Between Friday and Sunday this weekend, Chicago witnessed what has become its almost expected tragic surge in gun violence, with at least 31 people shot and five fatalities. The violence underscores a simple fact: the city doesn’t have a gun problem, it has a crime problem, more pointedly, it has a gang crime problem. And this point is made even clearer since Chicago is in a state with some of the most stringent gun control laws anywhere.

ABC7 Chicago reports among the victims was a 5-year-old girl, Danae W. Razor, who was shot while sitting in a parked vehicle on the city’s West Side. This incident occurred around 3:32 a.m. on Sunday in the 200 block of Campbell Avenue. She was struck in the abdomen and later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

In another tragic event minutes earlier, a 28-year-old man was fatally shot on the sidewalk in the 1300 block of South Christiana Avenue. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, and no arrests have been made in either case.

Further adding to the grim tally, three people were critically injured in a shooting on Sunday night in the Roseland neighborhood. The victims, standing outside, were shot at by two assailants who fled the scene. They were taken to hospitals in critical condition.

These incidents reflect the broader trend of escalating violence in Chicago, where, despite comprehensive gun control laws, the murder rate remains alarmingly high. Illinois residents must obtain a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card, undergo extensive background checks, and comply with numerous other regulations, including bans on “assault weapons” and “high capacity” magazines, a 72-hour waiting period on gun purchases and red flag laws. Cook County, which encompasses Chicago, has additional restrictions on firearms.

Nevertheless, these measures have not curbed the violence. Breitbart reports over 180 people have been killed in Chicago since the beginning of 2024. This weekend’s violence brings the total number of shooting victims even higher, highlighting the ineffectiveness of the current gun control policies in preventing such tragedies.

Pro-gun advocates argue that the focus should shift from imposing more restrictions on law-abiding citizens to addressing the root causes of violence and ensuring that criminals face stringent consequences. The failure to prevent such violence despite extensive regulations suggests that alternative approaches are necessary to improve public safety and protect innocent lives in Chicago, chief among them incarcerating repeat offenders and enforcing laws already on the books…not creating more laws.

Look for our man, John Boch, TTAG’s chief contributor from the Land of Lincoln to expound more on this insanity later this week.

    • Oh & don’t have your 5 year old out in the hood at 3:30AM!!! There’s no fixing Chiraq. Do your best to not be there!

        • …. as of 9:30 last night, the official count is 9 dead, 30 injured according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Good thing it wasn’t a hot holiday weekend, that tends to bring out dem crazy foke.

  1. “tragic surge in gun violence”
Please don’t adopt the opponents’ sensationalist, slanted language.
The problem is violence by people with evil intent, regardless of their method or tool.
Violence by people defending themselves or other innocents, even if using a gun in that defense, is not a problem.

  2. Chicago has a zero Content of Character problem that circles back to demoCrap.

On the other hand Gun Control zealots should have never been allowed to hang Crime around the neck the Second Amendment. The criminal misuse of firearms, brick, bats, knives, vehicles or anything else has nothing whatsoever to do with Second Amendment anymore than hunting does.

It’s time to stop the knee jerk blame game that usually comes with misguided drama queens beating on the doors of two bit politicians to beg for Gun Control. As if taking the rights of citizens who were miles and even states away from the crime scene ever was an answer to what is the Criminal Misuse of anything and everything.

We’ve even seen praise for politically correct do-gooders who surrender their own firearms following the front-page, televised Criminal Misuse of a firearm. As if surrendering one’s firearm and jumping into the defenseless victim pool ever saved one unarmed Victim of Violence.

Good news is more and more people realize Self Defense is a Do It Yourself responsibiliy whereas Do It For Me hoping help will arrive gets them dead. As more people face the realities of violent crime the days of screaming marching drama queens begging for Gun Control will fall on deaf ears…

  3. Lease Chiraq to the Chinese for 99 years.
Sort of like a reverse of the Hong Kong UK-China deal.

  4. Keep voting for Democrats you Chicago fools. They got you where they want you. Begging for their help, but it never comes.

  5. Chicagoan’s deserve the chaos and tyranny they allow and being that they refuse to learn from their mistakes there is little chance that things will change.

  6. If President Obama had thousands of bastard sons, they’d look like the shooters.

  7. It appears the FOID cards need to be much larger and bullet proof.
The small non bullet proof ones do not seem to be working.
    .
I got sad when I read of the death of Danae W Razor. It ain’t right caught up in the crossfire like that.
    It’s not the gunz.

  8. They need to start burning tires — it’ll be just like Haiti.

Wall it off, set up cameras, seed it with marijuana and small arms, and then watch the usual suspects slaughter each other. Charge $20 a day for pay per view and help pay off the national debt. It would be worth it just for the lulz.

    • They would also have to take their shirts off and tie them around their head . . . for some reason. Hopefully they will skip the cannibalism, but not holding my breath.

  9. Open up more abortion clinics. Although i’m opposed to abortion I feel maybe exceptions need to be made.

    • Would you accept a compromise where it is legal from the 4th to 139th trimester?

  10. You missed the memo, offenders are now to be called “justice impacted individuals,” thanks to the black caucus in the legislature. If there were ever a bigger bunch of useless n*****s, I’m not aware of it.

  11. I avoid Illinois at all costs. The voters are to stupid to recognize they keep electing people that won’t let them protect themselves.
Crime will go down if armed citizens can fire back.
I’ll spend my $$ elsewhere thank you.
You get what you vote for Illinois.

    • Re being able to shoot back lowering crime, perhaps; but it would take time. I think, though, that the attitudes and approaches that respect the right to self-defense, also tend to be more serious about capturing, prosecuting, and locking up for a good long time, the criminals who commit most of the crime.

I’m not saying citizens able to defend themselves isn’t a good idea. But it is part of, rather than the whole of, a solution, especially when the situation is as bad as it is now.

  12. It’s so obvious what the issue is. The Left wants the violence, not just in Chicago but everywhere there is a problem race.
