It’s not clear exactly why homicides have spiked in the United States during the pandemic. The same thing hasn’t happened in the United Kingdom or elsewhere in Europe, and there are cities in the United States that have bucked the trend as well.

Some of the nationwide increase in killings over the past 18 months may have to do with the disruption of social services, which were already thinner here than across the Atlantic. Some may be due to a surge of gun purchases during the pandemic. Some may be traceable to the erosion of trust between the police and public following the murder of George Floyd in May 2020.

(One factor that can be ruled out, though, is the adoption of more lenient criminal justice policies, including the early release of some prisoners, in liberal parts of the country. Killings have risen in all parts of the country, just as much in Republican-led cities as in cities with Democratic mayors, and just as much in counties with and without progressive prosecutors.)

There’s good reason to think, though, that bringing the coronavirus under control should be part of any strategy to confront the rising homicide rate. And, in fact, as the worst days of the pandemic have receded in New York City, homicides have fallen as well.

  1. Sure, why not? Solar cycles supposedly don’t have anything to changes in earth’s climate (it was Neanderthal farts that melted the glaciers 12,000 years ago), so why would criminal recidivism have anything to do with crime?

    • Yep, and the cavemen with their irresponsible use of newly discovered fire are directly responsible for the evolutionary process which turned Unicorns into Rhinoceroses.

    • Oh, come on Governor–you know that facts are irrelevant.

Such irrelevant facts include these PRIMARY FACTORS which drive global climate and vary over thousands of years:
      — Angle/tilt of Earth’s axis relative to the sun.
      — Relative size/position of oceans and continents.
      — Continent elevations (e.g. mountains and plateaus).

Please note that everything in that list above is a simple and indisputable hard fact.

The only conceivable controversy is how many thousands of years it takes for those factors to change.

Speaking to that “controversy” are large volumes of compelling evidence which makes it very clear that Earth (and everything else) is tens-of-thousands of years old, not billions of years old. Of course academia and legacy media categorically dismiss all of that evidence because it undermines their collective agendas.

Anyhow, my point is that something like half of our nation’s population readily rejects facts in favor of emotion: that is what makes so many false allegations potent in the fight to disarm us.

      • Well everybody should just feel good then because we’re not creating a ‘climate catastrophe’ but saving the planet by restoring it’s atmospheric CO2. And even the exaggerated predictions of rising oceans and warmer temperatures are less dramatic than the earth went through 12,000 years ago, so the polar bears will be just fine. More CO2 means more life on earth but that won’t sell communism so they just make shit up.

        • Where do you think all the oil and coal came from? A half billion years ago the CO2 was 6000ppm. The dinosaurs breathed air that was 2500ppm CO2. By the industrial revolution it was 260ppm – around 100ppm during the last glacial period. 50ppm would cause a mass extinction of plants. Without man the earth would have been a dead planet in a few million years.

        • your existence is the evidence, mi amigo.
had a customer ask me if the 20w50 was stale or fresh. i said it’s been in the ground for millions, but i thought who cares, you have a honda.

        • “Can you post some of that evidence?”

Simple physics – As the atmosphere warms, it’s ability to hold moisture increases.

Also as the atmosphere warms, the northern and southern latitudes now become lush and green, absorbing even more moisture. That means millions of acres of land can then be cultivated for crops, feeding the hungry…

        • Geoff, also plants grow faster and produce more food with higher concentrations of CO2.

I’ve heard the argument that sure there will be more food but it won’t be as nutritious because plants will produce more sugars but not protein. However that’s wrong as well since warmer wetter weather will produce more thunderstorms and lightning makes nitrogen water soluble, so protein would also increase. And when it comes to agriculture we figured out thousands of years ago how to fertilize crops anyway.

        • My Friend,

I am providing a brief hint of the evidence involved. You will have to follow through with the details.

