During the 2020 riots that ravaged our country for most of the summer, Americans bought guns at a rate never before seen. Non-gun owners and often even anti-gunners decided it was time to shed their anti-gun views and get smart about self-defense.
Many decided it was time to get equipped and be ready to protect themselves and their families. It took scenes of violence, sometimes at their doorstep, to convince many that they could be in danger, despite the anti-gun narrative from mainstream media. No longer were the anti-gun talking points such as “nobody needs a gun to protect themselves” working to quell the fear that became a real part of their lives.
Many people living in Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis and Kenosha realized that the radical left-wing mobs burning down buildings or taking over the cities they lived in had become a real threat. The thought of being attacked for merely walking out onto the street caused a level of awareness they’d never experienced before.
Politics went out the window. This was the point for many when fear prompted a new kind of action.
Often times the anti-gun crowd has a stronger fear of guns than they do of being the victim in a violent attack. The media have a way of turning violent criminals into “victims of society” and law-abiding gun-owners into the bad guy.
The anti-gun crowd has always found a way to portray legal gun owners as reckless while portraying violent rioters as mostly peaceful protestors. But things have changed. Many people who previously believed the false narratives started to understand why guns are so important and how owning a gun could actually save their life. Maybe the gun-owners who they were taught to dislike knew something they didn’t.
According to the FBI, in 2019, an estimated 1,203,808 violent crimes occurred nationwide in America. With about 330 million people in America, that gives each of us about a 1 in 275 chance of being the victim of a violent attack. Most don’t like those odds. That’s why so many Americans have decided to protect themselves.
With over eight million new gun owners in 2020, more than 21 million guns sold and 46% of all defensive gun uses being by women, it’s obvious that the trend is moving toward increased gun ownership. But Democrats in Albany, New York don’t like that trend.
New York State Assemblywoman Amy Paulin has taken it upon herself to try to prevent New Yorkers from being able to purchase a firearm at a time when they may need it most. She’s decided that you should wait 10 days to purchase a gun in the Empire State. This would be after you’ve waited as much as six months to have your handgun purchase permit approved, depending on where you live.
Assemblywoman Paulin has drafted a bill to make sure that you and your family remain unarmed, defenseless and dependent on government for protection to the maximum extent possible. As in all things, Albany Legislators believe they know best when it comes to firearm ownership, so they are attempting to put a 10-day waiting period on the free exercise of your Second Amendment rights.
During a time when Governor Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio are releasing criminals back onto the streets of New York, Amy Paulin’s Assembly Bill A00449 would make sure that violent attackers remain safe from the people they prey on. Should this bill become law, it is sure to embolden criminals by limiting their risk of victims being armed.
The bill is described as:
“AN ACT to amend the penal law and the general business law, in relation to establishing a waiting period before a firearm, shotgun or rifle may be delivered to a person.” “Establishes a ten-day waiting period from contact of the National Instant Background Check System (NICS) before a firearm, shotgun or rifle may be delivered to a person.”
The radical left has created a fantasy world for themselves in which the bad guys are victims of society and honest, law-abiding citizens are the dangerous ones. If Democrats get their way with this dangerous bill, criminals will rule the streets (more than they already do) while good people beg for help from local police because they can’t defend themselves on their own.
Assemblywoman Paulin, Governor Cuomo and all the other anti-gun Democrats in New York should be ashamed for working to put New Yorkers at further risk while further empowering criminals. But those of us who are familiar with New York state politics know better than to believe they’re capable of shame.
Our Founding Fathers knew that people like this would one day maneuver their way into government. That’s why the Second Amendment was written.

Even in Washington state it depends on which LEO does the background check. King County Sheriff won’t return a background check for ten days. Other city police departments can return in one to three days. The law is a farce just ripe for abuse by authorities that want to harass the gun owning public.
Why bother with these articles when you know with absolute certainty that any bill that restricts the rights of New Yorkers to arm themselves will pass, even if they have to pass it in the middle of the night before anyone can read the bill.
California has a 10 day waiting period, has had a waiting period for perhaps a hundred years. But we do not have to wait six months or more to get a permit to buy one in the first place. the fact that New Yorkers already have to pass a BCG to get a permit to buy a gun shows the true intent of this bill has nothing to do with getting NICS clearance.
That’s the issue. Once you’ve dealt with the BS of permitting, no waiting. Unless this broad has her way.
Bet she lives in a guarded community and enjoys protection at taxpayer expense.

