Colleen Lawson is one of the plaintiffs in the Supreme Court McDonald case. Lawson joined the suit after burglars invaded her home. To which Mayor Daley replied, indirectly, today: “Common sense tells us we need fewer guns, not more guns. No one keeps statistics on the number of lives saved by a gun ban.” No one except “unofficial” Boston Globe blogger, “Mr. Crime and Punishment,” James Alan Fox. “According to my own calculations submitted to the court in the form of an amicus brief, there were as many as 1,000 fewer homicides in Chicago cumulatively over the course of the ban, a point that Justice Breyer noted in his dissent (p. 13).” Same thing as the GM bailout, right? Think how bad it would have been if we hadn’t done this unpopular thing! So, what’s next?

Lawson’s going to buy a gun.

Daley’s going to make it as difficult as possible for her to do so. He’ll announce a new round of legislative measures on Wednesday, at the next City Council meeting.

Fox is going to defend Massachusetts’ ridiculous gun laws (e.g. no magazine over 10 rounds but as many as you like) from the Court’s rulings.

And TTAG will be there, chronicling every halting step on the way to realizing the freedoms guaranteed by our forefathers.
