The U.S. House of Representatives is controlled by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). She’s constantly being pushed further and further to the Left by progressive and anti-gun members of her caucus who are not interested in finding common ground on firearm safety proposals.

If the rush to place the blame on law-abiding gun owners for the tragedies in Buffalo, New York and Uvalde, Texas, didn’t give away their cynical intentions, the public House committee hearings this week on proposed gun control bills did. None of the proposals would have stopped the reprehensible acts and wouldn’t stop future incidents. It was all for show.

Know What You’re Selling

The U.S. House Committee on Rules held a markup hearing to debate the massive gun control package Speaker Pelosi is pushed through for a vote. The package includes proposals favored by gun control groups, including a so-called “assault weapons” ban. During the committee hearing, U.S. Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-Pa.) questioned U.S. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.), testifying in favor of the bill package, about some basics.

Rep. Reschenthal served in the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG) before Congress and the congressman was deferential in his questioning. “Chairman Nadler – I don’t want to put you on the spot but do you know what the ‘AR’ in ‘AR-15’ stands for?”

“It stands for ‘assault rifle,’” the New York Democrat responded. “That’s not it…Mr. Massie, do you know what it stands for?” Rep. Reschenthaler asked, turning to hearing witness U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.). “ArmaLite – the original manufacturer.”

“Yeah exactly and that’s unfortunate because it’s the first manufacturer of the platform in I think 1963 and it’s different than the M-16 platform. I know I was in the Navy, I shot M-16s – actually M-4s.”

“But it’s still an assault rifle,” Chairman Nadler interrupted. Shaking his head, Rep. Reschenthaler stated, “I would disagree with that.”

More Americans are familiar with the rifle in question than ever and understand more about them than Chairman Nadler. AR-15-style semiautomatic rifles, or modern sporting rifles (MSRs), are the most popular selling centerfire semiautomatic rifles in the country.

The most recent industry estimate shows over 20 million are in circulation. The rifle operates off the same one-trigger pull-one-round-fired technology that is utilized in shotguns and handguns for well over a century. More homicides are committed in America each year using knives, clubs and fists combined than rifles of any kind, let alone from MSRs, according to the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reports.

Standing Up for Rights

Not to be outdone, U.S. House Oversight Committee Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) held a gun control hearing of her own. She’s currently locked in a fierce incumbent-on-incumbent primary election battle with Rep. Nadler. The two Manhattanites are trying their hardest to out-gun-control one another.

Rep. Maloney’s committee hearing involved survivors of criminal violence, including those involved in the recent tragedies in Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas. Testimony was also provided by The D.C. Project’s Lucretia Hughes. Hughes is a Second Amendment advocate whose 19-year-old son was murdered by a criminal. She testified about the need for people – especially women – to be able to defend themselves and their families against criminals that won’t follow any of the laws being considered by Rep. Maloney’s committee.

Hughes told the committee there are laws already on the books that need to be enforced and that, “education is the key to safety, not ineffective legislation.”

“My son’s death resulted from a criminal with an evil heart and a justice system failing to hold him accountable for laws he had already broken,” Hughes said. “The laws being discussed today are already implemented in cities across the country. We have decades of evidence proving they do not work.”

Rep. Maloney remained adamant that pushing more gun control on law-abiding Americans. Measures include a so-called “assault weapons” ban, magazine capacity restrictions, enacting an age-based gun ban, expanding “red flag” laws while not addressing concerns about protecting Constitutional Due Process rights for the accused and implementing universal background checks.

President Joe Biden delivered a national address from The White House last week that was largely seen as unhelpful. Meanwhile in the U.S. Senate, senators are taking a deliberate, measured approach to find common ground on proposals that can garner bipartisan support while also addressing concerns that could prevent future tragedies.

  1. “Meanwhile in the U.S. Senate, senators are taking a deliberate, measured approach to find common ground on proposals that can garner bipartisan support while also addressing concerns that could prevent future tragedies.”