I think you have the misguided idea that people in NY who care about the constitution and the 2A are in the majority. You should check the numbers, because we aren’t. This is not about “lazy voting” (whatever that is). This is about being 4 to 1 in the minority, where NYC and the liberal culture of the state absolutely, totally dominate. This is a state where the governor can quite literally sign an order condemning thousands of elderly patients in nursing homes to death, the media will praise him for it, and a huge majority will continue to support him. The vast majority of New Yorkers are leftists who believe in the socialist agenda and hate this country. The only solution is to leave the state, which is what a lot of people are doing (myself included).
Well we may see Dr Zucker and the Governor in a race to see who can throw the other under the bus the fastest as we are seeing more details of just how many more nursing home related deaths there were than reportedly related to sending recovering covid patients into nursing homes instead of the field hospitals the army built. But allegations are allegations till someone actually gets called to account. Wild to see it come up in meetings today but as to site relevant topics I will need to read whatever this garbage is but does it actually include pistols or just rifles, shotgus, and “firearms” (looking at you shockwave). And for states that have had waiting periods does it apply if you buy rifles or shotguns in other states? I doubt this would do much to slow down the purchasing of anything as I have not seen the shelves more than half full since the May riots and it is all different stuff every time I come in………………except for the .416 that is still there.

Ha ha, that was funny. Oh wait, the author was being serious? I have a newsflash for the author: all those new firearm owners still oppose our right to keep and bear arms. Nothing has changed: those new firearm owners still think they are better than the masses and only they are worthy of the privilege of owning a firearm. The rest of us, not so much.
If, when the author said, “… fear prompted a new kind of action,” the author meant, “all those new gun owners who oppose our right to keep and bear arms will continue to oppose our right to keep and bear arms,” then yes the author was correct.
If anything at all has changed, it is that those new firearm owners are even more opposed to the masses being able to keep and bear arms. And they can justify that stance since they are “better” than the masses. Once again we see the attitude of elitists, “Rules for thee and none for me.”
Most leftists including former anti-gun zealots 1) think they’re better than everyone else, 2) won’t get training unless forced to do so and 3) are likely of the opinion that simply disagreeing with them is an act of violence.
While that is probably the correct number that the FBI reported for 2019, it is significantly low — easily half of the actual number — for the simple reason that a LOT of violent crime victims never report their victimization to law enforcement.
Here are just a few of the reasons why people do not report their violent crime victimization to police:
1) Victim fears reprisal.
2) Victim has a warrant for his/her arrest for an unrelated matter.
3) Victim does not trust police.
4) Victim believes that their attacker will never be prosecuted so reporting it is a waste of time.
5) Victim is ashamed of their attack.
6) Victim does not have the strength to “relive” their attack with police and courts.
7) Victim wants to exact justice him/herself.
8) Victim fears that police could charge him/her with a crime in connection with their attack.
And I am sure there are many additional reasons why violent crime victims would not report their victimization.
With the previous in mind, I once asked an experienced police officer in a large city police department how much higher he believes the actual number of violent crimes are. Without hesitation he said at least twice as high if not three times higher than reported to law enforcement. Being conservative and going with his lower number (twice as high as the FBI number), that is about 2.5 million violent crimes that occur annually in the United States.
Assuming about 2.5 million violent crimes annually in the United States, that means roughly one out of every 135 people will be victims annually. Now here is where it gets really scary: those are your odds for just one year. If you apply those odds over a modest 40 year adult lifespan, your odds of being a violent crime victim increase to roughly 1 out of every 4 people.
Now, that previous number is averaged across all people in the entire United States and is very deceiving for the simple fact that some people will be far more likely than others to be violent crime victims. Why? Simple lifestyle choices such as your home and work locations, your transportation method, your leisure activities, your friends, etc. will all impact your exposure to violent criminals significantly.
Regardless, that number serves to remind us that all of us face far greater odds of being a violent crime victim than we probably realize.
NY is controlled by a tiny remote part of the state known as New York City , unfortunately they have most people, and votes .
There are people in West Virginia, that live closer to NYC then I do in Western NY .
I have a few coworkers from and lately remotely working from Buffalo. I keep hoping that we can revive that region as it is absolutely beautiful and has a lot of potential…………..but we cant seem to connect the whole excessive taxes creates anemic business/industrial development and diminishing returns on revenue. Not sure where you are in the region but has the Buffalo Billion initiative accomplished anything worth mentioning that you have noticed?
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.
Some people out there still need a lesson in historical context when it comes to the 2nd Amendment.
In District of Columbia v. Heller (2008), the U.S. Supreme Court stated that the adjective ‘well-regulated’ implies nothing more than the imposition of proper discipline and training. Or to put it another way, to be in proper functioning order. A common phrase of that era was having a “well-regulated constitution”, which meant nothing more than to have your digestive tract in proper functioning order. It had nothing to do with making laws to regulate arms.
As for the militia, the Founding Fathers were very clear on who comprised the militia.