There is direct evidence that things are not billions of years old.
          — our oceans have far less salt than they should if they are billions of years old
          — our moon has a thin layer of dust, not several feet/yards of dust like it should if it is billions of years old

There is “negative” evidence as well. People who claim that the earth and the universe are billions of years old point to processes (on Earth) and distances (in space) that must take billions of years without any possibility that those processes/distances occurred in thousands of years. And yet we have found clear and direct evidence that those processes and distances can occur in minuscule time frames.
          — relatively large stalactites and stalagmites have formed in decades on recent human-altered surfaces in caves but science says that takes thousands if not millions of years.
          — we found solid rock formed around modern human tools that are roughly 200 years old but science says that it takes millions of years to form rocks.
          — we found soft tissue inside a dinosaur bone after removing mineralization with weak acid but science says that soft tissue cannot possibly last several hundred million years, the alleged age of that dinosaur bone.
          — cosmologists are telling us that the “fabric” of space is expanding in all directions, is expanding faster the farther away we get, and can expand faster than the speed of light. The net result is that objects are moving apart faster than the speed of light even though science tells us that objects cannot move apart faster than the speed of light. Since objects indeed can move apart faster than the speed of light and the universe is expanding ever faster the farther away we look, distant objects did NOT take as long to get there as their apparent distance suggests.

      • “Speaking to that “controversy” are large volumes of compelling evidence which makes it very clear that Earth (and everything else) is tens-of-thousands of years old, not billions of years old.“

Here you are folks, a typical Republican conservative operating under the delusion that the earth is just tens of thousands of years old.

And there are about 70 million of these individuals voting in the United States of America.

You know, I used to be puzzled about the nature of the earth and the cosmos, how old is the earth, is it flat or a globe?

But then I attended first grade, and in just a few short weeks Mrs. Young helped me understand the true nature of reality.

Would you be kind enough to share some of that “compelling evidence” you speak of?

        • i’m compelled to feel sorry for ms. young. she’s probably weaving baskets after having tried to explain things to you.
you might consider carbon dating, it might be your only shot.

        • I do know for a fact rocks form more quickly then humans think. I found sand turning to rock inside a piece of drift wood in a lake bed.
My guess is this world is around 4.5 billion years old.

        • “But then I attended first grade, and in just a few short weeks Mrs. Young helped me understand the true nature of reality.”

At which point you stopped bothering to understand anything to the contrary. The very model of a modern major general educated idiot, you are.

      • “my point is that something like half of our nation’s population readily rejects facts in favor of emotion“

All religions depend upon this fact, and playing on emotion is the only way the charlatans can gain any power or profit from the citizens.

        • “All religions depend upon this fact, and playing on emotion is the only way the charlatans can gain any power or profit from the citizens.”

Especially the new emerging religion of ‘White Supremacy’, which must be accepted as fact…

        • Keep wearing that N4 “mask” because Karen, Fauchi and Obiden say to do so. Take that 9th injection will make you safe. What defines insanity?

    • I’m still trying to figure how “native” Americans were cut off from Asia due to rising sea levels thousands of years ago. Gas guzzling SUVs weren’t around then were they?

      • May I suggest attending an institution of higher learning, studying geology or a related field, may give you the in-depth knowledge you need to accurately assess the realities of the various theories presented.

        • Way ahead of you buddy. I already took those classes in college. I think one was literally called geology. I had to take another one about soils. I’m perfectly capable of understanding the various studies and theories. You know that because you had absolutely nothing to refute me with or you would have. Maybe you can copy and paste someone else’s work. That’ll show me.

        • Atheism is not a religion, it does not rely on faith to determine any fact.

Atheism is merely the lack of belief in any deity, God or Goddess, spirit, etc.

No credible evidence has been brought forth that would lead me to be convinced of the existence of any God(s).

I must admit, it is quite entertaining to watch a bunch of grown men fall all over themselves regurgitating the delusions they’ve been fed for years in order to curry favor with their imaginary sky daddy.

Regarding the Abrahamic God delusion, the whole slavery thing is a dealbreaker for me. The specific instructions regarding how to acquire and keep slaves is reprehensible, immoral, evil shit that no honorable man should ever condone.

And the idea that a ‘God’ would send humans to go do his killing is weak shit as well. Who would willingly worship a wimpy ass God who required humans to do his killing, is Allah/Jehovah too weak to kill what is supposed to be his own creation?

          Lame coward.

        • the faithful only need explain senseless death like disease and starvation.
the atheist needs to explain everything else.