I don’t like the positive spin on that paragraph, this is trying to put a good face on it, but…
Finding common ground with the Democrats means Republicans giving the Dems a political win by embracing some “soft” gun control, which, just like the hard gun control (mag ban, AWB, registry) also won’t do anything positive or prevent anything successfully. The GOP will tick off gun owners, and the media and Dems can still point fingers at the Republicans as not passing their full House bill, so trying to be moderate won’t get the GOP anything. Meanwhile they won’t try to compromise by getting anything we would actually want like carry reciprocity, silencers off the registry, SBRs, etc.

Probably they would come back with “yay, fellow Republicans, we promoted state red flag laws, double banned bump stocks, promoted safes, and blocked 18-20 from semi auto rifles, and maybe threw in a couple billion into the school security/mental health blackhole, aren’t you proud of us? Supporting the Second, yeehaw!”

    • I hate to jump up front but since history confirms Gun Control is rooted in racism and genocide that fact makes running to Gun Control for an answer to a problem exactly like running to the kkk for advice on the safety of Black Americans or to nazi brown shirts for advice on the safety of Jews.

What pompous lily white congressional democRat Gun Control zealots are attempting to do equates to rounding up all Black Americans in Chicago and using nooses to solve crime. After all nooses, lynching, slave shacks, concentration camps, gas chambers, etc. have always and will continue to walk hand in hand with Gun Control.

    • And, what did gun owners, Republicans, Conservatives get in return for the “negotiations”with the devil??? Zip, Nada, zero
      That is acquiescence, not negotiations…..

  2. Heard audio of another congressman asking dopehead Nadler if he would then join him in sponsoring a bill to raise the age for the draft to 21, since those under 21 are (apparently) not able to make responsible decisions. Nadler said no, and something to the effect that even if they are not able to make proper decisions, if the nation needs them, it needs them, regardless.

Par for the course for the typical Democrap party.

    • The nation doesn’t need a bunch of senile fools in Washington, telling us what we may or may not do. In days gone by, people with a 6th grade education could understand the 2nd Amendment, but today’s college grads can’t read it.

  3. These idiots won’t even call their 82 year old grandma’s once a month but they’ll praise every word this 82 year old storyteller throws at them? Oh the irony.

You want restrictions Nancy? How about we restrict the age of people in government to no older than 60, because you old farts have lost touch with reality. It’s like taking home buying advice in this current market from someone that retired and bought a home 20 years ago. Imagine taking economical advice from these people that don’t even do their own shopping or pay for fuel, but when it comes to individual rights – if it saves one life? Amiright? Cuz laws work so great in all those anti gun states already…

    • “..we restrict the age of people in government to no older than 60..”

So we need fewer Chuck Grassley’s, and more Sandy Cortez’s?

Although I just checked in the House, Dem’s have 9 of the 10 oldest members.

      https://www.oldest.org/politics/members-us-house/

And in the Senate there are 3 Republicans, 2 RINO’s, 3 Dem’s, 1 who doesn’t know what he is, and 1 honeymoon in U.S.S.R. Communist, in the top ten.

      https://www.oldest.org/politics/members-of-us-senate/

Nonetheless, if you want to restrict a politician, we already have it… It’s called Voting.

      • Voting? Lol, tell me more about how that has done anything and how much the people passing laws give a fuck about our votes.

        • Actual, up here in Canada we send in petitions. That seems to be working out really well. By law they have to address them if enough signatures are gathered, which they are, dozens of times more than required in fact. Then, apparently, they can utterly ignore tf out of them. Maybe try this approach down there? Just trying to help, bro.

    • You would do well taking economic advice from people that have seen more history than the last Wall Street phoney “boom”.

      • Like the people that did nothing over the housing market crash? Or the people that are currently lying saying inflation is going to flatten?

Dude, we are at great depression levels. They clearly don’t know shit. Even if iflation flattens, wages are shit and people can’t afford to live. Our infrastructure is built around personal transport and that is failing too. This country needs a gut check and it damn sure ain’t from the people that put us here.

