters.

It also helps to have a good belt. I use a Kore Essentials belt and love it. I would use my Blue Alpha Gear web belt more often if the buckles could make it through belt loops.

  10. I vary between three guns depending on what I’m wearing but the P365 and Glock19 use an IWB. When it’s cold outside and I’m feeling adventurous I use an OWB for my Five Seven since I’ll have a pretty heavy jacket.

Generally subcompact for sporty clothing and the G19 is for normal/heavy. Five Seven is generally winter only. My only gripe with the OWB is it’ll smack walls since you’re unused to it but I couldn’t imagine IWB with this beast as I’m only 5’8” at 160 lbs.
