From the NSSF:

Who introduced you to hunting/the shooting sports, and at what age?

My grandparents taught me how to shoot in first or second grade. I would shoot at a bell, and they gave me nickels and dimes depending on my aim. They taught me about gun safety and made sure I understood how to handle firearms with respect.

What was your most recent shooting sports/hunting experience? With whom?

I recently went to Seven Springs Sporting Clays with my dad and my good friend, Pennsylvania State Representative Carl Metzgar. Shooting is a hobby that my dad and I share, so whenever we have time, we try to get out to the course together.

Describe your favorite shooting sports/hunting activity. Which firearm? Where? What’d you shoot?

My favorite activity is shooting sporting clays. I’m a member at Seven Springs, and I get there as much as I can. I also go to Carrick Gun Club in South Park and Vandergriff Sportsmen in Apollo.

When I have the time, I do enjoy hunting. I was stationed in Texas when I was the head of Navy legal for Texas and Oklahoma, and I had an opportunity to hunt wild pigs with some friends.

I prefer shooting over-under shotguns, and I have a Beretta now but want to someday buy a Krieghoff. My favorite gun is my grandfather’s Smith and Wesson .357 revolver, which he bought in the 1950s when he was in the Air Force. It’s amazingly accurate.

Which piece of pending legislation related to the firearm industry is particularly important to you and why?

I’m a strong supporter of concealed carry reciprocity (H.R. 38), which ensures our Second Amendment rights do not disappear when we cross state lines. Because of the confusing patchwork of reciprocity laws between states, Americans with concealed carry licenses or permits to conceal a handgun can unwittingly break the law by making a wrong turn. Law-abiding citizens should have the right to utilize concealed carry for self-defense and travel freely between states that recognize this important right.

What do you see as the challenges and opportunities for hunters and shooting sports enthusiasts during the current Congressional session?

Speaker Pelosi and her allies in Congress today are openly hostile to gun rights and fundamentally don’t believe Americans should have access to firearms. As a member of the House Judiciary Committee, I’ve been on the front lines fighting legislation like H.R. 8 that would do nothing to address the root causes of criminal violence in America, and would instead punish law-abiding citizens. Luckily, we have a president in the White House who is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and a Republican Senate that will push back on the House’s unconstitutional proposals.

I think one area where there are opportunities for hunters and shooters is in conservation. On both sides of the aisles, there is strong support for protecting our nation’s natural resources, which is something the shooting community has always championed. In fact, one of the first bills signed into law this Congress was a public lands bill that expanded sportsmen’s access to federal lands.

  1. My dad introduced me to firearms when I was in first grade. I still remember shooting his pump-action rifle chambered in .22 LR. Unfortunately, that was basically a one-time thing and I do not remember my dad ever taking me out to shoot again. Fortunately, I was a natural enthusiast and acquired a Crossman 760 BB/pellet rifle in fifth grade, and then graduated to a Marlin Model 60 semi-auto rifle in .22 LR and a cheap pump-action 12 gauge shotgun in high school. Then college, career, marriage, and children happened and left a HUGE hole in my firearm purchasing obligations. I am happy to report that I made up for lost time and now own a fine and respectable collection of firearms.

  2. In terms of legislation, my top three priorities are:
    1) National concealed carry reciprocity
    2) Suppressors off of NFA and simple cash-and-carry items
    3) Short barreled rifles and shotguns off of NFA and no different than any other firearm purchase.

      • Everything should be Constitutional purchase, acquisition, keeping, and bearing.

I am simply referring to what is within the realm of potentially passing Congress and securing the President’s signature.

    Really? lol

“Luckily, we have a president in the White House who is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment”

    Really? lol

    __ Yes, Really … LOL

July 20, 2020, Tulsa, Trump warned that Joe Biden and Democrats “want to take away your guns through the repeal of your Second Amendment. They want to take away your guns through the repeal of your Second Amendment, as sure as you’re sitting here. [Biden] even put the big gun grabber, Beto O’Rourke–who made a fool out of himself when he ran for president–they put him in charge of guns. Lots of luck on your Second Amendment [if you vote Biden in].”

    • Trump is not a gun guy.

He supports the second amendment because it’s part of the US Constitution. He wants THAT upheld. As long as Trump sees things that way, he is (in my eyes) a better leader. It is understood that there are those that truly want to undermine American law and will use the 2A to do it.

I do sometimes wish he were a gun guy though. That would make all these Trump themed 1911’s and AR’s actually mean something.

    • Lmao. You can not say that Trump is pro gun or pro Constitution. He is the same as a democrat. He just knows he would lose if he supported a full on assault weapons ban.

You guys are calling him pro 2A after the bumpstock ban, the atf redefined .50bmg uppers as guns so you need a background check. The Reformation now is a SBS under the GCA. He signed fix nics. I’m sure I am forgetting more.

I’m not telling you not to support him. I personally can’t because he is not anywhere near pro Constitution at all. How ever to call him pro 2A or someone who upholds the Constitution is a complete lie.

      • He’s not Pro-Constitution? There are about 200 reasons that he is, they all have black robes and sit on a bench.

His son is extremely pro gun and I bet that sways him a bit.

        • I wouldn’t consider Kavanaugh pro Constitution would you? Not seen enough with Gorsuch really.

A lot of judges he has appointed are anti gun rino’s. Not saying there are no good ones. How ever that does not make Trump in any form supportive of the Constitution. He actively does unconstitutional things.

He is executive orders dumb stuff all the time too.

Defense production act? Literally could be used to justify any socialist regime at this point. This wouldn’t bother me so much if people were just honest. You want a guy who will appoint rightish leaning judges because they are better than democrat ones. I mean some are not all.

It’s lying to say he is an upholder of the Constitution. You have to be a Constitutionalist to do that and he is the opposite of that.

          Just ignore it though.

__He is not a fiscal conservative and he never has been. In that way, to spend like a drunken sailor, he is the same, or worse, probably worse, than the average democrat. But on everything else he’s much better than the alternative[s].

__You can’t have everything just as you would like it. Just imagine what it would be like right now if Hillary was the POTUS.

I’m not telling you not to support him. I personally can’t because he is not anywhere near pro Constitution at all. How ever to call him pro 2A or someone who upholds the Constitution is a complete lie.

__It’s all relative. DJT is this or that, based on opinions. However, what ever it is just compare it to the alternative[s]. He does not win in November think in terms of an Obama third term. That’s what you prefer? Choose carefully. Things can change quickly and for the worst faster than you think.

    • Of course he is better than Joe Biden. That is not my issue. he is not in anyway a better direction though. It’s still federal expansion of power. If we elected a trump for the next 50 years we would still be losing rights, government control of the economy would expand and property rights ignored.

Not once did I say he had to do everything I wanted. To keep my vote all he had to do was not add to gun control. He could; have gone full against servailence state and I would back him. He could push for permanent deregulation not just through executive orders which in the long run is just a power the president shouldn’t have.

Actually pull troops out of illegal wars?

If even slight directionalism for any of those is too much to ask I don’t know what to tell you.

There is a massive list of things he could have done to have my support. At this point it’s just pretending the country is not still being destroyed.
