Three of Thompson Center’s most popular rifles — the ICON, VENTURE and modular DIMENSION guns — may have a problem with their safeties. In the right circumstances, closing the bolt could cause it to disengage. Yikes. Here’s their press release:
Thompson/Center Arms™ has identified a condition that may cause the safety lever on certain ICON®, VENTURE™ and DIMENSION® rifles to bind, preventing the safety from becoming fully engaged. In this situation, closing the bolt may move the safety to the fire position. The rifle will not fire unless the trigger is pulled. However, out of an abundance of caution, we are taking this action to recall the rifles so that the firearm can be inspected by our technicians to ensure that the safety lever functions as designed . . .
This recall applies to all ICON, VENTURE and DIMENSION rifles manufactured by Thompson/Center Arms prior to June 13, 2013.
STOP USING YOUR RIFLE AND RETURN IT TO THOMPSON/CENTER AT ONCE.
Because the safety of our customers is our utmost concern, we ask that you stop using your rifle until we have an opportunity to inspect the safety lever to ensure its proper function.
To facilitate the inspection and repair, if necessary, of your rifle safety lever, please contact Thompson/Center’s customer service department to receive instructions and a pre-paid shipping label for the return of your rifle to Thompson/Center. Thompson/Center will repair the rifle at no cost to you, and return it to you as quickly and efficiently as possible.

At least they had the balls to call it a recall and not an “upgrade” like glock did back in the day.
Nice to know that there are still companies that will admit, “hey we have a problem with a product, but we will fix it”.
Good for them for acknowledging that there is a potential problem.
Knowing they’ll be big boys and girls about taking responsibility for their products makes me more likely to buy from them, not less like many companies seem to assume we will all do if they issue a recall.
On the website they note that they will put a punch dot on the back of the safety lever on every rifle they recieve in order to verify that the rifle has been inspected and repaired if necessary. Very nice!
They should recall it for that stock. Yuck. Very Jezail-esque…
I’ve been looking into buying a new Venture or Icon because they make a great product. I’ll give them credit for being brave enough to do the right thing and recall the rifles, and I’m still going to buy one when they fix they problem.
That’s what I call taking the high road.
I wonder if they cold make the safety on my Mosin any easier on the thumb…?
That’s not actually a safety, it’s an indicator.
After a battle the commanders would inspect the soldiers. If your thumb was chewed to shit you clearly had not been killing or attempting to kill Nazis for Mother Russia for a part of your day on the battlefield and you were shot as an example to others.

Any 1903A3 (and presumably 1903) has a similar problem. I forget now the exact sequence, and too busy to go to the safe to refresh my memory, but something about messing with the safety while the bolt is back. Ride the bolt forward, and as you lock the bolt, the rifle fires. Finger clearly OFF the trigger.
I have a Remington Model 7 that has this same issue,I discovered it while cleaning the gun ,just lucky it did’nt happen while hunting.When I worked the bolt and put the safety onto the fire position the firing pin released.Ifound out through several blog sites that this problem has accurredbefore and has never been addressed by REMINGTON.They have simply ignored the problem and continued to sell rifles with the same safeties,this includes all of the model 700’s.I will never buy another Remington firearm.Iguess that recalling all 700 stile safeties would bankrupt them.At least TC is doing the right thing to assure a safe firearm!!
