Shield Advanced Mini Sight AMS

The Advanced Mini Sight from Shield Sights is an enclosed pistol sight with a great co-witnessing capability that works with standard height iron sights and still mounts to the popular Shield footprint.

The AMS has a small built-in rear peep sight and provides a very nice sight picture, far better than other co-witnesses setups.

Shield Advanced Mini Sight AMS

In the picture above you can see the front sight inside the rear integrated peep sight. Since this is at the base of the optic window, the red dot is unobstructed. The standard rear sight is still installed on the slide in this setup. The AMS is designed so well I would remove the factory rear sight completely.

  • Mounts to Shields famous footprint
  • Utilises Shields patented mechanism enabling for a Co-witness to standard iron sights, considerably reducing training times and costs
  • The mechanism uses no click adjustment, making it infinitely more accurate when zeroing.
  • Large crystal clear lens with no filters to disturb the image of the world through the sight.
  • Machined from airspace grade aluminium to extremely precise tolerances whilst maintaining an attractive modern looking optic.
  • Smallest and lightest in its class, weighing only 37g (battery inc).
  • Intelligent on/off function allowing the user to turn it back on at the previous setting.
  • 12 stage manual brightness adjustment, inc 3 NVG settings.
  • 3 stage auto brightness adjustment so it can always be on and always be ready.
  • Shields switchable interface LED allowing the user to choose from 1 of 4 reticule options.
  • 13,000 hours battery life, calculated using 1MOA LED on setting 6 using CR2050 Battery.
  • Side access battery compartment with option of a CR2025, CR2032 & CR2050 battery, offering the user the choice of better battery life or increased conceal-ability.
  • Nitrogen sealed housing, submersible to 30 feet for 30 minutes.
  • Industry first mounting interface for fitting after market accessories like a roll cage, torches, lasers, go pro, protective lens covers and many more.

  1. “Side access battery compartment with option of a CR2025, CR2032 & CR2050 battery, offering the user the choice of better battery life or increased conceal-ability.”

    Whut??? Battery selection increases concealabilit?

      • The physical difference between CR2025 and CR2032 is the CR2032 is 3.2mm thick while the CR2025 is 2.5mm thick. The CR2032 is 0.7mm thicker than the CR2025 but it has a higher capacity (mAh). A standard CR2032 will nominally supply 225mAh while the average CR2025 will only supply 160mAh. The thinner CR2025 doesn’t last as long and will need to be replaced sooner. But the physical difference is only 0.7mm which is nothing that would affect conceal’ability unless the optic needs a ‘thicker’ battery cap size for the CR2032 but even then the difference is nothing that would really affect conceal’ability.

But the CR2050 is thicker than the CR2025 and CR2032 – at 5mm thickness its 1.8mm thicker than the CR2032 and 2.5mm thicker than the CR2025. The CR2050 delivers 350mAh, so this is going to give the longest life of the three batteries.

2.5 mm = 0.0984252 inches (barely under 1/10th inch but rounded up 1/10th inch)

1.8 mm = 0.07086614 inches (less then 1/10 of an inch but rounded up 1/10th inch)

3.2 mm = 0.12598425 inches (barely over 1/10 of an inch)

0.7 mm = 0.02755906 inches (lot less than 1/10th inch)

The broad conceal’ability claim in the practical aspect in relation to battery size; 1/10th of an inch and under is not going to make a practical or even a really noticeable difference in conceal’ability. IF the sight needs a larger battery cap that protrudes more than the one in the pictures then maybe there might be a very small ‘bump’ noticeable in printing if someone looks really close and knows what they are looking at but its pretty unlikely its going to be noticed.

So its not really a choice between ‘better battery life or increased conceal-ability.” because the CR2050 delivers the better battery life and its also the largest (thickest) of the three which if a larger battery cap is needed means, in their context, less conceal’ability. If a larger battery cap is not needed for the CR2050, and is the same type seen in the pics, then conceal’ability is still not a factor.

This is a bit of smoke-n-mirrors ‘fairy dusting’ ‘marketing claim’ for rubes intended to introduce a ‘feature’ that isn’t really anything that changes ‘conceal’ability’. Its not something that should influence a purchase decision.

note: The term ‘fairy dusting’ originated in the ‘health’ and ‘beauty’ markets where a claim for a use benefit by the inclusion of an ingredient in the product is made but very little to none of the needed ingredient to get that benefit is included in the product. Its also applied for other market areas.

        • note: by “battery cap” I mean what ever external part of the mechanism used to hold the battery in place for the side access battery compartment.

“…noticeable in printing if someone looks really close and knows what they are looking at but its pretty unlikely its going to be noticed. “

In reality nothing will be noticed unless maybe possibly upon very close examination if you are wearing very tight clothes and printing so much the gun and sight are fully printing in detail.

  2. The TTAG writer’s are doing a very good job of reporting from the SHOT Show, as always. Thank you, guys! Unfortunately, there’s not much of real interest to report about.

  3. Not motion activated?

    from their web site:

but,,, “3 stage auto brightness adjustment so it can always be on and always be ready.”

so if you want it to be ready when you need it you need to leave it turned on all the time.

“13,000 hours battery life, calculated using 1MOA LED on setting 6 using CR2050 Battery.”

    It doesn’t have a “1MOA LED”

“The mechanism uses no click adjustment, making it infinitely more accurate when zeroing.”

Translated – standard Chinese style ‘guess as you turn’ adjustment mechanism type that appears in most of the cheap stuff. You can not get less than 2 MOA “accuracy” for a 2 MOA dot because its a 2MOA dot (8MOA on one setting), there really isn’t “infinitely more accurate” because its only going to be as “accurate” as the dot size at most which at 100 yards is ~2 inches for a 2MOA dot and 8 inches of a 8MOA dot.

  4. Crimson Trace trace Red dot on my self defense pistol.
I have my own personal stalker in the form of my husband.
Asleep in my recliner and see a large man standing in my door way in dark landing leading to my bedroom. I put the dot center mass and said “declare your self” He said I’m your husband I was just checking on you!
Told him check on me in the mornings in daylight!
I’m a very grumpy wife if you wake me up
    Ok a tad bit paranoid!
But did have a Boke try to rape me years ago, but bit his lower lip until it bled, he asked me why I did that?
I asked him why he thought he have sex with me? He said his guy friend’s told him “America’s women are easy” Also told him, when a woman tells you no, believe them!

  5. Holosun just released an enclosed pistol optic that we all know will be more durable, with better battery life, at half the price.

    • Yeah, keep paying the CCP. What is wrong with you who use those? They are the enemy. Might as well send them money directly. Buy anything else. Boycott China as much as possible.

  6. “Industry first mounting interface for fitting after market accessories like a roll cage, torches, lasers, go pro, protective lens covers and many more.”

So they anticipate that someone may want to mount a Go Pro or a flashlight to the sight?

  7. Still not out yet, but Midway has it listed on their site saying it’s coming soon. They have the list price at $599.99, and their Midway price of $529.99
