OMG! A Rifle Raffle! An AR-15 Rifle Raffle! OMG!

AR-15 (courtesy wsbtv.com)

“It’s a controversial raffle involving a controversial rifle,” wsbtv.com reports. “The Georgia Gun Owners Group is giving you the chance to win two AR-15 rifles at upcoming gun shows.” Wait. What? What’s controversial about a rifle raffle in Georgia? In Jersey? Sure. Several dozen SWAT teams would be on red alert; the media would be doing its level best to redefine the word apoplectic. But the Peach State? Bottom line: there is no controversy. Except the one that wsbtv.com manufactured, tapping into the local gun control industrial complex. Now why would they do that? I reckon it’s because the aforementioned group emailed the station’s Executive Director . . .

The gun advocacy group called Georgia Gun Owners is raffling off two of them at upcoming gun shows. In an email sent to Channel 2 Action News, Executive Director Patrick Parsons said, “We want more AR-15’s in the hands of Georgia gun owners who want nothing more than to protect their life, liberty and property from the actions of criminals and thugs.”

According to tvnewscheck.com, WSBTV’s News Director Mike Dreaden “honed his skills as an award-winning news manager while working in New York City and Miami prior to joining WSB in 1998.” I’m guessing Mike’s your basic left-leaning, anti-gun media type.

Cox Communications owns WSBTV. According to USA Today, the privately held media conglomerate has “restrictions on certain types of weapons ads.” The “no gun ads allowed” company isn’t likely to be drawing execs from the ranks of The People of the Gun.

So the “AR-15’s for all” email was your basic case of red rag meeting bull. Anyway, here come the usual suspects . . .

“Too much violence already out here, and it gets into the wrong hands and no telling what would happen,” said Atlanta resident Beverly Marks.

That would be some random person carefully chosen to camouflage the fact that the news story has no basis in popular opinion. And check out how the report doesn’t take the word of the Georgia Gun Owners Association that it will run the rifle raffle winner through an FBI NICS check but does accept the gun control advocates’ entirely debunked (i.e., false) claim that 40 percent of gun sales aren’t NICS checked.

Dealers we spoke with said the winners will likely have to fill out an application and get a criminal background check before a rifle is handed over. Organizers said they will do a background check at a gun store. But some worry that if the rifle did not come from a federally licensed dealer, that may not be the case.

“Forty percent of all firearms sales transactions, which are legal under federal law, are conducted without background checks,” said Alice Johnson with Georgians for Gun Safety.

Johnson said high-capacity weapons like the AR-15 are especially troubling.

“We’re talking about high capacity, difficult-to-control firearms that can kill people, masses of people in a very short period of time,” Johnson said.

We’ve said it before. I’ll say it again: no place is safe from the anti-gun agitprop propagated by the liberal leaders of the mainstream media.

  1. In my experience handling and building ar15s and their military cousins they are exceedingly simple to control they point naturally and come to shoulder almost without thought so what makes them hard to control?? Is that .22 on steroids just too bad for him?

    • I dunno what model you’ve got, but my AR is dangerously uncontrollable. It won’t come home at curfew, it drinks and smokes, and I’m pretty sure it beats women too. Whenever I try to discipline it, it yells “you’re not my real dad!” and storms off to its room to listen to My Chemical Romance and tweet about what an a-hole I am.

    • Mine used to do that then i sent it off to boot camp now it has quit smoking drinking pillaging plundering and no longer rapes cattle or stampedes women oh and it stopped dating strippers and spending half its check on hookers and poor bets at the track.

    • Edit 1 ARs unless properly trained in obedience and rigorously disciplined can be hard to control and will show a preference for wearing all black, back sassing, listening to “gothic” metal, cutting themselves, and other high risk unsavory behaviors found to be unsatisfactory by their parents err owners

      • Thats why I prefer AKs, only problem is that they talk with a Russian accent (not a problem actually) and about how they want vodka.

    • Well, entries are free, they’re not selling tickets, but they are using it to stump for donations, so the more exposure, the better.

Maybe the news station knows they’re being used, and maybe they’re OK with it.

  2. Some high profile person needs to start calling this a-holes that spout the 40% b.s. (and the 90%) b.s. liars to their face and lay out the real stats. Joe Wilson was right back when he told Barry “you lie.”

    • Money talks, BS walks.

NOTHING in that news segment was true.

The “journalist” Sophia Choi is a liar and the network WSBTV.com is an enemy of America.

Boycott ALL ADVERTISERS before and after every segment she does and tell them why you are doing so we can get this traitor off the air.

If that doesn’t get their attention, boycott ALL ADVERTISERS OF THE ENTIRE NEWS SHOW.

  3. “We’re talking about high capacity, difficult-to-control firearms that can kill people, masses of people in a very short period of time,”

If they are so difficult to control how in the hell do you kill masses of people in a very short period of time?

It wouldn’t surprise me if the outfit sponsoring the raffle sent this report to the station that would not accept advertising for guns in order to get free advertising for their rifle raffle on the evening news.

  4. WSBtv is owned by Cox Communications, owned in large part by Anne Cox Chambers, a billionaire who is also a major…MAJOR…MEGA MAJOR contributor to the Democratic party. Unnerstan?