        • “regurgitating the delusions”

          “imaginary sky daddy”

          “wimpy ass God”

Notice the contemptuous language coming from the resident so-called inclusive, accepting and loving Left. Christians aren’t the only group Miner disagrees with, but he reserves this type of response when speaking to a political enemy. He doesn’t speak like that about Muslims. He’s a white knight for them.

        • Uncommon:

Your soft tissue claims completely misrepresent the findings, perhaps you’d be interested in the opinion of the actual researcher who discovered the polymers that remain after millions of years:

“Meanwhile, Schweitzer’s research has been hijacked by “young earth” creationists, who insist that dinosaur soft tissue couldn’t possibly survive millions of years. They claim her discoveries support their belief, based on their interpretation of Genesis, that the earth is only a few thousand years old. Of course, it’s not unusual for a paleontologist to differ with creationists. But when creationists misrepresent Schweitzer’s data, she takes it personally: she describes herself as “a complete and total Christian.” On a shelf in her office is a plaque bearing an Old Testament verse: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

    • Oh my, how depressing to learn that most on this list have absolutely no understanding of geological processes or modern scientific methods of determining age, much less the realities of cosmological processes.

Have you guys been watching too many Kent Hovind ‘Young earth creationism’ videos?

Yes, I copy and paste because that’s where the facts are.

It might help some of you to familiarize yourself with the modern radiometric dating methods, carbon-14 only works to determine the age of a biological sample.

And many of the fragments you cite as evidence have been misrepresented by the religionists you follow, the idea that ‘soft tissue’ remains in dinosaur bones billions of years old is especially hilarious. Perhaps you should research the actual study and author in a scientific source to determine reality of that claim, rather than listening to the sky daddy profiteers.

Here’s some info on the radiometric dating systems used to determine the age of non-organic samples, if any of you have information that refutes this please share with the group, thanks!

“Uranium–lead radiometric dating involves using uranium-235 or uranium-238 to date a substance’s absolute age. This scheme has been refined to the point that the error margin in dates of rocks can be as low as less than two million years in two-and-a-half billion years.[20][21] An error margin of 2–5% has been achieved on younger Mesozoic rocks.[22]

Uranium–lead dating is often performed on the mineral zircon (ZrSiO4), though it can be used on other materials, such as baddeleyite and monazite (see: monazite geochronology).[23] Zircon and baddeleyite incorporate uranium atoms into their crystalline structure as substitutes for zirconium, but strongly reject lead. Zircon has a very high closure temperature, is resistant to mechanical weathering and is very chemically inert. Zircon also forms multiple crystal layers during metamorphic events, which each may record an isotopic age of the event. In situ micro-beam analysis can be achieved via laser ICP-MS or SIMS techniques.[24]

One of its great advantages is that any sample provides two clocks, one based on uranium-235’s decay to lead-207 with a half-life of about 700 million years, and one based on uranium-238’s decay to lead-206 with a half-life of about 4.5 billion years, providing a built-in crosscheck that allows accurate determination of the age of the sample even if some of the lead has been lost. This can be seen in the concordia diagram, where the samples plot along an errorchron (straight line) which intersects the concordia curve at the age of the sample.

      Samarium–neodymium dating method Edit
      Main article: Samarium–neodymium dating
This involves the alpha decay of 147Sm to 143Nd with a half-life of 1.06 x 1011 years. Accuracy levels of within twenty million years in ages of two-and-a-half billion years are achievable.[25]

      Potassium–argon dating method Edit
      Main article: Potassium–argon dating
This involves electron capture or positron decay of potassium-40 to argon-40. Potassium-40 has a half-life of 1.3 billion years, so this method is applicable to the oldest rocks. Radioactive potassium-40 is common in micas, feldspars, and hornblendes, though the closure temperature is fairly low in these materials, about 350 °C (mica) to 500 °C (hornblende).

