“Where’s NYPD? Oh my God! Close the door! Close the door!”

That’s the reality a bunch of New Yorkers faced after a terrible shooting at a subway station in Brooklyn. And this, just a couple of days after I predicted that random bag checks that violate the Fourth Amendment wouldn’t work. Instead of getting more safety for giving up their constitutional rights, they got this: (From CBS New York)

A man was shot multiple times on the platform of a Brooklyn subway station on Thursday afternoon. It happened just before 5 p.m. on the northbound platform of the A/C line at the Hoyt-Schermerhorn station. The victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Police say another man was taken into custody, and charges are pending. A gun was also recovered.

Police said a 32-year-old man got on the train at Nostrand Avenue, when he was approached by a 36-year-old man acting aggressively. The two men began arguing and then fighting. Police said the 36-year-old first pulled out a knife, and then a gun. That’s when the other man grabbed the gun and shot the 36-year-old multiple times.

Investigators are now searching for a woman who was traveling with the man in custody. They say the woman had a sharp object, or knife, and stabbed the 36-year-old man during the confrontation.

But, instead of acknowledging that criminals with weapons fighting each other in the subway are the problem, New York’s “finest” had this to say: “The real victims are the people in the video having a harrowing time with someone on the train with a gun. They just want to get on with their lives, so get rid of the guns!”

Having eviscerated the Second and Fourth Amendments, it’s not clear what else New York’s officials are going to do next. It’s very unlikely that they’ll wise up and let people defend themselves from crime, so they’ll likely look for more constitutional rights to violate in their quest for absolute safety.

But, we do know from experience that this doesn’t ever work, no matter how many human rights a government violates. In England, where gun rights are basically nonexistent, the crime continues to be a problem. Now, the government is going after kitchen knives. In Mexico, there’s a similar situation, but the government has been compromised by criminal organizations and during some years, Mexican cities have been the most dangerous on the planet.

I know gun control advocates would like to tell me that I’m picking the wrong countries to compare. After all, there are some nice European and Asian countries with strict gun control and very little crime. But, that reveals the ultimate weakness of their position. If gun control sometimes results in chaos and sometimes results in a good society, then gun control is obviously not the deciding factor. Other things, like a functioning society, economic prosperity and social norms against criminality are more likely candidates to look at.

Either way, it’s pretty clear that in American cities, we don’t have a Nordic situation going on where gun control can be instituted and people stay safe. New York’s continued crime even after other nonweapon rights have been violated shows us that we’re more likely to end up like Mexico if we let the gun grabbers have their way.

  1. Theyll blame it on the guy for protecting himself, wrestling the gun away from the perp and shooting him

    • I don’t feel sorry for them. Some parts of the country it seems, must give up their civil rights. In order for the rest of the nation to see and learn. From these stupid morons mistakes.

The people in New York are getting the police force they have been asking for. They didn’t support their local police force.

So now they are getting a Standing Army as their police force.

      btw
We will always have law enforcement. The only question is what form will it take???

      From 2014

This was called “the 1st amendment in action.” OK fine. Good for you.
Now you have uniformed soldiers for your local police force.

“We want dead cops.” video 2 min long.

    • “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” and apparently will get neither.
I guess Ben Franklin was right!

  2. Sounds like the aggressor got a dose of his own medicine. At this point if there was no previous connection between the two then the incident boils down to self defense…still nyc remains a democRat sewer that does not deserve landmarks like Trump Tower, etc.

    • Debbie, we can agree on some things, but never mind Trump Tower. The real abomination is the Statue of Liberty being in New York City’s harbor.

      • gadsten…What part of “etc.” don’t you understand? The real abomination? Self-servers who get by under biden and would just as soon leave him at the helm than to pull their head out of their behind and contribute to electing who is by far best for America…

        TRUMP 2024.

        • I thought you meant some of Trump’s other NYC real estate. Hey! Here’s an idea! Why don’t you call Trump financial advice? He might need it. I don’t. Oh, we agree on another thing. I’m voted for Trump last time. I’m voting for him this time. I’ve even contributed money to his campaign. Although, with my budget I probably should have spent it on beans and rice.

        • Almost forgot. You need to check your Webster’s. You keep misspelling Gadsden. The first time could have been a typo, but it keeps happening.

        • gadsten, gadsden whatever…Tourists want to see landmarks they’ve heard about and Trump Tower is one of many landmarks to see like the Statue of Liberty, Carnegie Hall, Broadway-etc. It is nice you voted for Trump, donate, perhaps you can campaign too? FWIW…I suppose you could use your new knife to eat beans and rice.

