This game is good – don’t get me wrong – but it falls frustratingly short of the bulls-eye I’m looking for in a first-class, realistic range sim. Lemme tell you what I mean…
My quest for the perfect gun range game continues with the iPod Touch/iPhone game GunShot. I’m looking for a game that gives me the look and feel of a real gun range, re-sized for my iPod. Something that provides the same kind of fun I have shooting holes in pieces of paper. In that respect, GunShot misses the target. It’s an OK way to practice but it doesn’t really have the wow factor yet. It costs 99 cents – about average for an iPod game. And it has a lot of things that some of the other gun games don’t have.
I go to the range a lot where run a bunch of bullets through my Ruger 10/22. When I’m not at the range I spend a lot of time on my iPod, so naturally I want a target game for when I am away from the range. I want the game to be as realistic as possible. And I want one that is as much fun to play as it is to shoot my rifle for real. Shooting Range is NOT that game.
Small kids need to know that guns are not toys. That’s the message of the National Rifle Association video Learn Gun Safety with Eddie Eagle. It teaches kids who find a gun to leave it alone. Go tell an adult. Even if you think it might be a toy, just leave it be. Pro-gun and less-than-pro-gun parents will love Eddy; the gun safety lesson is about as vanilla as you can get when talking about deadly weapons. But I’m a 12-year-old. Does the NRA’s message fly with kids my age and older? Two words: Eddy’s grounded.