      Rubidium–strontium dating method Edit
      Main article: Rubidium–strontium dating
This is based on the beta decay of rubidium-87 to strontium-87, with a half-life of 50 billion years. This scheme is used to date old igneous and metamorphic rocks, and has also been used to date lunar samples. Closure temperatures are so high that they are not a concern. Rubidium-strontium dating is not as precise as the uranium-lead method, with errors of 30 to 50 million years for a 3-billion-year-old sample. Application of in situ analysis (Laser-Ablation ICP-MS) within single mineral grains in faults have shown that the Rb-Sr method can be used to decipher episodes of fault movement.[26]

      Uranium–thorium dating method Edit
      Main article: Uranium–thorium dating
A relatively short-range dating technique is based on the decay of uranium-234 into thorium-230, a substance with a half-life of about 80,000 years. It is accompanied by a sister process, in which uranium-235 decays into protactinium-231, which has a half-life of 32,760 years.

While uranium is water-soluble, thorium and protactinium are not, and so they are selectively precipitated into ocean-floor sediments, from which their ratios are measured. The scheme has a range of several hundred thousand years. A related method is ionium–thorium dating, which measures the ratio of ionium (thorium-230) to thorium-232 in ocean sediment.“

    • What do you mean? He cited four different Twitter accounts in just that short excerpt! Everyone knows that’s where all the knowledge is.

  2. Duh!

Threats to defund the police that discourages the police from doing their jobs and caused may to quit the force, lenient criminal justice policies, and tolerance of the violent crime by government officials like those “peaceful protests”, together, has caused the spike in violent crime.

I’ll bet that areas with strong support for law and order by government officials and strong law enforcement, even with a lenient DA, have much lower increases.

  3. David Alan Sklansky spends too much time on the crapper thinking up sneaky ways to mix gun sales in with crime. After all you must pass a background check to purchase a firearm. If what David Alan Sklansky says is true about Lenient Criminal Justice Policies Have Nothing to Do With the Jump in Violent Crime then by the same token background checks to purchase a firearm should also fall in line with Lenient Criminal Justice Policies and end.

  4. Stats are funny.
When two becomes four “rates have doubled!!!!! up 100%!!!!”.
When 345 becomes 400 “measurable but modest uptick” “5% increase”.

Brought to you by the Party of Science.

    • Not to be nitpicky, but . . . “345 becomes 400” is NOT a 5% increase. Be better. We can’t mock idjits like MinorIQ and dacian about their innumeracy if we commit the same crimes ourselves.

Depending on whether you are calculating “up” or “down”, an increase from 345 to 400 is either approximately 16% (high end) or 13.75%. Not even in “Progressive” math (or even Common Core) can an increase of 345 to 400 be considered a “5%” increase. Do better.

  5. Hit them with back with “Low vaccination rates have nothing to do with the increase in Covid cases.” My mask mandatory school has half the cases of the nearest mask optional school… but I guess that’s just pure chance, right? Simultaneous reductions in policing and lenient punitive or corrective measures and crime increased? No… really?

  6. When the man takes his boot off of the neck of the black man black men get bold and begin killing each other for fun. It is as predictable as the sunrise.

      • minor49IQ…It’s hard to tell the difference between officer pos bill’s bigotry and your pos bigotry. That’s right poop for brains: Your bigotry…

Don’t come around with your holier than thou finger pointing when you are a useful idiot member of the party that owns the legacy of slavery, segregation, Jim Crow, lynching, the KKK, Eugenics, Gun Control and other race based atrocities. Atrocities that spanned coast to coast and not just in the South like history rewrite democRats want clowns like you to believe.

Be responsible bozo…For once hold the democRat Party liable for its despicable history and make the democRat Party (your party) pay Monetary Reparations.

      • “Mr Trump has repeatedly said that the 10 most dangerous cities in the US are all run by Democrats.”

BBC: We’re going to fact check that!!

From Miner’s linked article: “The top 10 cities for overall violent crime, which includes major urban areas New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, are all run by Democrats.”

So you’re saying Trump was right. Thanks?

But there’s more: Let’s take a different perspective. Instead of the top 10, you know, like Trump said, let’s make it violent crime per 100,000 people. Hang on to your butts!

“Springfield in Missouri is run by an independent mayor. The rest, though, have Democratic administrations.”

Boom!! Found an independent! Take that right wingers!

      • Miner49er; Who are you calling a conservative? Certainly not me because I’m a staunch libertarian. I worked for years as a patrol officer in the Memphis 2nd Precinct and know exactly what I’m talking about.

