Officials with the Second Amendment Foundation and Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today declared full support for the efforts of grassroots gun rights activists, county sheriffs and county officials for courageously adopting “Second Amendment Sanctuary” resolutions in defense of citizens’ rights in Virginia, Illinois and other states.

SAF singled out the Virginia Citizens Defense League and Illinois State Rifle Association for efforts in their respective states. At last report, 86 Virginia counties and at least 67 Illinois counties are now sanctuaries.

“Faced with increasing threats of restrictive gun control laws and even outright bans,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb, “activists working with local officials including county sheriffs have drawn the proverbial line in the sand. They’ve set an example for grassroots groups in other states to prevent the kind of gun control hysteria that now permeates legislatures in Richmond and Springfield.

“We stand with these counties in their defense of the Constitution against anti-rights extremism disguised as ‘common sense,’” Gottlieb said. “We remind gun-hating zealots everywhere this is still the United States, not a police state, and constitutional rights are not subject to popularity contests.”

Mark Walters, nationally syndicated host of Armed American Radio and a member of the CCRKBA Board of Directors, observed, “Gov. Ralph Northam and General Assembly Democrats have decided to pay back billionaire Michael Bloomberg and his gun confiscation lobby, making their first order of business to be massive infringements on Second Amendment rights.”

He blasted Democrat Rep. Donald McEachin’s suggestion to use National Guard troops to enforce new gun control edicts, noting, “Virginians who are sick and tired of this constant harassment of their way of life. As Virginians rise up in the face of tyranny, we let them know that we are all Virginians at this critical juncture.”

The Second Amendment Foundation (www.saf.org) is the nation’s oldest and largest tax-exempt education, research, publishing and legal action group focusing on the Constitutional right and heritage to privately own and possess firearms.  Founded in 1974, The Foundation has grown to more than 650,000 members and supporters and conducts many programs designed to better inform the public about the consequences of gun control.

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (www.ccrkba.org) is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States.

  1. Intersting groups. Strike one part down — cough, NRA, cough — and two more rise sprout in its place.

      • Illinois and Virginia gun owners are complacent because they are… doing something about unconstitutional infringements?

The logic is not strong with this one…
