Well this explains why they were offering sweet deals and rebates on the original M&P Shields a few months ago. A friend of mine bought three (one for himself and one for each of his sons) and paid $300 each.
Is buying a firearm as a gift – even for a family member – even legal anymore? (sadly, not joking)
If congress ever examined/audited our firearms laws today and eliminated the ones that were ineffective against criminals or in accomplishing the intended purposes, I wonder how many would be left on the books?
That would probably apply to every law in existence, since laws seem to simply be specifications for getting around them through “loopholes”, but I just wanted to stay on subject.
Buying a gun with the intention of giving it away is perfectly legal, at least in terms of federal law, as long as the recipient is not a prohibited person. I bought a Henry for my wife’s birthday a few years ago. Nothing wrong with that, but I had to complete the 4473.
Illinois law now requires the seller/giver to verify the buyer/receiver’s FOID card before completing the transfer. State Police web site has a way to do that.

A few months ago? Hell, Sportsman’s Outdoor Superstore started selling them this weekend for $288 shipped with 4 mags. No rebate necessary. (Methinks they saw 2.0 coming) I bought one and didn’t even want it. Only took me about 5 minutes to rationalize a use for it. Just got my rebate checks for the 9 and 45 that I got with the rebate. I was thinking about canceling my order for the new one, but sub 300 is a hell of a deal and I can always get my money back on that one. I’ll keep it til the 2.0 is readily available with a settled price.
$100 for night sights but only an extra $20 for laser?
S&W owns Crimson Trace now, so I suspect they get the advantage of economy of scale and at cost pricing (you are only paying for two company’s profit, not three). I suspect the marketing cost would also be taken out as it piggybacks on the Shield’s. I want to get an M&P22 but I’m waiting to see if such a similar bundle pops up.
Looks like they are now using the grip texturing from the Shield .45. I have that gun, aside from being an awesome gun, the texturing is definitely very aggressive and you can really get a good hold. Also sort of rips your hand up after a bit of shooting, but it’s all good.
I wish that was an integrated LED light instead of a laser…..
I have found older 9mm version to be to my surprise very easy to shoot. I was expecting stiff recoil and found it to be soft. ( although I heard a woman complain about hers) . I myself don’t think the extra grip texture was needed but I guess to some folks it would help. I am wanting to try the new trigger though. the older one I tried had a nice feel but was a bit long, and a lighter trigger pull would ease this up a bit.
I’ll say this much about the (version 1.0) Shield trigger – It’s better than a Glock. I think the Shield in 9mm beats the Glock 43 hands down. Better trigger, 1 or 2 more rounds mag. capacity, better ergonomics and $100 less expensive.
My wife hates the stiff slide spring- She carries a S&W Airweight snubbie since it doesn’t have a slide. Her 108lb weight (soaking wet) isn’t conducive to a stiff slide. I, however, love my 1.0 Shield- Best carry pistol I’ve ever had. Lightweight, slim profile, easy to shoot… If they improved the trigger, who cares? It’s perfect for bad breath/defense distances.
My Shield is a fantastic gun. I like to make my guns my own, so I swapped the sights for Trijicon HDs, dropped in an Apex trigger, stippled the grip and added the MagGuts springs to my magazines. Obviously it’s not stock, but I can’t imagine being happier with a gun in this size.
Yeah, it’s a Shield with a new trigger and grip. I’ve added the night sights, I’ve improved the grip for me. So, all I need is a new trigger, and I’ll save quite a few bucks, thank you very much.
Or, I’ll save even more and keep the trigger I’m used to.

I figured as much when they offered the $75 rebates and sweet deals, and decided whatever they were changing probably wasn’t worth passing up the bargain. I’d like to try the new trigger but I enjoy the Shield I bought.
If they do a performance center version with the laser, that would be worth it.
XANDERBACH, your wife is very well armed. which airweight does she have? as far as the Shield with the laser goes , I am not fond of lasers on guns and would just go with the night sites, the laser is there because S&W owns Crimson Trace.
If this features the same grip texture as the M&P2.0, it’s going to be something to take a look at. I had trouble keeping purchase on the original Shield and G43, leading to me purchasing a different subcompact single-stack 9.
It could be a bit of a double edged sword if they do put the new texture on (not sure how well I’ll appreciate it rubbing up against my side all day), but it would fix one of my major complaints about the platform.

Does anyone know this “New” incorporated laser, requires the shooter to manually turn the switch on/off or as you’re about to pull the trigger, it comes on?
Secondly, my experience with 3 laser manufactures systems, has been, when the laser is off and has battery, it still drains the battery, which makes it useless.
For example, I bought expensive green Viridian laser, which drains the battery in two weeks left turned off. And it is a pain to open/close with those 3 tiny screws.
Are these laser suffer the same way?

Bought my 1.0 from CDNN for $250, same as I did for a Remington RP9. Both have proven to be excellent purchases. Maybe this will drive the prices for 1.0 down and I can find one in .45.
