We may be a little late to this party, but I just stumbled across some video of a guy firing his homemade .700 WTF (as in “what the F#@& was that!?”) rifle. The cartridge was designed based on a .50 BMG case and using a .700 caliber bullet weighing 1,132 grains (.50 BMG is usually ~600 grains, BTW). It’s not a “destructive device” thanks to a “sporting” exemption, the same one that lets the .950 JDJ keep on this side of the NFA, but is slightly easier to reload for thanks to the use of readily available .50 BMG brass. Probably not something you can put on your holiday wish list just yet, but the videos look like a ton of fun.

  1. I prefer .800 lmfao. Its great for hunting chupacabres. Did I get the plural form of chupacabre right?

  2. I did the math on this. It’s less powerful than a .50 bmg but the whole building your own gun makes me very jealous.

  3. I just looked it up and the guy plans on loading it hotter in,the future. Up to 2400 fps I think it said

    • “Now for a semi bullpup version.”

Just forward the video on to Kel-Tec – they love making bullpup’s and other goofy stuff that I totally love.

  4. If J.D. Jones didn’t make it then it cannot be a “Whisper”. Same idea maybe, but this meant to more closely resemble a .700 Nitro and not even in the same league as the .950 JDJ. Please give JDJ the respect he deserves as one of the most influential cartridge designers of all time.
