The Seventh Conference of the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty will reconvene August 30 to September 3, 2021 in Geneva, Switzerland. The Obama administration was a fan of UN arms control and then-Secretary of State John Kerry signed the treaty. But then Obama’s gun control agenda floundered in his second term, when in 2014 Republicans gained 13 new U.S. House seats and regained a majority in the U.S. Senate. After being sent to the Senate, the UN treaty sat there with no expectation of it every being ratified.
President Trump was elected in 2016 and, speaking at the National Rifle Association meeting on April 26, 2019, he announced that he would “un-sign” the treaty. Trump kept this promise and requested the treaty be returned by the Senate. On July 18, 2019, Trump notified the UN that the U.S. had terminated its legal obligations under the treaty.
In short, for years the UN has been trying to formalize a global, civilian disarmament measure under the Arms Trade Treaty. The Obama administration saw it as a way of circumventing the legislative process and the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
The UN has trampled on and dictated national policy to other sovereign nations in environmental, criminal, and even global tax issues. So why not, the globalist elite asked themselves, try to enforce universal gun control, even in America?
The fact of the matter is that the struggle to preserve the right to civilian gun ownership worldwide, including in the U.S., is an ongoing effort, and elitist, globalist organizations are bent on disarming and controlling citizens so as to make their one-world-government dream a reality. As Gun Owners of America stated years ago, “It would be a mistake to believe that it spells the end of the effort to regulate small arms worldwide.”

Since the Democrats in 2021 are still pushing for ratification of the Treaty and gun control is very much on their agenda, Biden will likely re-sign this authoritarian UN Treaty in the next few months.
Unfortunately for those around the world, the feckless United Nations isn’t the only threat to gun rights. The European Union has already joined in the act, and all member nations are targeted — not just the pusillanimous Western nations and Scandinavia, but all of Europe where the EU holds sway.
Both the Czech Republic and Poland have expressed concerns and with good historic reasons.
In 1938, Czechoslovakia, mother country of the Czech Republic, was sacrificed and betrayed by its allies, Great Britain and France. Soon after British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, who was deceived by Hitler, returned to England with a piece of paper claiming that he had brought “peace in our time,” Czechoslovakia was invaded and the Nazis took all of Czechoslovakia.
The truth is that the Czechs could not be protected by the promises of her allies or their own military. Czechoslovakia became a giant armament factory and a fortress for the Nazis run by SS General Reinhard Heydrich, governor of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, until his assassination in 1942.
Poland followed suit in 1939, wiped off the map in the German Blitzkrieg. It was first invaded from the west by the German army, and then from the east by the Soviets. Thus, Poland was quickly subjugated by her collectivist, totalitarian neighbors. The Russian communists and Nazi Germany, which were allies and co-conspirators via the signed Molotov-Ribbentrop Treaty (aka., Non-Aggression Pact of 1939) succeeded in crushing and dismantling Poland and the Baltic nations.
After World War II, the masters were no longer the Nazis but the “liberating” Russian communists, who in the aftermath occupied by force much of central and all of eastern Europe using the Soviet army working in tandem with the KGB. The subjugated peoples were impoverished, disarmed, and enslaved.
With the exception of the Hungarian Uprising in 1956, which was quickly crushed, and the Prague Spring in 1968, which was also quickly suppressed, no other major upheaval threatening the Soviet empire until the 1980s with the rise of the Solidarity movement and the resurgence of the Roman Catholic church resistance to communism in Poland.
The wall finally fell in 1989. The Evil Empire, having rotted to the core, imploded from within and the final end of the USSR came in 1991.
So it is easy to comprehend the apprehension Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Poland, former trampled nations and Soviet satellites, feel when contemplating citizen disarmament by the mandates of an EU that is still dominated by socialistic Western Europe, Scandinavia, France, and Germany. And given their tragic histories, these nations are not easily going along with the EU’s authoritarian gun control dreams.
Indeed the EU, having passed the European Firearms Directive that went into effect on June 13, 2017, has imposed severe restrictions on the civilian gun ownership and made it very difficult for EU citizens to obtain a state-issued firearms license. Home and family protection and self-defense are no longer considered legitimate reasons for civilian gun ownership.
Two months after the directive was passed, the Czech Republic, that had promised to preserve its citizens’ right to gun ownership upon entering the EU, filed a legal challenge in the European Court of Justice to oppose the onerous gun control measures, demanding that the new gun controls be scrapped, postponed, or that certain countries be given exemptions from the measure.
In the summer of 2021, the Czech government moved to amend the country’s Constitution with a liberty Amendment that simply states, “the right to defend one’s life or the life of others, even with the use of weapons, is guaranteed.”
On July 21, 2021, the Czech Senate passed the measure with 54 of 74 Senators approving it. The lower House had already approved the Amendment on June 28, with 139 out of 148 legislators.
Since the amendment can be overruled by the EU, it will be difficult for the Czechs to exercise their new-found natural right to self- and collective defense. The idea is that the people can be trained in the use of arms and form a militia in collaboration with the country’s national armed forces, as an internal measure to combat terrorism and assist police in controlling crime.
I hope Poland, Hungary, and other awakening nations will follow suit, and that the U.S., which is seemingly going in the opposite direction under the Biden administration, doesn’t discard American rights and freedoms. The Czech example is a first step toward asserting the God-given natural right to armed self-defense and preservation of the freedom from authoritarian impingement of the globalist EU.

