All this nonsense about being able to preserve the country from some imaginary tyranny is just that, nonsense. The NRA and the Far Right have been shilling nonsense about the meaning of the 2nd Amendment for years in order go (sic) further their aims. The NRA wants to sell guns. The Right wants to play battle games in the woods. The deadly result is that more children die from bullets than from any other cause. And the United States is the only 1st world country to endure this distinction.

We know a certain portion of the population is no longer amenable to logic or facts. So the best alternative is to create laws that properly control what guns are legal and who can own them.

A recent test in Texas, where gun ownership is next to godliness had a white man stand on the side of the road with an AR 15. The cops drove by and waved. They then had a black man stand in the same place. He was quickly arrested, although he had broken no laws. So, the law is purely for the convenience of the White population, or more precisely, the White Nationalist population. I was at a downtown street fair in Austin a few years ago when a group 20 men armed with AR 15s strolled through the crowd. They weren’t there to protect anyone, they were just stroking their egos.

If these arguments about the sanctity of the 2nd Amendment were held to the test of strict originalism, then these so-called militias would be happy to hold a single shot flintlock, a bag of shot, and a powderhorn. That would be appropriate for the times in which the article was written. Maybe the law is not being properly interpreted.

    • Yeah, you’re right, but that’s where the 2nd Amendment comes in. It affirmed the God-given right of citizens to defend their freedom from over-bearing dictatorships. Actually it worked quite well and the English got sent back to Britain with their tails between their legs.

  2. This is the biggest piece of c**p I have heard. The original colonists used the most advanced weapons of their time. If they had had the M-16 available, you bet your “bippy” they would have been using that. So much for that argument. The Constitution guarantees the right of firearm ownership and tells the federal government to stay away from our freedom. Never forget that the reason for the Revolutionary War was for the freedom of the colonists to carry out their business without the over-arching dictatorship of the English court. The English regarded America as their property, basically, which is the same as enslavement. So, the American Revolution occurred to bring freedom from English servitude to this country.

      Abortion is by far the leading cause of death among children. Motor vehicle accidents is next. Firearm deaths are low on the list, unless you add in 18-19 year old adults, and then it’s because of gang-related crime. The gun controllers have been playing this shell game for decades.

      • that is true. I pulled the data from the CDC data base. 49% of the “Children” in that number were 18 or nineteen. the 41% were 14, 15, 16, or 17. so only 10% of the deaths were 13 years old or lower.

        Another fact. The death rate in this 0 to 19 year old bracket did increase by about 40% in 2020 and stayed at about the same level in 2021. What i found interesting, it the first 4 months of 2020 has about the same rates as in 2019 and 2018. But the rate shot up in May of 2020 and did not drop. For those who may not remember, May of 2020 included the Floyd riots, defunding the police, and Covid mandates.

        I know correlation does not prove causation, but I am willing to bet an honest study of the numbers might yield at least a few links.

      This has been an issue for some time now. Where are the alarm bells? Democrats were caught on camera literally laughing about it due to the demographic. One video I saw was at a political meeting in the Northeast. It was a heavyset white man who made the joke.

  7. I’m curious about that “test.” Did, for instance, the men behave in the same manner? Or did one have the rifle slung while the other pointed it at passers-by? Without knowing any of the details, one cannot draw any meaningful conclusions.

Other “children?” If the NRA is selling guns to the Right in the woods, how does that kill the children?

    Did the 20 people with guns marching through the city, accused of the crime of ego stroking, also kill children with their guns? Kill anyone at all?

    I am thinking people love throwing unrelated stats around or trying to manipulate data for an agenda without looking at cause. If the gun people in the woods or marching around aren’t killing anyone, then should any blame be placed at their feet, even if they are “weird” or you prefer other activities? Meanwhile, perhaps the ones actually killing the kids should be arrested and prosecuted, or at least identified. Chances are it isn’t the Right, but known criminals, gang members, fellow “kids.”

    Of course, the left doesn’t care about actual gun violence, which is criminal and gang violence. People are murdered daily in the cities, those lives don’t apparently matter much.

  17. Kids do not dies from cancer or other diseases at the same rate as adults so that skews the data toward accidental death.

    We need to define child as well. A 17, 18, or 19 year old is not a child.

          I imagine everyone on this list is an atheist of one sort or another, I’m sure most do not believe in the existence of Zeus. I would imagine most on this list do not accept the claim that Shiva exists, therefore they are an atheist, meaning they don’t believe the claim that god exists.

          I’m the same, I don’t believe Zeus exists, or Shiva for that matter. In fact, I take it one god further, I don’t have sufficient evidence to warrant belief in the claim of Jehovah as well.

          Unlike a religion, atheists don’t have a central dogma or doctrine, no priestly or pastoral hierarchy, no system of belief regarding any particular deity or deities.

          Atheists have nothing to prove, because we make no claims.

        • Sorry Miner49er, but atheism is a belief system and all belief systems that cannot be physically proven are religions. Hence, my belief that there is a God who created everything is a religion because I have to accept that on faith. An atheist’s belief that there is no God and everything exists because of accidental occurrences is definitely something that can’t be proven and has to be accepted by faith. It takes a hell of a lot more faith to believe in evolution than it does to believe in a Creator because of what we now know about DNA and the complexity of an ordinary living cell.
