A few key features of this sub-6-pound rifle…

Straight Pull: significantly faster and smoother than a traditional, turn-bolt firearm, the linear motion of a straight pull also keeps you dead on target. Eliminating the sideways rotational force required to unlock and lock a turn bolt means no fighting your gun to keep it level. No unnecessary hand movement, no unnecessary gun movement. Just fast, smooth precision.

Purpose-Built Action: MBA is not a manually-operated AR-10. We have engineered an entirely new operating system that provides powerful mechanical advantage for primary extraction and in-battery locking mechanisms with an ideally-placed bolt handle for the fastest possible cycling. MBA combines proven, readily-available components and mechanisms with simple, elegant designs engineered to put them to use in the fastest, slickest Modern Bolt Action ever made.

AR Modularity: The Modern Bolt Action is the most modular bolt action ever made. MBA’s upper and lower receivers plus the bolt carrier and associated straight pull action mechanisms are proprietary. The rest of the key components – AR-10 handguards, AR-10 barrels (with no gas port, or block the gas port), AR-10 bolt heads, AR-10 magazines, AR-15 triggers, AR-15 grips, AR-15 magazine releases, etc. – are readily available. Right out of the gate, literally thousands of MBA configuration options are waiting.

Two-Piece Receiver System: bedding blocks and recoil lug integral to upper and lower ensures rock solid, flawless repeatability. Easily swappable upper assembly allows for rapid caliber changes with sighted-in optic.

Or, go the Build Kit route, which includes only the required, proprietary components including the receivers, to use the barrel, trigger, and other components of your choice. The AR standard makes it easy and options are nearly limitless. Building an MBA is even easier than building an AR!

  1. What happens if there is a catastrophic failure? Does the bolt just go through your neck to ensure to die quickly? At least a regular bolty locks everything in and would absorb blast. I’m not sure about advertising the whole speed aspect of this since you could just build an AR 10 for the same price and it’d be a lot faster. You’d probably still have some money to put toward the optic too.

    • It has 8 locking lugs and it’s locked in battery. Unlike some other straight pulls, especially early ones, there is no reasonable scenario where the bolt blows out the back. If the bolt is not fully locked into battery, the firing pin will not protrude from the face. The AR camming mechanism and locking lug system is pretty good here.

There are tons of guns that will fire a .308 round for cheaper. They’re different guns.

      • “…there is no reasonable scenario where the bolt blows out the back.

So just the unreasonable scenario’s that happen many times a year with weapons in general?

I like it, I’d want one, but not at that price.

  2. Dammit. I might actually have to do a comparison on this vs my current competition bolt gun. If this saves significant weight without drawbacks I’ll have to consider it.

Sooo… under chambering, does “other” cover .243 Win?

I may *hate* you almost as I hate my bi-yearly jury summons. Or maybe I’ll use your rifle to shoot the one I currently have sitting on my desk. Hopefully this one doesn’t put me on another cho-mo case.

  3. I plugged the gas port full of JB weld and presto the Mini14 is now a straight pull.
    I’m a firegunm genius ! !

  4. Curious at to why you decided to keep the bolt on the right hand side instead of the left side? You would then be able to actuate the bolt while maintaining firing hand on the grip.

  5. The article doesn’t mention the stock at all.
Is there a way to replace the ugly, flimsy-looking, uncomfortable-looking skeleton stock with a real stock? It doesn’t look like it’s compatible with any AR-15 or AR-10 stocks, as there is no buffer tube, but is it compatible with any other standard stocks, like perhaps Sig MCX stocks?
