The reason we have so many juvenile thugs is that the hug-a-thug program has no age limit. Adult criminals are released to train and mentor the next generation of thugs.

I work as a specialist in a juvenile detention center. They do indeed get hot cocoa, no hugs though.
The system as is acclimates them to being criminals. They have criminal family members so they see first hand that life continues behind bars and once out life is often better with respect to street-cred gangsta bullshit. On the juvenile end it’s all “we want to help you” and “we care about you” tripe which viewed through the lens of somebody who doesn’t give a fuck it simply acknowledgment of your weak, victim status.
The problem with the criminal justice system is the folks on the justice side have absolutely no clue what it’s like being on the criminal side. Everything they think they know comes from academic masturbation and interviews with criminals who are, as criminals do, gaming and conning them.
As somebody who worked in corrections for awhile, this is absolutely spot on. I suspect you’re LE, CO, or have been. Honestly, most of the adult systems are super hug a thug, depending on the state. Feds are huggers too, just ask how many career criminals would pick the Fed system over any state one. There’s an absolute lack of punitive focus, instead everything is focused on “re-entry” programs aimed at lowering recidivism. This is great in theory, except for that it never works in practice.
Hug a thug. And then check you still have your wallet.
The real problem is that we put the youngsters in with the hard bitten, instead of forcing them to attend school. They do their learning after they have already become baby daddies.
The problems are seen in school, by the teachers and administrators. We need to get tough on them, take them out of the hood and put them elsewhere to make them learn, without the baby mommas to distract them. They need structured care. We need to break them of the thug life and force them to stand on their own two feet.
It isn’t easy, it isn’t cheap, but you get back what you teach. Their are many good men that have turned their back on the thug life, the problem is they have records and no one will hire them. Many go straight through religion or just because they finally grew up. The thug life isn’t so great when they are in their 30s and 40s.
The real problem is that these animals have no respect for human life because they are just paychecks for their mommas and are never taught morals or decency. The thing from the article that made me wonder if it was a typo was the statement that his record goes back to 2005, heās 18 now in 2017 which would have made him 6 in 2005. Six. SIX YEARS OLD and heās got a record. That would not have been his fault, but his parent(s), guardian(s), āadult(s)ā in his life. A six year old should have an understanding of right and wrong, but should not be put in the opportunity to commit a prosecutable crime.
Current methods to treat criminogenic juveniles
does not work. The fact is, juveniles diagnosed with conduct disorder only understand methods used in a correctional mileiu. They do not belong in residential or out patient treatment.
The vast majority come from homes without role models. Or anything else. You get what you raise.
The problem is that there shouldn’t be such a thing as a person with multiple felony convictions. Anyone with more than two should be a corpse. Cleaner streets; less full prisons.
Simple and clean solution for criminals convicted of a third felony:
(1) Designate a small secluded island (about 1 mile diameter).
(2) Air drop the criminal (with parachute) over the island.
(3) Every two months, air drop a two-month supply of rice, beans, and multi-vitamins.
(4) Every year, air drop seeds.
(5) Every two years, air drop shovels, rakes, hoes, and buckets.
(6) After five or six years, stop air dropping seeds.
Of course there would have to be a light/fast boat that is always on patrol to ensure that no one gets off the island and to prevent rescues. Other than that, it is cheap and clean.
Do they at least get a single shot pistol and one round of ammunition?

I omitted an additional detail that someone suggested: in addition to airdropping food and seeds, airdrop knives, machetes, swords, axes, and clubs.
When tax payers continue to subsidize a breeding program for the lowest performing rung of the societal ladder, the result is feral youth.
Stop entitlements for children and single mothers, divert that money to more prisons and work camps.

I agree with the Liberal Terroristsā¢ļø in that we certainly do need criminal justice reform. We need to allow the victims and/or their families the ability to participate in delivering āeye for an eyeā Justice.
“Possession of an altered firearm” is one of the charges the perp is now facing. I wonder what the specifics are there? Maybe a filed down serial number?
How about mandatory sterilization on first felony conviction?
Why wait that long? Sterilize anyone dependent on gov’t welfare.
