SIG SAUER has come up with a way they think will get people who’ve never taken the leap into competition shooting to do just that. While anyone who’s ever shot for time or accuracy can tell you how much fun it is, most people don’t have the time or money to devote most of a day to entering something like a 3-Gun or IPSC competition.

SIG’s designed their new SHOOT SIG program to get around those objections.

The New Hampshire gun maker has designed the new SHOOT SIG league with the idea of “getting gun owners from the house to the range in a fun and approachable atmosphere.” SIG’s Director of firearms product management Phil Strader announced the new SHOOT SIG league just before the SHOT Show along with members of the Team SIG professional shooters Max Michel and Daniel Horner.

SIG aims to get people to sign up and participate by making their competitions easy to enter, fast to complete, and affordable. There are also a number of member-only benefits for those who sign up.

It will cost $50 for an annual membership and $45 to shoot in each competition. Join and up and SIG will send you a hat and some stickers. Members also get what we’re told will be a “significant discount” off the purchase of one SIG firearm per calendar year. In addition, they’ll give away a premium “aspirational” SIG firearm (think: SIG SPEAR, M17, SOCOM-Rattler) once a year to members along with another “major raffle item” each quarter.

You’ll also get a 15% discount at SIG’s online webstore after you shoot in one competition.

Maybe the best part is how easy it will be to compete. You’ll sign up online for an upcoming shoot and be given a shoot time. Unlike other competitions, you won’t have to show up in the morning, be squadded, then rotate through…while spending most of your time waiting rather than shooting.

SIG says once you get your shoot time, you can show up a few minutes early and then shoot your thee-stage competition in 45 minutes. That significantly cuts down on the time commitment to participate. Check out SIG’s site for the three-stage competition layout. If you really like to compete, you can sign up to shoot in multiple divisions (there are seven and you can shoot in all of them if you want) on the same day.

You don’t have to own a SIG firearm to compete. There will be non-SIG categories and prizes, too. In fact…you don’t even need to own a gun. SIG will have a selection of their guns there for you to use — for free — if you need one. Literally all you’ll need to shoot in a competition is a couple of boxes of ammo.

Again, the idea is to make it as easy as possible for virtually anyone to get into the shooting sports. The SHOOT SIG program launched on February 1. You can sign up and get more information here.

  1. Glock had matches a few years ago that were kinda fun and brought new shooters out. I hope SIG is similarly successful, but they will need a lot more matches – only three so far.

  2. you get to shoot in the competition IF.. you travel to their facility in New Hampshire, and any cost associated with that (travel, food, lodging etc…).

  3. “SIG SAUER has come up with a way they think will get people [to buy more of their stuff]…”

Sounds cool. I’m not knocking it, just keeping it real. Sig is good at marketing.

    • Kind of like Wilson Combat when it comes to marketing.
Bill Wilson is a marketing genius but the price of his products is insane.

Example: The Shok-Buff – tune your 1911 but don’t think a little piece of rubber is going to be the end all, be all for recoil or wear. A bunch of people put in heavy recoil springs and shok buff in to cover up a real problem.

The thing is while WC does not have competitions, you will see a lot WC guns or guns with WC parts on them especially at 1911 events. I do like their magazines and grips but the Shok Buff was a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist.

  4. “There will be non-SIG categories and prizes, too.”

Nope. The rules literally say the “Other” category for everything not-Sig is not eligible for prizes.

Me and some other USPSA/IDPA buddies were looking over the rules, and it’s GSSF for Sigs, but maybe slightly more interesting. Any range with an action shooting program should have the items necessary to host it. The biggest problems right now with it are:
    1. Gotta be a member to shoot at the matches. Membership is fifty bucks a year. Not the end of the world, but…
    2. There’s only three matches scheduled this year so far (two at Sig’s HQ), and there’s no obvious way to volunteer to run any.
    3. The discounts are extremely blah. Glock blue label, it is not. It would be nice to see escalating discounts based on participation.
    4. The official stages are somewhat blase (“set up at 10-15 yards” – what?).

