A few years ago we introduced the PMAG D-60, and ever since then, we’ve been working on how to make it better… and we decided we couldn’t. So instead, we decided to make it bigger and louder. So, we’re introducing the Magpul PMAG D-50. Designed for those looking to carry 50 rounds of 7.62×51 NATO, because bigger is always better, no matter what anyone tells you.

The Magpul PMAG D-50 is a rugged, lightweight, and reliable 50-round polymer drum magazine designed for 7.62×51 NATO/.308 Winchester ammunition for SR25/M110 pattern rifles. It’s capable of using longer-than-SAAMI-spec match ammunition, up to 2.830” OAL, such as M118LR.

Engineered to the same exacting standards as the famous Magpul PMAG and PMAG D-60® drum magazines, the D-50 continues the PMAG tradition of high-capacity performance and dependability. In addition, the D-50 brings GEN M3 features, which means enhanced strength, durability, and reliability.
A ratcheting loading lever removes spring tension, making the D-50 easily loadable by hand. An anti-glare translucent window on the rear of the drum makes for quick positive visual indication of remaining ammunition.
Additionally, the D-50 can be disassembled quickly with a simple flat blade screwdriver, and a has a dot matrix pattern that allows for easy marking and identification. At approximately 1.5 lbs. empty, and 4.5 lbs. loaded, the Magpul D-50 is one of the lightest 50-round 7.62×51/.308 drums available and is priced well below current competition. Designed specifically for 7.62×51 NATO/.308 Winchester ammunition and use with other calibers such as .260 Remington or 6.5 Creedmoor is not recommended.
SOLD. I have a D60 and it’s seen far more use than my Beta. If I ever decide to go .308 in a carbine course, this will be very high on my list of shiny new accessories.
I want one but at $150, I have other things I need to get first. Like a 8-10TB platter drive, headphones, an air rifle.

Meh… While there is a minimum, every 1lb you’re carrying in weapons and ammo is another lb you’re not carrying in something else. Besides, momentum is a thing. Try swinging the rifle in the above picture like you would a stripped down M4.

@pwrsrg. Having hucked a 240 through many a house, it’s fine once you get used to it, and you can swing a big 308 onto target just fine with practice….and by not being a wussy boy!

Carry it every day all the time. Then tell me weight doesn’t matter. Never been military, but I do a lot of backpacking and hunting. My 8lb 18″ 6.5 Grendel AR-15 for deer hunting doesn’t bother me much after a long day of still hunting. My 9lb 20″ .223 AR-15 does. Just a pound difference, but I can feel it in my biceps and shoulders at the end of the day. My M-1 Garand…oh baby, I am sore as heck after a long day of carrying that around hunting deer. And it isn’t like I’ve got 100lbs of armor and gear on. I am usually carrying a 15-20lb pack on top of my rifle (maybe 10lbs of boots and clothing on a cold day too). If I am doing the stand, it might be 45lbs including my climber on my back or 35lbs with a blind on my back (usually not going to hump those all day, but an hour or two to where I am setting up or back to my car).
Now, I usually have them in my hands ready to go as I am still hunting, not in a patrol sling or slung on my back all day long. But weight matters. A lot.
I bench press 275 max and curl over 140 max and I am 6’1″, so not some itty bitty weakling.
I see the point of a drum. I kind of want one, but unless I was shooting it off a bench or using it from a static position, or some kind of short run and gun, no way it is mounted on my rifle.
50 ROUNDS of 308 + The empty 50 rnd magazine weight is 4.38 lbs (average 308 round estimated .087 oz). $149 + shipping, taxes. etc. Magpul offers window PMag in 25 round $19 (Brownells) so why the extra expense. I’d rather have 2-25 rounds for $38 and spend the extra $110 on other things, like 6 more 25 rnd mags = 150 rnd capacity. If your 50rmd mag malfunctions (it’s plastic) and they will eventually, what’s your backup? If your 25 rnd mag malfunctions, you have 5 more ready.
For my money, 6 mags is better than 1. Round Count is the same.

Only advantage is tacticool or sustained volume of fire before reloading. For light/GP machinegun a drum makes a lot of sense, especially as what is loaded on the rifle for initial contact. I don’t see a lot of purpose otherwise. For something like what the Marines are looking at where every rifle is a .223 DMR/light machinegun/Rifle then having 1 or 2 guys being the designated machinegunners with a 60 round drum for initial contact volume of fire and then 30/40 round mags to feed after that makes sense everyone only packing mags on their MOLLE and no drums.
Otherwise drums are awkward to handle, heavier for the same capacity as mags (compared a pair of 30 round PMAGs to a single D60, or this D50 to a pair of SR25 25rnd PMAGs) and are much harder and more awkward to mount to your gear.
I wish they would come out with a PMAG for the 6.5 Grendel…

I wonder why 6.5 CM is not recommended in it. Especially if it’s got a bit more internal clearance.

Interesting. Wonder if it has an adapter or can be modded to fit a SOCOM16. It’s a pig of a gun even with a SAGE stock so the 4.5 lbs would be about a 15% increase overall (from a steel 20-rounder). Asking for a friend.

I have a couple of D60’s. Ultra reliable. Never had a feeding problem.
Have one on test in my gun safe. Loaded and stored for more than one year to test Magpul’s claim of long term storage.
I like the .556 platform. With the right bullet, you can kill just about anything. Waiting for the M855A1 to become available. Gel tests look awesome and I don’t use that work often.
Now if they could make one for the FAL!!! (I’ll still get one!)

Maybe go with “moster-more-better standard capacity”. Quit the shit about High capacity as it feeds right back to those who feel that 10 rounds is too high of a capacity, or even one round. They’ve had a history of pissing the anti’s off, so why not continue the tradition that way? I’m sure their marketing team could have had a lot more fun. Anyhow, looking forward to feedback and testing from the dirt peeps who’ll ring ’em out.
