Slidefire bump stock

Following on our earlier report, the bump fire ban trend is creeping its way down the east coast . . . New Jersey Moves to Outlaw ‘Bump Stocks’ for All Residents

A state Senate bill, S-3477, which would ban accessories including bump stocks and “trigger cranks,” was approved Monday by the budget committee. An identical bill in the Assembly was voted out of committee at the end of November; the final legislation will go to a full Senate vote in the coming weeks. It is unknown if Gov. Chris Christie will sign it, as he has vetoed gun-control bills in the past.

Under current New Jersey law, it is illegal to possess a machine gun or an assault firearm. Gun owners are also prohibited from owning components designed to convert a gun into an assault weapon (including bump stocks). The new legislation would make it illegal to possess a bump stock or trigger crank at all, regardless of whether an individual owns a gun. Under the new legislation, the penalty for possessing a bump stock or trigger crank would be the same as if someone possessed an assault firearm or machine gun.

But wait! There’s more!

The bill would also make it a crime to manufacture, transport, ship, sell, or dispose of a bump stock or trigger crank in the state. Those who already own a bump stock would be allowed to voluntarily surrender their accessories to a law enforcement agency within 90 days of the bill’s effective date. Licensed manufacturers and retailers would have 30 days to voluntarily surrender their bump stocks or trigger cranks.

Did you catch that? Owners would be “allowed” to “voluntarily” surrender their accessories. Without compensation. Fifth Amendment be damned.

  1. On a 10/22?
How does a bump stock work on a rifle that doesn’t bump?*

*no, really. Never played with one, so I’m curious…
    🤠

    • Demolition Ranch played with one on a 22 a few years ago, you just have to keep an exceptionally light grip on the stock. In the DR video they actually gripped so lightly that their hand was sliding forward during shooting, but it did cycle properly.

    • Bump fire works fine on a S&W 15-22 (I realize that’s not a Ruger 10/22, but it is still a blowback .22lr). Had NO issue the first time I tried it… It’s really not that hard…

A 22lr does have some recoil (you know, that whole equal and opposite reaction crap from Isaac Newton?). It does help to have a lighter trigger. For the 15-22, they also suggest a ‘recoil enhancer’ that looks like a muzzle break, but I never installed it.

  2. So EVERYTHING including CC ain’t legal in Joizey?!? Oh well…the rotund governor has bupkiss to lose by vetoing this. Unless he plans on turning Dim…

    • I’m sure that current and retired Lore Enforcement officers and members of the judiciary and legislative branches won’t be subject to the restrictions.

    • Didn’t work in the early 90’s when NJ’s assault weapons ban went into effect. Will not work now, NJ state courts loaded with antis.
This for something that’s already banned by statue in NJ. Just wasting time. Now for owning without even owning any gun you go to jail as a felon!

  3. What could a new jersey person do with bump stock? It has to go an actual firearm to be of any relevance.

oh…i know…they want to keep criminals from getting their hands on it. well this aught a work perfectly for that.

  4. Like anybody needed another reason to avoid Jersey like the plague? Shit yall know Snooki and the rest of those Jersey shore creatures roam freely across the country side there, that alone should be enough of a reason to stay the fuuuck outta Jersey.
