Got ammo? Even if you do, you probably need more. Unlike south Texas, gun food is still pretty scarce in most of the fifty-seven states. But never fear, Remington feels your pain. They’ve just announced a major expansion to their Lonoke, Arkansas plant . . .
Madison, NC – Remington Arms Company, LLC (“Remington”) announced today its plan to expand operations at the Remington Ammunition Plant in Lonoke, Arkansas. Work on the expansion, which will include the construction of a new building, is expected to begin second quarter of 2013. The $32 million expansion plan is projected to be in operation by the second quarter of 2014.
“We are proud to provide job growth within communities that have supported us for so many years, while meeting the increasing global demand for superior ammunition products,” said Jim Grahlmann, Lonoke Plant Manager. “This expansion reinforces our commitment to deliver the finest quality products for our customers.”

Good to see Remmy is ramping up, but . . . . Federal .22lr 36 grain copper plate hollow-point is my “go to” fodder. Wouldn’t hurt if I had a few more valu-pak boxes on hand.

this is great news, too bad it will be awhile before the builiding is expanded, new equipment is procured, as well as additional employees. Remmy ammo is fine by me sans their 22 thunder BS (worst 22 ammo that i am aware of) but i would buy some in a heart beat these days.
I’ll second that on the Thunderbolts. I wrote up a “warning” post for RF a while back about it for the noobs complete with pictures and descriptions of how less than 100 rounds of that crap and my rifle and pistol took over six hours of cleaning, half a bottle of solvent and 2 ruined bore brushes to come clean. I’ve never had a problem with lead fouling like that. Post must’ve gotten circular filed somewhere…guess I needed to step my game! Seriously though, that stuff is dangerously low quality.
I hate it, but it is the only thing that reliably feeds in my wifes 60+ year old tube fed remmy that was passed down from her grandfather.

Excellent. Now I can add Remington to my list with Armscor as my two preferred ammunition vendors … preferred because both companies are investing in ammunition production capacity which should not only ease the scarce supply but also reduce prices.

I’m a big fan of Remington handgun ammo, and have been known to feed it to my rifles from time to time as well. It’s good to see US companies ramping up production and jobs.
If I were to manufacture ammo, which would be awesome, I would include that I would not sell to people who resold my product at a jacked up price.
Isn’t that what retailers do? That’s kinda the point.
This factory expansion, which might — might — be completed in a year, proves that the end of the ammo shortage is nowhere in sight.
Even Remmy isn’t so stupid that it would add capacity in a market won’t need it over a year from now. And Remmy, especially Remmy, would never do anything that the G didn’t embrace. Remmy’s entire business plan focuses on government purchases. It’s a defense contractor, and it’s not going to bite the hand that feeds it.
I expect that all of this production will go to the government. Hey, Remmy: KMA.
I was thinking exactly what you were thinking. If Remington is adding capacity, they must know that the ammo buying spree is not going to end any time soon. Is this the new normal?

Ralph pretty well summed up why this is not actually the good news you might think it is. This isn’t bringing online an idled production line, within a matter of weeks. This is planning for demand to still be high a year from right now.
I would still like them to pull out of New York. Just saying… but in the meantime, I’ll support their employees in other states.

I’ll buy products from them that are made in free states. I’ll boycott those that aren’t.

I drove by this factory earlier this week. Was wondering if they did tours. I have a lot of respect for companies that bring jobs to rural areas even if it is probably only for the lower labor costs. (That is if you consider 30 miles from Little Rock to be ‘rural’)
There is NO ammo localy
My 9mm likes the Remington golden sabre 124 grain plus p hollowpoints. It’s reliable with anything but the most accurate with that and the nato pressure winchester 124 grain fmj. But nobody uses fmj for defense loads.
When I can find it I like the 130 grain fmj load for practice with my .38’s. It’s a mild, accurate load and seems to be a little easier to clean up after. Remy also has some decent self defense loads for the .38.
I just found 1,120 rounds of Romanian surplus 8MM Mauser. Snapped right up ! Of course, at double pre panic prices but better to have it than not.
I talked with CCI at NRA in Houston and was told they were setting up a new ammo line that week. Hopefully that will let some more mini-mags reach store shelves.

Other comment is correct. Also, Most ammo co Except it seems CCI have reduced quality of 22 ammo, less lube, poorer annealing, etc. I visited Rem in NY last summer, I have never seen a cleaner plant. On the other hand I expected to see US Grant walking the halls. I’m an engineer (Was) and I have never seen so much OLD manufacturing methods and machines. Saw 3-4 machines Post WWII. Saw some post war of 1812, maybe. They need to declare the plant a museum(or burn it) and start over. Never saw a plant that used hundreds of little carts full of parts everywhere. Like to show them the concept of an assembly line