        • Debbie, that isn’t how you influence people or help the cause. It sounds like you’re always venting about something, mostly personal beefs with faceless names on a semi-obscure website. We’re on the same team here.

And yes, I did visit Trump Tower during my first visit to NYC in the 90s. I even bought some boxers from a store in there.

        • I’ve seen everything we’ve talked about. Although I only walked past the Tower. No, I wouldn’t use the knife to eat the beans and rice. I have a spoon., but I can use the knife to open the cam. Besides, I’m about to enjoy a rare ribeye for dinner. The new Behring kukri is a bit large for that, but I had Jim build me a 4″ drop point st the same time. I think I can carve a steak with that. Thanks for the suggestion.

      • How dare you! Read your history. Up until the late ‘60’s, this City was the very symbol of America. Unfortunately, since then (with a brief respite in the later ‘90’s and early 2000’s) it has chosen the wrong way forward

        • Neiowa blocks replies? Au contraire, the deep water port that NY is made it a trading capital of the world for some time. Try to learn some history

        • Neiowa blocks replies? Au contraire, the deep water port that NY is made it a trading capital of the world for some time. Try to learn some history. There’s something really special about people who comment here and don’t want to hear replies

      • “The real abomination is the Statue of Liberty being in New York City’s harbor”

Yes, I can see where some would be offended by the words on Lady Liberty:

“Give me your tired, your poor
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore
Send these the homeless tempest-tost to me
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!“

        • minor, go back and read the comment a little slower this time. The statue is not the abomination. It’s that it’s in NYC harbor, where liberty can be difficult to find. Or, maybe you intentionally misconstrued my meaning.

        • But those words do not mean the destruction of national sovereignty and the lowering of living standards to below third-world shantytowns.

You might have a guilt trip over your perceived first-world privilege. I consider myself lucky to be in a place where rule of law takes precedent over rule by despot.

        • Gaddy, I don’t really see any aspect of the Statue of Liberty as an ‘abomination’, neither its location or credo.

Sadly, it seems there are many today who would repudiate the core American principal expressed in the poem, placed on lady liberty in 1903.

  3. They just need to give up a few more rights.

Do they still let people jump the turnstiles in the name of equity?

  4. “If gun control sometimes results in chaos and sometimes results in a good society, then gun control is obviously not the deciding factor. Other things…like…social norms…are more likely candidates to look at.”

You’re on the right track. Now explain to me how social norms matter when you have a constant influx of “technically not supposed to be here newcomers” who were brought up with entirely different social norms, as well as a ruling and sycophantic class looking to ditch the existing social norms. Ask Sweden. They may not be forthcoming. They’re known for hiding inconvenient data about rape and crime in general.

    • “technically not supposed to be here newcomers”

Wow, y’all discard the teachings of your chosen gods rather carelessly.

      Exodus 23:9
      (9) You shall not oppress a stranger, for you know the feelings of the stranger, having yourselves been strangers in the land of Egypt.

      Matthew 25:

35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

        • Leftists have to twist themselves into pretzels because none of their positions are logical. I’m sure Miner has a houseful of illegals, homeless American citizens, and felons that he’s personally financially supporting because the God that he doesn’t believe in, yet still despises, has apparently commanded him to do so. 🤪

        • More like an evangelical atheist.

dacian is an evangelical fundamentalist extreme l3ftist. Despite his proselytizing, no one has converted to his cause.

        • “a militant atheist“

Militant? So when have I used military force to express my disbelief in the god claim?

“Leftists have to twist themselves into pretzels”

I’m not twisting anything, I quoted verbatim Jehovah’s commandments from the king James version of the holy Bible.

The contradiction is in the behavior of those who claim to be following the commandments of Jehovah.

“the God that he doesn’t believe in, yet still despises”

I don’t despise imaginary concepts, that would be irrational.

        • “I don’t despise imaginary concepts, that would be irrational.”

You could’ve fooled me. Now it’s even more weird the way you go on your famous God is awful because [___] rants.

          “I’m not twisting anything, I quoted verbatim Jehovah’s commandments…”

Then you go on to call it imaginary. If it’s imaginary, then it’s irrelevant. Can’t you figure out how to defend your positions without bringing up the “imaginary?”

        • You also think we have to accept all immigrants because of a poem on the Statue of Liberty. So far, your argument for unlimited immigration, on a level that has never happened in the modern world, is that there’s this poem on a statue, and God supposedly commands it in the Bible. That isn’t even true, but you never make an effort to understand anything. It’s either that, or you’re incapable.

