Retired Maryland State Police Captain Jack McCauley: Gun Hero of the Day

https://youtu.be/KiW5P0dBjeU

When it comes to supporting gun rights restoration, some People of the Gun are [rightly] suspicious of the police. Many police chiefs and police organizations publicly declare their support for gun control and their opposition against open carry, campus carry and constitutional carry. Many, but not most. According to a recent survey . . .

86.4 percent of more than 20,000 sheriffs and chiefs of police surveyed “support nationwide recognition of state issued concealed weapon permits.” Some 76 percent agree that “qualified, law-abiding armed citizens help law enforcement reduce violent criminal activity.”

For some reason, cops holding these opinions don’t get as much media attention as police chiefs and police organizations that declare their anti-gun rights animus. So it’s a joy to see retired Maryland State Police Captain Jack McCauley take to YouTube to tell it like it is.

His rant against a Free State universal background check bill speaks the truth about guns. That makes McCauley TTAG’s Gun Hero of the Day. We need more like him to speak out. Before they retire? If only . . .

  1. Well said.

Unfortunately I have a feeling that the bill will become law because that’s how blue states roll.

Progressives wouldn’t know “common sense” if a dog with that name bit them on the ass.

  2. It shouldn’t be surprising. Most in law enforcement happen to be fairly pro gun, especially these days, and most tend to be conservative. Anyone who doesn’t work in LE, would honestly be surprised how often many officers sound much like many of the commentators here. It’s just the liberal minority in the slave states and sanctuary cities get more air time and recognition from the media.

  3. Got pulled over going 88 in 65 in VA on I66 one exit from the NRA headquarters. Cop saw my decal and asked if I belonged. I showed him my ID card and he thanked me for supporting the NRA and said have a nice day.

Some cops are on our side.

    • GS650G,

Don’t know if you know how lucky you were. Anything over 80mph, regardless of legal speed limit, is Reckless Driving in VA. So is 20mph over the limit. That stop would have cost anyone else a court appearance and likely license suspension. If you had been going just 2mph faster you could face jail time.

  4. I recall after the 2012 meltdown they had that schmuck police chief from Baltimore testifying before congress to support DiFi’s latest communist stunt. Imagine, the commissioner from Baltimore saying anything about how to prevent crime.

  5. “We need more like him to speak out. Before they retire? If only . . .”

Cops don’t have free speech. Well okay, they do, but that just means they can’t be put in jail for speech. They CAN be fired for it, depending on a balancing test that isn’t easy to figure out beforehand. Obviously chiefs who are touting the platform the local politicians want are not going to be in trouble. But someone in a place like Maryland coming out as a pro-2nd cop might have cause to be worried.

    • Hannibal,

“But someone in a place like Maryland coming out as a pro-2nd cop might have cause to be worried [about losing their job].”

That demonstrates THE most important fact that we should be shouting from the rooftops: Progressives refuse to leave people alone to live their lives, have their own opinions, and speak their minds. This is quite literally an existential threat to the United States.

Second, law enforcement officers, who have a sacred duty to defend human dignity and the U.S. Constitution, have to recognize and come to terms with the fact that the Progressive platform is at odds with human dignity and the U.S. Constitution. Officers who decide that their paychecks are more important than upholding the sanctity and dignity of human life and the U.S. Constitution are an integral part of the problem.
