Austin’s Brave New Books — “a bunch of curious people on a quest for the truth” — welcomes Texas’s freshly-minted open carriers. The store is thought to be the only book store in Austin that hasn’t put up 30.07 signs banning open carry. In fact, BNB’s working to attract well-read open carriers with a firearms-friendly discount. As their Facebook page proclaims . . .

Brave New Books recently held a well-attended symposium on open carry, featuring a panel of Second Amendment supporters discussing their efforts to restore Second Amendment protected rights to Texas residents. Clearly, the free market supports freedom.
The experience of the 44 other states with open carry: when open carry is legalized nothing much happens. Many stores with the “no guns allowed” signs start getting complaints from would-be customers offended that the store does not trust them. When those complaints outnumber the disarmists’ attaboys, the stores take down the signs.
Again, nothing much happens. Over time, the number of places with signs gradually dwindles, as managers and owners realize that putting up signage that offends half of potential customers is a losing proposition.
The last signs to come down are from places that do not depend on the market, such as non-profits, and from government agencies, who do not have to worry about offending customers or making a profit, to stay in business.
Texas is in the early first stages of this process. Brave New Books is showing common sense and a canny understanding of market forces. When I am in Austin, it looks like a good place to visit. If you want to support a Second Amendment friendly business, their store sells a wide range of gun gear.

I know the people behind this store and they would NEVER support anti gun ideology.
It’s not good or bad, it’s just a coincidence. There are probably hundreds of groups and businesses using “Brave New (blank)” as a name.

Yes, extra great that it’s right on the corner of UT and is a student heavy area.
Unfortunately parking is generally horrible around there, but I’ll make a trip by there soon none the less.

Also I read Brave New World when I was a freshmen in H.S. I still find that more accurate of the state of the U.S. than 1984.