The U.N. treaty actually has no authority over U.S. citizens.
The main reason, in context with the second amendment, Trump dumped it was that its got a history of being used by disarmament and anti-gun groups as a platform for litigation and political influence to restrict, limit, or remove a countries ability to sell arms to allies and partners and import/export arms. This is also the underlying reason the NRA wanted Trump to back out of it, because this would have an adverse affect on the firearms industry.
If this were to happen and the gun grabbers were to successfully use its platform “capability” it would affect the firearms industry greatly eventually killing it. The firearms industry overall can’t survive without the ability to sell arms to allies and partners and import/export arms. Prices would go through the roof as supplies dropped, ~ 90% or more of the people who want to be gun owners would be priced out of the market and would not be able to afford even the most inexpensive of guns thus effectively their 2A rights would be abolished. Without sales to individuals, and with losing the ability to to sell arms to allies and partners and import/export arms the firearms industry would eventually cease to exist.
The firearms industry would go underground just like every other illegal business. It could never hope to meet demand but it will never disappear completely.
This is a huge load of hogwash. Most gun companies don’t have military sales. Heck, most don’t even export. Colt killed itself by concentrating on government sales and ignoring the civilian market. Many foreign arms companies have already started American subsidiaries, partially to get around stupid US “sporting purpose” limits on imports. Sig Sauer, Inc is different than Sig Sauer, GmbH. FN America is independent of FN Herstal, the biggest exporter in the EU. Glock, HK, Beretta, even Taurus have done it. Some companies, like Springfield Armory, rely on imports and would be harmed. Other importers would need to move to US manufacturing.
The ATT has lots of bad stuff in it. 2A-wise, it could require registration of the end user for guns and possibly limit imports. Policy-wise, it limit US support of deserving causes, like Ukrainians, Kurds, anti-ISIS Syrians, etc. Totalitarian regimes like that it prevents arming their oppressed populations. Treaties need 2/3 of the Senate for ratification, so there’s almost no chance of it passing any time soon. It’s good to “un-sign” in case the Dems ever get a Senate supermajority again.

Sorry, Jack, but you should research your claim more. Various local, state, and federal governments have signed agreements with the UN over the past 50 years. The first I heard of it, was the city of Cincinnati signing an agreement regarding the treatment of felons, and how a police department is supposed to operate. I’m not on top of this nonsense, but it has been going on for a long, long time.
IMO, no city, county, or state government should be making any agreement with the UN or any other foreign power. They are all subject to the United States government, not free to cut deals that undermine the constitution and the federal government.

Agreements with the U.N. in the past are not the same as this treaty with the U.N.
those are two different things.
It appears the US Constitution provides that ratified treaties become “the law of the land”. How that happens is problematic. Treaties can be “self-executing”, or require enabling legislation by the US Congress/Legislature. Just as Congress is not prohibited from passing ordinary legislation that violates the US Constitution, so it is that provisions of a treaty may have a similar result. (The ride is the punishment).
Thus, as recent presidential orders have illustrated, unconstitutional actions can have effect, unless and until courts declare Executive Actions/Orders to be null and void, such unconstitutional acts have full force of law of the land. Therefore, and whereas, E Pluribus Unum, ipse dixit and ex post facto, yes, a treaty can override the Second Amendment (at least temporarily).
Part of the process of resolving a problematic treaty provision is whether the courts determine the treaty provision is within the realm of judicial review.
I could not find (in a quick search) any binding SCOTUS decision explicitly expressing the principle that no treaty can alter the constitutional rights of persons or individual states. If such a decision exists, one would think the question itself would no longer be presented as an item of controversy.
Treaties cannot supersede constitutional rights as that would take a constitutional convention to alter enumerated negative rights, the treaty process isn’t even close to a constitutional convention.
Having said that, see Reid v. Covert 1956 and Geofroy v. Riggs, both of these supreme court rulings upheld that the enumerations of rights in the United States Constitution are the supreme law of the land and provisions in treaties take a back-seat.
To quote a portion of the Reid Court:
“… No agreement with a foreign nation can confer power on the Congress, or any other branch of government, which is free from the restraints of the Constitution. Article VI, the Supremacy clause of the Constitution declares, “This Constitution and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all the Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land…’
“There is nothing in this language which intimates that treaties and laws enacted pursuant to them do not have to comply with the provisions of the Constitution nor is there anything in the debates which accompanied the drafting and ratification which even suggest such a result…
“It would be manifestly contrary to the objectives of those who created the Constitution, as well as those who were responsible for the Bill of Rights – let alone alien to our entire constitutional history and tradition – to construe Article VI as permitting the United States to exercise power UNDER an international agreement, without observing constitutional prohibitions. (See: Elliot’s Debates 1836 ed. – pgs 500-519).
“In effect, such construction would permit amendment of that document in a manner not sanctioned by Article V. The prohibitions of the Constitution were designed to apply to all branches of the National Government and they cannot be nullified by the Executive or by the Executive and Senate combined.”
In effect ratified treaties do become “law of the law” because they impose on congress to create laws that will also comply with the treaty terms.
Yes they do become law of the land, however the provision requirements of a treaty cannot/do not supersede the constitution, even with laws crafted by the legislature to comply with said treaty provisions, and to be honest, a legislature could drag its feet in crafting legislation to comply with certain provisions in a treaty or down right refuse to craft legislation.
The treaty process in no way can be used as a constitutional amendment/repeal process or short circuit the convention process, period.