Was I a racist when I married a black woman 30 years ago and had six children with her?

        • yes. yes, you were.
          nothing wrong with that.
“I was shanghaied by a high hat beaver moustache man
          And his pirate friend

And a soft lass with brown skin
Bore me seven babies with snappin’ black eyes
And beautiful ebony skin.” “orange claw hammer”, -don van vliet

        • “…and know exactly what I’m talking about.”

Proof right there of you being a ‘White Supremacist’…

        • RE: officer kill bill…”Officer Bill September 28, 2021 At 08:30

Boot, Knee it’s the same results bigoted bozo. Never mind your recent laundry list of lame qualifiers that somehow don’t pass the sniff test…Nonetheless you lost any and all credibility after you spewed the above white trash vomit.

“You worked patrol.” Today if your post could be tied to you, how long do you think it would take for you to be shown the door?

      • “..racism is often the refuge of the mentally deficient.”

        Hmmm, I think I just called myself a moron…….Again.

        I’m just not a very bight fella….

What I am, as noticed above, is a race hustler. One that would make Al Sharpton blush with my Race-Obsessiveness.

Notice how I deftly say “those people” when referring to the unvaccinated. It’s code to other leftist.

I am a very very black kettle.

        • Debbie W. You asked how long it would take for me to be shown the door at the PD if this post could be tied to me and the answer is until I felt like retiring. Fortunately for you and your warped perspective I got out of law enforcement and now work in the private sector making real money.

Today I just get to laugh and shake my head while watching a small minority of the population kill each other. You claim it’s racism or bigotry or some other ism but I base it on years of observation of reality. It doesn’t really have much to do with race but it has everything to do with class and a significant percentage of the lowest quintile economic class in America happens to be black Americans. They are the cause of the problem and they are the only ones that can fix the problem. If they want young men to stop dying in the streets than other young men who have the same color skin should quit killing their neighbors in the streets.

I got out of law enforcement because I got tired of seeing young men that I had known since they were little taking their last breaths and choking on their own blood while everyone around knows exactly what the problem is but they are afraid to label the problem for fear of being called a bigot or a racist. I also moved out of that City because I didn’t want my own children of color to become another statistic when they get gunned down by other people of color.

    • The black people I have dealt with haven’t behaved the way you describe. Consistently, they have been polite, peaceful and easy to get along with. Since blacks are human beings, just like whites, there is a minority of black trash just like there is a minority of white trash. Deal harshly with the trash and treat decent people, black and white, with respect.

      • indeed. and there’s more pink ones than dark ones cuz there’s more pinks.
but commercials seem to overrepresent the minority.

        • “but commercials seem to overrepresent the minority“

You have got to be kidding, right?
          Are you really that blind?

For 60 years television was exclusively the domain of the white man, with only token appearances by black/Asian/Hispanics.

Only in the past few years have you actually seen an accurate representation of minorities on TV.

A good example is the Andy Griffith show, imagine a small Carolina town with no Black people… bullshit racism and bigotry.

Of course, to the privileged, equality feels like oppression.

  7. Still trying to recover from the ferguson effect, and they claim that the floyd effect and the antifa effect and the chaz/chop effect aren’t doing things?
    okay

    • “Floyd effect”

That’s exactly what it was. It was predicted because we remember the Ferguson effect. When police pull back, people die. Especially black people. B L M terrorists, their corporate sponsors, and Democrats are 100% responsible for this. That’s why they’ll never admit it.

  8. IF you don’t lock up, punish swiftly the criminals, yes crime and violence will increase in spite of what Sklansky. Police have had their hands tied well before the “Defund the Police” movement started. George Floyd was a criminal, drug addict, passed counterfeit money, armed robber and these are crimes we know about. He is not a hero. The hero’s are the men and women out on the streets trying to do their jobs without the backing of their government officials, who risk their lives every day only to be hindered by political hacks. This country is headed to hell in a hand basket because of liberal politics and the lack of conservatives willing to stand up to stop this full blown attack on doing what is morally right.

    • “George Floyd was a criminal, drug addict, passed counterfeit money“

Could you actually provide the details of the counterfeiting charge and the evidence related thereto, I’m not seeming to find anything to substantiate your claim.

