2A Armament showed off their wares at the Northwest Shooting Sports Expo, including a couple of products that further solidify the company as a leader in the lightweight AR-15 space. Seen above and immediately below: the XANTHOS-lite “Large Frame” receiver set.
It’s DPMS/SR-25 compatible for .308/7.62×51 AR builds. Weighing in at 16 oz for the upper and lower combined, it’s some eight to 12 ounces lighter than much of the competition. 2A’s BALIOS-lite, available as a set or separately, is their popular, lightweight AR-15 option.
2A’s Magazine Catch Assembly won’t save you as much weight (about a tenth of an ounce lighter than mil-spec), but, as we know, grams make ounces and ounces make pounds.
Two button options are available — grooved or pocketed. Total weight is 0.27 oz. Want?

Been happy with my Balios Lite. I haven’t missed the forward assist at all.
The forward assist has always seemed like a bad idea to me.
If a round won’t chamber there’s a reason that it won’t. Trying to shove the round in the to chamber seems like asking for trouble.
In all of the malfunctions I’ve had with the M16A2 and an M4, if it wouldn’t go into battery, it was not a problem that the forward assist would fix. Additionally the metal is was usually worn down from Joe finger fracking the forward assist when they were bored which meant it slipped over the cam surface anyway. My last few ARs I built do not have a forward assist. I used the Rainier Arms uppers which had that part deleted. So, I totally agree with you on the I don’t miss the forward assist.
I have a 2a muzzle device I really like and is light weight on my 6.8. Most of the light weight parts I get are Vseven. The Battle Arms Ti take down pins are also real nice. If you do have a FA Strike Industries has a real nice Aluminum one for $18. Their roll pins suck I seem to split them. But Ace is close. For ambi selectors I like the AXTS they use detent pins instead of screws which I really like.

I wish 2A wouldn’t dish out (scallop) the Picatinny rail lugs on their uppers and handguards. Seems like it would be a dirt trap, and you have to use their handguard for a matching look.
Otherwise beautiful! Ultra light is the future of ARs.