    • Imagine how bad the polling would be if we had an honest and fair media. According to them, the sky was falling everyday under Trump. Remember how easy life was? Now look at our country. The media is still covering for Democrats. Jimmy Kimmel had to hold the Puppet’s hand and carry him over the finish line just to get through a short, rehearsed, amicable interview.

      • If you look at Biden’s polling, despite his 35% to 40% approval rating, his/Dem’s core groups are still backing him, Suburban Women, Blacks, and “Advanced” Degrees.

Although it must be noted, as usual, these polls oversample Democrat voters. Some of the polls (with some digging) will tell you. Many will not, and you have to reverse engineer their numbers to verify.

        • “Suburban” Women who live in the largest Suburbs closest to the largest Metro Cities in the Country (NYC, although the NJ Suburbs are really souring on Biden, LA, Chicago, and DC). Rural, small-town, and non-metro Suburban Women, especially White Women and a good portion of Latinas have swung to the GOP.

Hispanics are becoming the new White Working Class, and Suburban and Rural Hispanics are rapidly trending to the GOP. The Democrats are on the verge of completely losing them by 2024.

Another Canary in the Coal Mine is Rural and Small Town Blacks. Looking at Virginia in 2021, Glenn Youngkin won them, and 18% of the Virginia Black Vote total when he became Governor. The polls on Biden are showing that.

        • @JPR There pusses are not as sour as you think

@Dude Just about everyone NOW has him below 40%. How low can the 81 million vote (most ever) go (lowest approval rating ever)?

          Right on time, new poll shows;

White College Women: 61/34 (22/27) That’s a 61% APPROVE! That’s an insane number! And will stay high unless it directly effects them.

      • And what did the media say about that interview? They said “Jimmy Kimmel didn’t pull his punches on Biden”. What’s fucking joke.

        • Everything is relative; I mean, imagine the kind of punch ‘jimmy’ could actually throw…

  4. I think Biden and Nancy have bumped thier shriveled uglies.

Nancy: “Joe ohh Joe…. oh yeah Joe …”

Biden: “YES … OH NANCE…who’s Joe?

    • I thought of the recent movie “Don’t Look Up”, which is the Democrat slogan in denial of the coming asteroid. Idiocracy was prophecy.

  5. There is no longer a Democratic Party. What these people stand for is not democratic at all.

They want a Democratic Republic here akin to those Countries that use names such as the People’s Democratic Republic of……. places where Democracy is an illusion as the only votes that count are among those who are in power. This makes them totalitarians. They want to own everything from production to consumption and only of those things they approve of. They are at the convergence where Facism and Communism meet politically.

Queen Marie Antoinette may never had said let them eat cake, but the people here who claim to believe in Democracy are saying that.

At the rate this Country is being destroyed by inflation, mostly peaceful protests, selective justice and the general loss of hope people are feeling, any new legislation may be moot and be the catalyst they are trying to create. They are not stupid, they are calculated.

  6. Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat Party are simply providing the things that the Libertarians Liberals and the Leftists want.

“Free” condoms. “Free” intravenous needles. “Free” STD treatment. “Free” medical marijuana. “Free” government run injection centers. So intravenous drug users can be given “free” drugs, monitored and supervised for “free” by government medical staff.

“Free” college tuition. And perhaps now “free” college debt forgiveness. You get all that for “free”.

    But no guns for you.

    • AKA, a “Free Shit” Sewage Bucket Fuck-Up Shit Country like Venezuela……….I watch Telemundo, and Chile is turning into Venezuela as we speak.

  7. I believe Nancy Pelosi to be a vile, vindictive and evil woman. Under her leadership our Congress has become a reflection of her style and personality. At the risk of being labeled a misogynist, the disfunction of our Congress has a definite feminine viscousness that is familiar to any that have witnessed high school dumbassery. Unfortunately, term limits for the likes of her and other past their expiration date congress critters is only a dream. Speaking of dreams, maybe the few sane people left in her district will vote her out.