Again, how many are you housing and personally caring for? Do you only think it’s a good idea when you don’t have to personally pay for it or deal with it? Of course that’s what you think. Envy politics work on you, just like they do most Democrats. Someone other than you has to “pay their fair share.” It’s never you, is it? (How many college loans will you pay off for others?) They say that with a wink and a nod to their rich friends, and you guys fall for it every time.

The spread between the upper and middle/lower classes increased during Obama at record levels, just like it’s increasing during Biden. At least when it happened under Trump, the lower and middle classes were finally beginning to make a comeback. In other words, it will always happen, no matter what the politicians say or do. The best you can do is make sure everyone has opportunity while trying not to increase inflation, which doesn’t really harm the upper class. Oops. That’s the opposite of what the Puppet Admin has done from day one.

        • Yep and happy to see it exposed more or less exactly as I described earlier last week. On to the next sideshow to not draw attention to collapsing budgets and useless replacement population newcomers.

    • I certainly do not. While the majority here may be enabling this. There are those of us natives who despair at what has happened to our City

      • Oops looks like mobile posting missed again (comment below). Would have to agree with you and a growing number of NY residents (citizens in this case) are starting to realize it. Hope it’s enough or that UN building may as well expand and take over city operations.

      • Neiowa blocks replies? Au contraire, the deep water port that NY is made it a trading capital of the world for some time. Try to learn some history. There’s something really special about people who comment here and don’t want to hear replies

  5. Can’t agree with you two but can’t really fault the feeling. Just remember the refugees from such an event would not likely be sent to the northeast.

  6. I was born in this City. I remember when cops actually rode the trains (including my oldest brother, who started as a Transit cop). We’ve actually had National Guard poking around in women’s bags in Grand Central virtually since 9/11. Now we have State Troopers there too. They’re invariably talking to each other or looking at their phones, like idle teenagers.

    All posturing and no bite.

  7. O, so I’ve obviously got my back up as a NYer. While I’m at it, you couldn’t manage to get a photo of the Hoyt-Schermerhorn station, instead off West 4th Street? I’m sure there are plenty to be had.

  8. More likely to wind up like Mexico. More like South America proper. After all it’s not called the Colonization of Norte America for nothing.
    Viva elBiden

    • “Argentina in the 90’s is increasingly familiar“

      More like Argentina today:

“The former president and GOP front-runner is now celebrating the newly elected leader of Argentina, Javier Milei, a wild-haired, chainsaw-wielding, self-described “anarcho-capitalist” dubbed “the madman” by his admirers.

“A very special congratulations to Javier Milei on a great race for president of Argentina,” Trump exulted in a video posted Tuesday on his social media site that echoed an earlier statement. “I am very proud of you. You will turn your country around and truly Make Argentina Great Again!”

      • So not only lacking discernment but also historical competency there Minor? Gonna have to find somewhere else with that false equivalence I know too many people from that region.

      • If you did that the joo’s would become gun runners again. Like they were in 1944.

They would be compelled. Forced into supporting the 2A. Because now in the Jewish state of israel. The reality of the world by an aerial invasion, has come to them. Using Para gliders carrying machine guns and grenades.

That is a very effective low cost military use of a civilian flying machine.

And I believe a very long time ago. The palestinians used hang gliders. To conduct a small unit invasion. To attack Isreal settlements.

Maybe some day. All the liberal jews will finally start to think outside the box.

  9. If law-abiding people didn’t have guns, criminals would not need to shoot them; gun violence would all but disappear. Guns have a heavy influence on thinking processes, making normal people criminals; it is settled science. Criminals arm themselves with guns because non-criminals have guns.

    • Criminals ‘arm’ themselves with what ever they can use to exert control and power over their victims, even if its just hands/feet. They have always done this, even before there were guns. If its a gun or not does not matter, its the criminal person their self that chooses to do it and does it not what they use to do it. For example…

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhxW3nLAfgM

  10. “Either way, it’s pretty clear that in American cities, we don’t have a Nordic situation going on where gun control can be instituted and people stay safe.”

Hmmm… the ‘Nordic’ aren’t safe either. They just don’t report their crimes in stats like we or other countries do and some crimes they stopped reporting completely. For example, Norway is touted as being one of the safest countries in the world because in stats it has seen a decrease of around 90,000 cases during the past decade – but what they don’t tell you is that decrease was because they simply stopped reporting some of the crimes in stats.

  11. The Illinois primary is today.

There is a old superstition that the veil between the living and dead is only the thinnest on Halloween night. But apparently that’s not really true because its a pretty common thing for dead people to vote in the Illinois primary and general elections.