NSW Police Force
The NSW Police Force will launch Operation STAY AT HOME from 12.01am Monday 16 August 2021, in a significant boost to public health order enforcement efforts across the state.
The operation will utilise resources from all Police Districts and Police Area Commands under Metropolitan and Regional NSW Field Operations alongside officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, Police Transport Command, Dog and Mounted Unit, and a number of other specialist commands as required.
Significantly, 1400 officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command will be dedicated to both static and mobile COVID-19 compliance operations on the state’s roads.
A further 500 Australian Defence Force troops, in addition to the 300 already deployed, will assist with compliance checks and patrols.
Operation STAY AT HOME will be coordinated from the Police Operations Centre (POC) in Sydney under the command of Acting Assistant Commissioner Andrew Holland.
Minister for Police and Emergency Services David Elliott said the NSW Government was supporting the Commissioner’s call for assistance in the most practical way.
“The Commissioner asked for tighter Public Health Orders and the government agreed, the Commissioner asked for higher fines and the Government agreed, and the Commissioner asked for more ADF personnel and we have an additional 500 highly-trained ADF personnel arriving to assist,” Mr Elliott said.
“We’ve had to tighten the current public health orders because of the minority who exploited them. Enough is enough. If you do it, you will get fined.
“The only way out of this COVID-19 crisis is if we support each other and support the NSW Police-led compliance operation, Operation STAY AT HOME.”
Deputy Commissioner Mal Lanyon, Metropolitan Field Operations, said the operation would see more police on the ground across Greater Sydney, utilising some of the strongest powers ever given to police.
“The level of non-compliance by some members of the community is unacceptable and we will be doubling down with compliance and enforcement to make sure we get ahead of the Delta strain,” Deputy Commissioner Lanyon said.
“It only takes one person to do the wrong thing to facilitate considerable spread of the virus.
“We will be issuing $5000 fines to people and closing any businesses which continue to breach the health orders, and will not apologise for these increased enforcement efforts going forward.”
Deputy Commissioner Mick Willing, Regional NSW Field Operations, said preventing movement to regional areas from Sydney, and between regional areas, would be a key focus of the operation.
“There will be more roadblocks on main arterial roads and backroads from tomorrow, and these operations will continue to expand throughout this week in order to enforce the permit system announced by the NSW Government this morning,” Deputy Commissioner Willing said.
“There will be nowhere to hide if you are doing the wrong thing. If you travel anywhere beyond your LGA at the moment, you are putting everyone else in NSW at considerable risk.
“From the start, this has been about reducing movement across the state and protecting the health and safety of everyone, and this operation significantly strengthens those efforts.”

In 1996, all semi auto long guns were banned and a mandatory buy back was instituted. All other firearms must be registered with the government and a license is required to own a firearm. Proper reason to own a firearm must be shown and it cannot be self defense. Is that about right?

In addition; The act of requiring a permit for purchase or carry is in effect a “defacto” confiscation or ban (depending on how the law is written) because it “legally” forces the person to cede “legal” control over their own property (the firearm) to government authority thus in effect the government has (defacto) “seized” the firearm. Every person with a permit for purchase or carry, in a non-constitutional carry state, has had their firearm “defacto” confiscated or banned.
there are even more examples of confiscation or bans, for example, mandatory, “forced surrender”, or “pressured” (forced surrender and pressure are already being used) gun and magazine buyback are another form of confiscation.
“forced surrender” buy back: A form of judicial imposed penalty for gun involved but not convictable for such charges where the person is forced to surrender their firearm to avoid prosecution and in exchange the “government” (city, county, state, sometimes federal) pays the person some amount for the firearm.
“pressured” buy back: A local or state or federal government enacts programs focused on areas and launch disinformation/information programs designed to make people feel obligated to surrender their firearms. (this one is kind of new, not used too much yet but its coming)
the point is, gun confiscation and bans are around us every day. Our country history is rife with gun confiscation and bans.
There are over 15000 registered firearms in my postcode area alone and Sydney is a large city. I would be surprised if the number was less than 200,000 for the Sydney basin.
What happened in the past is the past. They tried to make the process difficult but we bounced back with more people owning more guns than before.
But there are no current bans and confiscations going on. The state and federal governments have more pressing priorities.