      Thanks!

      • Seriously, you need to work on your Troll Skills, you’re slipping.

Fact George Floyd was arrested and served time in prison for Aggravated Assault as part of a home invasion robbery. During the robbery he pointed a gun at a pregnant woman, who survived and later identified him.

Fact 5 convictions related to theft, possession, and trade of coke. Floyd was arrested five times in 20 years, his last cocaine arrest dates back in 2005.

George was also linked to two convictions in the 1990s for possession and theft of a controlled substance (cocaine). However, it is not clear whether or not Floyd served his time in prison for this felony.

George was accused of a firearm robbery in August 1998 for which he served 10 months at Harris County Jail.
In April 2002, Floyd was condemned to 30 days of prison for trespassing private property.

George Floyd was involved in two more cocaine offenses, in October 2002 and in 2004, for which he did eight-months and ten-months sentence in prison respectively.

Another cocaine possession conviction in Dec 2005, Floyd was arrested for having cocaine on him and served 10 months in state prison. After a few months, Floyd’s charge was upgraded, amending the cocaine amount he possessed to be about 4 grams. However, according to the records, the alleged charge was lifted because Floyd convinced the jury that he had less than 1 gram of cocaine.

Fact the grocery store employees called the police when they suspected George Floyd had passed them Counterfeit currency.

Fact George Floyd stayed at the scene and attempted to destroy the balance of counterfeit currency by ripping it up and hiding it under the seat, when the police arrived.

Fact George Floyd was a drug addict and statements by his girlfriend, details their struggles with Oxycodone and Meth addiction.

Fact George Floyd ingested a large quantity of Fentanyl which was enough to kill several people (at least) by swallowing a “Goof Ball” to hide the drugs from the police. George Floyd was indeed intoxicated with Fentanyl, Methamphetamine, and traces of cannabinoids and morphine at the time of his death according to the medical examiner’s report.

Fact George Floyd resisted arrest and all the efforts of the police to get him into the police car, 3 of of the 4 officers present where unable to get him to comply when all worked in concert.

Fact It is impossible to say anything, if you can’t breath, try it yourself. George Floyd stated before he was pinned to the ground that he couldn’t breath, while still resisting arrest.

Fact George Floyd’s actions that day lead 100% to the path that resulted in his death. Before he died George Floyd was a drug addict and a convicted criminal. Police were called to the scene of another of his crimes and acted accordingly. George Floyd attempted to conceal evidence and resisted arrest, all of which contributed to his death. George Floyd’s ingestion of large quantities of Drugs, coupled with his preexisting heart issues, likely were the main cause of his death.

Perhaps the Catholics will make George a Saint, but the rest of us see him for what he was, a Criminal and a Drug Addict. No one deserves to die, but the world is a better place without George Floyd in it.

  9. On a micro-level, the government causing millions to lose their jobs and businesses matter, Stress from bills, evictions and everyone locked up in the same home has an effect too. I’m sure suicides are up as many people are hopeless and also have lost threads of normalcy. The divorce rate is also through the roof. All of this is thanks to the useless tyrants in government who treated this Flu, like it was a plague, which it is not. For the future, imitating the policies of the Chinese Communist Party is a 100% way to do it wrong, in almost all things.

Second, releasing criminals from custody, eliminating cash bail, prosecuting and firing police and giving your political allies a permission slip (like democrats used to give the Klan) to riot and burn cities, for two years, has unsurprisingly given the criminal class the impression that they can do as they please, when they please. They know if they are arrested, they will be released almost immediately, maybe before the arresting officer’s shift has ended.

I would argue that the increase in the general public’s arming themselves is simply, the public realizing the truth, that the Police protect the interest and power of the state. Because all people do benefit from the rule of law, that has lead many to the false belief that the police are there to protect you.

Want to reduce crime, lock up criminals and vigorously enforce the law. Incarcerated people cannot harm society and while it is more expensive than using a rope, it is far cheaper to keep criminals locked away, than to let them commit crimes.

Writing all this does make me feel like “Doctor Obvious”, however as Voltaire noted, “Common Sense, is not so Common”.