Furthermore, the Supreme Court ruled that the 2nd Amendment is an individual right. It is not a right reserved for the modern “State Militias”.
Therefore, the 2nd Amendment, written today with more modern terminology, would read something like this…
“A well armed citizenry, being necessary for the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”
Furthermore, If you study the history, intent, and meaning of the 2nd Amendment, you will absolutely understand that citizens need whatever rifles the military possesses. Our founding fathers established the inherent right of self defense against those who would abuse us, including our own government, which btw was their biggest fear. They wanted the citizens to be able to take back their country from an abusive government, so when government tells you that you don’t need a certain rifle, that is when you should be worried. This is the purpose of the 2nd Amendment, and if you deny this, then you are ignorant when it comes to the 2nd Amendment. The 2nd Amendment was not written to guarantee anyone or everyone’s safety, but rather, a way to be able to defend oneself and to be able to fight back.
Just in the last 100 years since the Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution (over 200 years ago), and affirmed our right to self defense, over 100 million citizens have been murdered by their own governments (such as Russia, China, Korea, etc.) when those citizens could not defend themselves, proving the Founding Fathers right, time after time!

“Well-regulated” still has the exact same meaning now as it did 200 years ago.
The only place where it’s acceptable to pretend otherwise is in politics, where “regulation” has become a synonym for “restriction” and nearly always ends in dysfunction — the very opposite of well-regulated. Try 15 months in Albany county for my pistol permit.
NY is so anti 2A this law passing would barely infringe. I’m in upstate NY. I filed for my license 4 months ago and received a letter the other day saying I may need to wait a significant period of time before the next step, which is to explain to a judge why I need a pistol. It will likely be a 6 to 9 month process in total once completed. In counties worse than mine I hear from people that they waited a year and even in local counties that are seen as reasonable, the process takes 4 months. Once you’ve been granted the privilege to purchase, adding a handgun to the license is reportedly weeks; each purchase must be approved. Ten more days, assuming it doesn’t coincide with the several weeks to have it added to the license, isn’t a big deal. That’s not to say I’m okay with this. I’m praying SCOTUS takes the NYSRPA v Corlett case against NY gun laws. It will be a landmark ruling one way or the other if taken.
I have a great laugh about how liberals are the problem.
The riots were not the protesters’ doing. Infiltrated by anarchists who went their own way when the marchers moved on, these criminals sought to sully the reputations of groups and people demanding equality and an end to institutional and social racism.
None of those involved in BLM marched breached the Capitol in the disgusting deadly treasonous insurrection.
I have always been a pro 2A liberal who recognizes that no right is absolute and that is entirely appropriate to have Necessary and Proper gun control legislation. BTW the “necessary and proper clause” is in the body of the Constitution,

I waited 10 days in my state. Federal background check & all that and not once did I worry about not being armed.
It comes with where I live where I don’t need to worry about radical right wing fascist militia.
I guess I’ll have less to worry about when I get my 2nd pistol.
The legislators who will vote for this foolishness don’t worry about physical security, they already have it in the form of armed security provided by the taxpayers.
