If you’re a regular reader, you’ve no doubt seen our posts (as well of those in the mainstream media) regarding the current controversies surrounding the National Rifle Association, their EVP and CEO, Wayne LaPierre, and Ackerman McQueen, the NRA’s marketing and PR firm.

If you need to catch up, start here.

In addition to the leaked documents and sensational reports by publications like the New Yorker, the Wall Street Journal and Michael Bloomberg’s anti-gun agitprop production machine The Trace, some NRA board members and others have sought to counter the flow of bad news (see yesterday’s open letter from a number of NRA officers and former presidents).

Like them or not, agree with them or not, the NRA is the 800-pound gun rights gorilla in this country. To the extent that they’re weakened, either by self-inflicted wounds or attacks by their legion of opponents, the cause of gun rights in the US will be set back.

That’s why we want to hear what you think about all of this, and not just what some of you have already written in the comments. If you have a cogent opinion about the state of the NRA and the situation it now finds itself in, please email it to us at [email protected] with NRA OPINION in the subject field.

We’ll print the most articulate, well-reasoned submissions we receive. If you’d like us to withhold your name, please let us know in your email. Also please indicate whether or not you’re an NRA member (that will have no impact on whether we print a submission or not).

We’re not looking for flames, tirades or rants here. Check the comments under our previous NRA-related posts for plenty of those.

Instead, we want to hear your thoughts on the NRA’s current situation and what you think can or should be done going forward, if anything. And we won’t take comments under this post. There lots of other articles here where you can do that and we’d rather you put your efforts into a potential post.

TTAG is blessed with a large, educated, thoughtful, creative readership and we would like to take full advantage of that here. Thanks for your support.