I’d be in for shooting it and even running matches, but the logistics need some tightening up.

Also, I’m re-reading this article, and the author makes some claims about “other competitions” that have not been true since Practiscore got stood up years and years ago. Pretty much every match in every sport has online registration and squadding these days.

  5. your gun discount purchases are only good for what’s on the member sig purchase list. the list isn’t bad though.

    • The list is very uninspiring. I’ve paid less at retail for some of the guns on there than they have them listed for. If availability was guaranteed (more or less), perhaps that would make up for some of it.

  6. Does not solve the problem of way to few ranges in the USA. WHERE does all that ammo surcharge $ actually go?

  7. The 3 stage design is like a pretty bland steel challenge match, and $45 isn’t exactly chap for that. Also, if you don’t waste your entire day but speed through their 3 stages. how are you supposed to meet new people or learn from the pros? That’s what you do with all your time at 3gun or USPSA.

  8. Sig makes a fire firearm. I own one. An P-320M-17. I would seriously consider competing. I have shot in GLOCK shoots. It’s a blast.

        • You need someone to “stalk” you. You are what is commonly called a Snob!
What is your “problem” with the P320? Your “Outlaw” guy claims there are “problems”. I own a P-320 M-17 and have fired a couple of thousand rounds through it. The problem he cites with the grip is acerbated by improperly griping the pistol. He doesn’t like the “angle” of the grip. Maybe as his hand just doesn’t fit the gun. Not everyone’s hand is the same? YA THINK?
As to your second “source”. Opinions are like arse holes. Everyone has one. Even untrained neophotes like you?

      • It’s junk, end of story.
You are saying that LEOs are lying about them just going off?
        A cop that lies?
After your rant about a cop who lied then gave me a ticket for 6mph over?
I have more training then you will ever know Wally.
I’m not a 500lb NRA simp who has delusions of grandeur.
Sig made great guns before they came out with the P320 and then the P365.
“Lets beta test them on consumers.” and that’s you.
Actually that’s a big maybe, you seem like Hi-Point kind of guy.
        “I own a P-320 M-17 ” – sure you do Wally.
“You need someone to “stalk” you. That’s you to a T.”
Go blog and eat, you gotta be over 450lbs.

        • Rob S, Junk? prove it or lose it. What LEO’s are claiming that SIG P-320 is “junk”? I am sure the real liar here is you. You are what as known as a high faulting snob. The only thing you train in is B/S. And you are not very good at that. You are a BSA (Bull Shi* Artist). If there was ever an article which criticises anything, you can find it without much trouble. Just because some “expert” criticises something doesn’t make it “gospel”.
You don’t like GLOCK’s, yet most of Law Enforcement uses them.
I’m not a “500 lb NRA simp”. I know you are just a simp first degree. The only thing that is over 450 lbs is the air in your head.
          Have a good day.

      • ROB S I agree with MrBob, it is a piss poor grip but what is the source of that pic?
As to the NRA, we would never in a thousand years tell someone to grip any prisol that way. Not even a snob like you..

        • I’m pretty sure that’s the new NRA approved grip.
If I cared I would look it up. but I don’t.
That’s because I don’t care about the NRA.
They will be broke soon, people are getting wise to them.
80% of this forum doesn’t care about the NRA but
OTOH you are the 1 in 5 that does so you started stalking me.
You are out of your league Wally.

        • Rob S As I know you don’t l know you don’t know squat, your opinion is just more of your trash talk. I am sure you don’t care to look it up as it would prove what I said was true.
I doubt very seriously if the NRA cares a bit about your opinion. Seems people are joining the NRA in droves. I don’t give a rat’s behind if 99.999% of this forum cares about the NRA.
Speaking of leagues, your league is “Little League”. I know what that S stands for, SHI*
          Have a good day.