  10. “Simpler and emotionally cathartic responses, like longer prison sentences for people convicted of violent crimes, have an obvious allure. But we have been down that road before. It leads nowhere good. Violence is a hard problem, and it cannot be ignored or simply wished away. But even the most pressing of crises can be made worse.”

So, they want to follow the California model of de-criminalizing narcotics.

Just don’t bother with convicting them in the first place, since incarcerating them doesn’t seem to be a deterrent. With that model, you get what you have in LA and San Fransisco, literally human shit covering the sidewalks.

Remember, as California goes, the rest of the nation will eventually follow. They want to literally allow human shit to cover the sidewalks where you live, since prosecuting them will be a cruel thing to do for people suffering from an addiction or a mental illness.

If anything will split this nation, that will be the reason…

  11. Why the increase in violent crime?
How about for starters defunding the police? Many cities run by Dementiacrats, even in Republican held states have at least forced police to be less active in patrols and less proactive in checking people out. Next is the stresses of the lockdowns etc. People under extra financial stresses due to either uncertain employment, or uncertain about their businesses will react to small stresses of everyday life, sometimes with violence. Never forget that some people will react to stress by turning to drugs or alcohol. Both of which make people do dumb things. Either because they were under the influence, or commit crimes to support their habits. With the upswing in drug sales, comes the upswing in drug dealers/gangs competing for that market. And, most of said gangs don’t buy out the competition, they kill them. How about no bail, fewer arrests and less of a chance of realistic prosecution? Many would be criminals see the opportunity to get away with their crimes and will make the attempt. Next is just opening the doors of the jails and allowing career criminals to walk with few if any consequences for their actions. Toss in the riots and unrest caused by the faux racist claims and you will have more crimes committed.
But, of course, it’s the fault of those racist angry white gun owners. Or those who seeing the results of government policies regarding crime, economics and businesses, decide they may have to have the means to protect themselves/families/homes/businesses. Since they begin to realize they can’t rely on police or government to be there when they need help.
Just couldn’t be the fault of failed government policies or programs, or self serving politicians.

  12. This article is based in the same dope-hazed fact-free world where U.S. border guards whip migrants from Haiti.

  13. I’m irritated that before I clicked on that link you did not say where it was from and if they allowed comments.
I clicked on it gave the Brennan center for justice another click.
I wish I had not done that.
It is a completely leftist legal site that is promoting policies like “violence interrupters”and is against locking up actual violent criminals.
And they do not allow comments.

  14. I would assume early release and no bail may have had something to do with it. However a person must remember for every criminal locked up theres a thousand who are not. Pandemic, economy, uncertain future, may have an influence.
Drugs and the crooks are just to damned lazy to get a job and theres more and more lazy people because the government makes it to easy to live without working.

  15. “Killings have risen in all parts of the country, just as much in Republican-led cities as in cities with Democratic mayors, and just as much in counties with and without progressive prosecutors.”

Herein is the big lie. Rates might have increased increased everywhere (which I dispute), but they didn’t rise uniformly. Big cities, like Chicago and NYC were up 33%+. The top 18 were up 43-96%, but some are statistical anomalies, like Portland going from 1 murder to 20. Increased gun sales aren’t the issue since it’s a minor increase in the total number of guns, and we have long known that there is a long time between production and use in crime on the order of a decade.

    • The author linked to a tweet from August of 2020 which is either lazy or outright lying by omission. It took me all of three minutes to check the yearly totals of 2018, 2019, and 2020 for Colorado Springs. The 2020 totals were almost in line with the 2018 totals. The percent increase from 2019 to 2020 was less than that listed for the YTD totals in the tweet.

The highest rate increase listed was for Lexington, Kentucky. B L M was extremely active in Kentucky last year, not just because of Floyd, but because of Breonna Taylor. Yet, once again, the author is lying by omission because he doesn’t even mention the B L M Democrat activists that terrorized Kentucky and much of the country last year. I hope everyone on the left isn’t like Miner and little d. They’re so desperate to feed their bias that they’re incapable of questioning anything from these propaganda articles.

“One factor that can be ruled out, though, is the adoption of more lenient criminal justice policies, including the early release of some prisoners…”

Notice he doesn’t follow that with proof that none of the murderers were repeat offenders that were let out early or given lenient sentences.
