“An Arizona mother who tried to swap her 2-year-old daughter for a gun was sentenced to 30 months in prison on Wednesday,” reuters.com reports. “Authorities said they were called to Leathers’ residence after being alerted to the child-swap by a tip. While there, sheriff’s deputies found the girl with a family friend, who confirmed that the exchange had taken place. Deputies reported that Leathers said she believed the friend would do a better job raising her daughter and that she wanted a gun, but could not purchase one legally. She is a convicted felon.” Good God does this story leave a lot of questions unanswered. As my step-daughter asked immediately, was her life in danger? She meant the mother. I think. But the question on our AI’s collective mind has got to be: what gun? I’ll take two (hours sleep) and call them in the morning . . .

Oh, we all thought it. How many of us thought “Well, maybe for a really nice custom 1911”? Or an original Thompson?

Well, it does leave a lot of questions unanswered. But if I may, the mother, who perhaps believed she was unfit to be a mother, did attempt to get out of raising her kid–rather than let the kid languish. Not saying the method was right, but perhaps, in some twisted way, this was a move in the right direction. For the kid.
Although, to grow up with the knowledge that your mother tried to trade you in on a Hi-Point…
Sounds like the kid would have been better off anyway. Hopefully child protective services doesn’t mess up the rest of the kids life.