  5. “We’re talking about high capacity, difficult-to-control firearms…”

Dafuq? Difficult to control? For whom? Someone with no use of their hands?

    • I have mine cornered and locked in the safe. I think I hear it trying to get out, but my .300 Weatherby is kicking its ass and making it behave.

    • Hey that .22 on steroids is a bad round just the other day i saw a round mug an old catholic nun outside the church

  6. “We’re talking about high capacity, difficult-to-control firearms that can kill people, masses of people in a very short period of time,” Johnson said.

Clearly she’s never used an AR-15. They’re incredibly easy to control, and come in perhaps the most customizable platform for firearms ever created. And it’s the magazines, not the firearms themselves, that are capable of holding the ammunition. It’s honestly reminiscent of the U.S. Rep. from Colorado who, earlier this year, wasn’t aware that “magazine clips” could be reused.

My Chevy Cobalt has great gas mileage (37 mpg highway) and is thus a high capacity gas tank, meaning that I could drive long distances and could crash it into a crowd of people and kill “masses” with it in a really short period of time. BAN CHEVY COBALTS!!! OMG!!!!

    • Remind me again what happened to the state legislator in Colorado who said that magazines couldn’t be reused. Is she still employed?

      • Yes. Diana DeGette still employed. She’s the Chief Deputy Whip for the Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives. Funny thing is, the Brady Campaign has been financing her reelections since 2008. I wonder how that’s going to turn out in 2014. Fingers crossed.

She even wrote a book called “Sex, Science, and Stem Cells: Inside the Right Wing Assault on Reason.” I wonder what she thinks about the science behind the “40 percent of gun sales are done without a background check” claim that she and her fellow Demoncrats have been spouting for the past year.

  7. We’re talking about high capacity, difficult-to-control firearms that can kill people, masses of people in a very short period of time,” Johnson said.

So can a can of gas on a bus in China, or a bomb in a rental truck driven by a dumbass named Tim, or a Chevy Cobalt losing control in a crowd!

I had an idea. I thought about making a picture or even a video with my Marlin 795 and put it next to an AR that shoots .22LR. Then post it and ask people which one is more dangerous? I already know the answer but it is fun to call people out on their ignorance.

    • It would be better to do that with a 10/22 and a 10/22 with the Archangel body kit. That way it would literally be the same gun.

  8. Obviously by the “difficult to control” comment the author is trying to characterize the platform as being inherently unsafe. An Ingram MAC-10 is “difficult to control” even though it isn’t inherently unsafe… A semi-automatic AR-15 is not.

  9. Cox Communications. Atlanta. Same urban disease. Cities are a bit short on reasoned thinking, far and wide.

  10. My AR-15 was uncontrollable, he keeps bouncing checks and is under investigation for suspicious medicaid charges…

it’s amazing what guns will do all on their own…

  11. Here in Jersey the Heritage Guild raffled off an M&P 15-22 and there wasn’t a peep about it surprisingly.

  12. My AR disrespects it’s mother, wont maintain proper hygiene without hands on help, it stays out late and often runs with a bad crowd. I’ve tried tough love but all it does is lay around begging for attention. It’s completely out of control.

  13. One more example of why the people of the gun must be forever vigilant for even in the free states there is an element always working against sitting and waiting for their chance to take your guns away as fast as they can.

  14. “Saying that, I can’t find Mr. Parson’s bio on the web. So I don’t know if he’s your basic left-leaning, anti-gun media type.”

Patrick Parsons is the executive Director of Georgia Gun Owners, not of the TV station. And no, he is not anti-gun. So far as I can tell, he is a principled advocate of individual liberty and personal responsibility, on the gun freedom issue and every other issue. (I worked with him in late 2010.)

  15. The Cox family is Democrat Party royalty. The father was a governor and Presidential candidate. The remaining sister (who is old enough to have witnessed the enactment of the Second Amendment) is a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat libtard who founded Priorities USA Action, a PAC that funneled millions into two Obama campaigns and more money into every left of center wacko who ever ran for office.

Maybe the local staff doesn’t know who they work for, but I doubt it.

  16. “We’re talking about high capacity, difficult-to-control firearms that can kill people, masses of people in a very short period of time,”

Do they mean hard to control as in, it’s hard to control it while you operate it? Or hard to control as in, it is hard for gun control nuts to control who has or can buy one?

Most firearms can “kill people, masses of people in a very short period of time.” Depending on what you think of a “short amount of time,” I’d argue that ANY firearm can. I mean, a two-shot double tap can be reloaded and used to kill a mass of people pretty quickly if nobody around can stop the person shooting it.

Anyways, the whole news “report” was obviously stupid. I just wanted to point out a stupid thing about the stupid article that the average stupid “anti-gunner” just doesn’t seem to get (or ignores).

  17. Please enter me in the raffle, I would love to get a new AR15. I promise to take good care of it and never intentionally use it for any illegal reason. That is unless they outlaw them then the possession of it would be illegal and I would then hold the role as an outlaw.

  18. I would really like for people to read and understand the Constitution before they open their mouths with the flow of B that they have never had any type of understanding of how this country was founded,,,,WAKE UP AMERICA …….oh yea I hope I win the raffle rifle…..