    • “the risk of being labeled a misogynist”

You are not at all for noticing the obvious. Although it is a neat trick they play. If you mention reality, or believe your lying eyes, then you Sir are a misogynist, racist, homophobe, etc.

Furthermore, what you mention is not just limited to Congress. The Democrat party is Feminism, and Feminism is the Democrat Party. They are same side of the coin, and inseparable.

Try this, just as a thought experiment; The 19th Amendment is repealed tomorrow.

Would the Democrat party even exist by 2025?

    • “Your comment is awaiting moderation”

Nearly two hours later and still in moderation jail.

How about publishing the list of the contraband words, Dan?

      • OK as a PSA the bad word press naughty word is… h;om;ophobic.

        More explicitly the first 4 letters; H;o;m;o;

Must be difficult being an anthropologist using word press.

        (Also, still in Mod. jail)

    • “the risk of being labeled a misogynist”

Would the Democrat party even exist by 2025?

      • No, it would definitely cease to exist. Same up here in Canada with our ‘liberal’ party (even their names are flat out lies).

  8. Interesting that they allow open borders where criminals, drug and human traffickers, unvetted illegals, children without their parents, defunding of the police, no bail and criminals simply released or not charged for their crimes, including people like Alec Baldwin in Democrat controlled New Mexico and those Blue City insurrectionists that have never been charged for a crime. Then they allow 18 year olds to vote and join the military but they won’t allow them their 2nd Amendment Rights to own a firearm. The real solutions to the so-called gun problem for law abiding citizens is gun safety education and the right to bear arms without restrictions, and more attention paid to those with emotional and mental issues. They should also spend more time and focus on disarming the gangs in America and the immediate deportation of illegals who have a criminal record both in our jails and those running free in the Country. The reason violence has escalated is because their laws and more importantly their policies are a complete failure.

  9. “Meanwhile in the U.S. Senate, senators are taking a deliberate, measured approach to find common ground on proposals that can garner bipartisan support while also addressing concerns that could prevent future tragedies ways to convince people that CCP style policies are palatable until the knives really come out for the proles, at which point it will be too late.”

    /fixed.

  10. Was reading in our local newspaper that the Texas Senate and House as well as the Govenor instructed the Texas Education Agency in 2019 to implement school security measures to protect our school children. The TEA implemented security measures to be used in new school construction and neglected the schools already in use. Freaking idiots !

  11. Just going on what I’ve run across without doing any serious research, nothing I’ve seen proposed will stop the next deranged or angry young man or raving maniac from the next school, market, theater, concert, or church shooting. And, when it does happen it will be more of the same finger pointing and bitching, we are seeing now. With the same accusations of how the Republicans or the gun lobby or the NRA or the average gun owners are somehow to blame for the actions of some nutter.
And as now it will be the usual dancing in the blood demanding ever more restrictions and regulations that favor more control and power in the hands of unaccountable bureaucrats and more laws that will be either selectively enforced or unenforceable.
With the spineless Republicans dropping the ball and handing theirs over to the Progressives again. Just to avoid being called names or to be seen as doing something.
Gun control of any kind has never and will never prevent crimes, or even reduce them. If guns become hard to get, or too expensive, gasoline, home made explosives, vehicles, or any number of things can and will be used to kill, maim or harm.

  12. We need to stop and correct people using the term “prevent”! No law will prevent something from happening. What we can do is reduce the chances of an event happening again, but we cannot ‘prevent’ it.

  13. Looks like she has her car keys in her hand…maybe she and her husband are getting ready to go motoring?? HICCUPP! HICCUPP!!🍹🍹🥂

  14. I didn’t see anything in the previous comments so here goes: 1) the incidents being used for the blood dancing are NOT ‘tragedies’ – they are atrocities committed by deranged individuals. 2) ‘princess’ is NOT being pushed, she is staggering in the forefront of the antis attempts to capitalize from those atrocities.
BTW – does anyone have numbers of how many 18yoas did NOT commit any atrocities on either day? I’d venture to guess there were likely more than a ‘few’ (thousands).
